  • If you're interested in keto, you should try it. I say weight management and health is a science experiment, we all respond a bit differently (although the concepts are the same). If you want advice other than "don't do it", try posting on a keto board. I'm not frowning on any advice given, but if you're going to give it a…
  • I was 46 and was looking for some relief from menopause issues. Not a single risk factor other than my age. 6 months later I had a DVT - blood clot- in my leg. Blood clots are a potential side effect but I never thought it could happen to me and didn't really understand what it could mean. Not to be overly dramatic, but I…
  • I think it's a great idea to teach kids about food value and choices. I guess I'd just be careful to not think of it as a reward to go to the snack cupboard. Nutrition is something everyone should learn at an early age!
  • I have one of the earliest ones - the Ultra - and I've never had a problem with it and I love it. It's been about 5 years and going strong. It's the clip on kind which I prefer over the wristband. (I like real jewelry). It motivates me and gives me the data I want. You should go for it!
  • I took some time off and have recently returned. (100 days). I'm finding this group to be much quieter than it was. Could be paleo is becoming more accepted out in the forums? I haven't ventured back out there yet!
  • Welcome back! Paleo makes me feel great too, so why is it so darn easy to slide back into old habits? I'm clawing my way back too! I haven't been horrible, but I know I can do and feel better! :)
  • I second the recommendations for Sarah Lurie or Lauren Brooks dvds. I have both and like them. I've been doing kb for about 4 years now and still love it. I started my strength training adventure with dumbbells and barbells, but feel like kettlebells give me a solid core and "functional" overall strength if that makes…
  • Hello there! I'm Kim and I turned 51 last month. I'm pretty much where I need to be - weight and activity wise - but have a habit of falling off the wagon! I'm looking forward to connecting with people in my decade, since I believe we do have some unique challenges at this time of life.
  • The coating you mentioned made me think immediately of yeast. I wouldn't think you'd get that on low carb though.

  • Congrats jrosto!! what a great story and I'm so glad that you are healthy! Ladynasdaq - I recommend sites such as Mark's Daily Apple and Nerdfitness. Plenty of info to get started. I've read books by Mark Sisson and Robb Wolfe, and other books whose authors I can't remember: It Starts with Food, Death by Food Pyramid,…
  • I can't exactly vouch for accuracy, but I've been at maintenance for over a year and I have my calories set at what my Fitbit tells me is my average burn. I agree with other posters - if it motivates you to move more and you're hitting goals you wouldn't have hit otherwise then I think it's a good tool. Good luck.
  • I still like to log my workouts, but I trick it a little bit. I enter only 1 calorie burned and enter a time that I know I was sedentary. That way nothing is getting double-logged and I can track my actual workouts that are in addition to just getting steps. Hope that makes sense.
  • I routinely take breaks from tracking. If I feel I'm off track or not getting results it helps me with awareness. I sort of miss it when I don't though!!
  • My husband isn't interested in eating like me. I just make modifications. I'll have the meat and veg and skip the white stuff(rice, potatoes, etc). I'll put marinara sauce over cauliflower or zoodles. Pulled pork goes over a sweet potato instead of a bun. Doesn't take much extra work or money. You got this!
  • welcome! this is an amazing group right here. plenty of advice and support.
  • Hi there! My name is Kim and I'm from Maine. I started my "reset" yesterday and found this group today. I started paleo (and drifted to primal - cheese, nuff said) in Aug. 2013 to see if I could fix my digestive issues. Doc ran out of tests and just suggested trying gluten free, so why not go paleo, right? Amazing results…

  • I'm a little late to the party...today is day 2 for me. Something about Monday makes it a better start day for me! I didn't post anything for day one, but I did just fine. Got my workout done this morning, and so far eating very well....eggs/spinach/garlic/salsa scrambled in coconut oil with a side of strawberries for…

  • I'm in...will check out the Primal Blueprint too. I've done Whole 30 before, so maybe I need something different. I don't know what was different about the holidays this year. Last year I was pretty careful. This year it's been about ALL the chocolate, cookies, etc. Even though I feel awful I can't seem to stop!
  • Welcome! This way of eating has really gotten me to pay attention to what I put in my mouth and how it makes me feel. You can friend me if you want, but I have to warn you that I'm not really that active here. I just wanted to tell you that you don't have to eat breakfast if you're not hungry or interested in it. Learn to…
  • I would counter that food not generally labled as "clean" - thinking fast food, highly processed boxed and canned food - make some people an awful lot more money than the clean camp. Food chains and medical bills come to mind.... Just saying. OP - the general forums are a great place for bashing labels. To each their own.…
  • Ok, I'll bite. I haven't been in the general forums lately! :) I see it as pretty much the same thing. Nothing processed. Paleo is very "clean" eating. As for success...I didn't really have weight to lose, but 12 pounds lost and they've been lost for over a year...relief from digestive issues, flat tummy, more energy. And…
  • Not sure how to say this, but how's your poop? :o If you are regular and comfortable, I'm not sure you need to worry about the fiber. I was a bit worried too, but have since given up!
  • Agree. The body does what the mind tells it to - something like that. Planning is always key, so just pick a day to sit down with recipes and plan the menu out...do your prep so you don't just grab whatever's easy. Occasional slips/treats shouldn't bring you down - just keep focused. This is a great group. Good luck!
  • Dark Chocolate and a glass of red wine. I've tried a few pudding recipes - mashed avocado, cocoa powder and maple syrup, and one made with cocoa powder and chia seeds. I see a theme here for me - it's all about chocolate!! Another favorite though is sliced apple microwaved with butter and sprinkled with cinnamon. Yum!
  • Welcome!! I will admit that weight has not been an issue for me, so I won't say I can understand your situation. I've been lead to keto, paleo/primal, grain free as a way to improve my overall health. It has worked very well for me. That said, I want you to know that everyone of us, dealing with weight issues or not, will…
  • Good job!! I've only attempted it once and my form was so bad I gave up!!
