Labels, Marketing, Nutrition knowledge
So I went grocery shopping today and you know what I found out? Raw white potatoes are gluten-free! Who knew? Seriously though, I can see putting the gluten-free label on things like sauces or soups, etc, but I think that anyone that knows they should be avoiding gluten would know that fresh vegetables are safe. I've also…

Carbs - Diabetics - Surprise
I'm not exactly sure I have a point to this post, but just wanted to express surprise. I have a diabetic relative, and I will admit to not knowing much about the disease. We went out to lunch last week. I am currently trying to stay lower carb (and gluten free) , so I ordered a bunless burger. She's diabetic but she…

Shoulder- ouch!
So my shoulder has been bothering me and I took two weeks off from kettlebell. It felt better today so I gave my workout a try. Lower weights and felt fine during, but an hour later I can barely blow dry my hair without crying in pain! Its summer and I need to workout. Is it silly to only work with one arm?

Opinion on MFP Saturated Fat setting
So, first I want to be totally honest and admit that if you look at my diary you may see the occasional hot dogs, ice cream and my dark chocolate fix, things like that. That's my disclaimer before I ask my question! I manually set my daily calories to 1540, and macros to 25C/25P/50F. MFP gives me a goal of 17g of…

New to the group and exploring!
Hello there! I've recently become interested in keto. I've been paleo/a little primal since last August and my health has improved and I've lost a few pounds. I do strength training and sprints and am looking for a plan to help shed a little bit more fat. I would consider myself in maintenance with the exception of wanting…

Lipids! Woot - NSV!!
I know there was a thread out there, but I couldn't find it. Unfortunately I don't know what my numbers were before Paleo/Primal, but I am so excited about my recent report: HDL - 137 - doctor said this was the highest he's ever seen LDL - 129 - at the high end, but well offset by the HDL Total - 276 - high but again the…

Gelatin anyone?
I know bone broth is the best way to get gelatin/collagen and mend your digestive tract. BUT, I've been reading about using gelatin as a supplement and I wanted to try it. How? Do any of you use it, and how do you do it? I don't drink smoothies, so that's out for me. I saw something online about mixing it into your coffee,…

Muscle Cramps/new diet
I put this on the primal tips group and no one has replied. Thought I'd try here too! Thanks. So, in my past life, I pretty much ate a banana everyday and white potatoes a few times a week. I've adopted primal about 6 weeks ago, and am now experiencing feet and calf spasms almost everyday. I'm guessing lack of potassium…

Paleo substitutions
Hi all! So I'm almost through my second week of paleo and haven't found it to be difficult yet. I'm loving the food! I was afraid I would have fewer choices, but if I just give a little thought to my meal plans, it's really interesting. I found I was missing bread a little bit, so I tried a recipe using ground flax. Very…

Fiber - yes or no?
http://www.marksdailyapple.com/dietary-fiber-is-bad-for-sex-thats-the-only-claim-about-it-that-isnt-a-myth/#axzz2dvXHvim3 Did anyone else read this article on Mark's Daily Apple? I've been stressing so much about not getting enough fiber from my Paleo diet, and then I read this. Just looking for other's thoughts on the…

New and want to say hello
I've been on MFP for a few years now, mostly for maintenance, inspiration and to get workout/food ideas. I only really had a few pounds I wanted to get rid off, but I like logging and monitoring and reading the boards. In general, I'm in good health and have pretty good eating and fitness habits. I've been suffering from…

Time for something new
Hi there. I've been on MFP for awhile, have gotten great advice and motivation from my FL and from reading the boards. I'm okay with the number on the scale these days, but my goal is to reduce my BF%. It's time to shake some things up! I started looking into South Beach, not as a diet, but as a lifestyle. I don't have any…

Tennis Elbow and barbell row
I've been suffering with tennis elbow for about a month...sometimes it seems better and then it gets worse again. I started 5X5 last week, and love it and want to keep going. I notice however that the barbell row really aggravates the elbow. Does anyone know of another pull exercise I could try? I was thinking next time…

Best All-Around Strength Training?
This is a serious question. My intent is not to offend anyone based on the choices they make personally. I am not an expert on this topic, just sharing some perceptions and asking for thoughtful comments and any research/back-up that might be available. I am new to strength training - since about Feb/March. I started at a…

Bodybuilding newbie at 47
I'm looking for some insight/advice. I will be 48 this year and have decided that I need to add weights to my routine. I've always been pretty active cardio-wise, but have never seriously tried to lift. I read some stuff on bodybuilding.com, and I fell into the typical female stereotype - cardio, cardio, cardio, then maybe…

Not so new, but starting again
I've been an on-again off-again member. I don't have a lot of weight to lose - I'd love to lose 20, but 10-15 will make me happy. I am a 46 yo married woman - 2 grown children. I became a runner at age 37, but started slacking off a bit the last year or so, and about 10 pounds snuck up on me. In Feb. I was diagnosed with a…
