  • Here are some "real scientific studies" in peer reviewed journals about sodas and/or artificial sweeteners: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24700203 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3772345/ http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0278691511000639 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3317920/…
  • I love my One. It has been a real trooper. I've misplaced it a couple of times and even accidentally put it through the washer and dryer, and it is still going (thank goodness). I love the new smartphone app for it as well. David Sedaris wrote a cute New Yorker essay about his Fitbit obsession and how he has channeled it.…

  • Well, I don't know why *you* are losing weight, but in my case, the Skinny Fairy is visiting me every night and taking away the pounds by sprinkling his chocolate flavored protein power fairy dust. Calories in/calories out is a myth.
  • Amazon instant video has several available for free streaming to Prime members.
  • Toaster Strudel is too hoity-toity. It's fudge or cinnamon brown sugar Pop Tarts for me.
  • Me too!! Starting tomorrow. It is short enough that I think I can work it in before I get ready for work in the mornings during the week.
  • That is fantastic!! Congrats!!!
  • "Get Off Your *kitten*" I have "ELAGOYA" taped to my monitor at work (Eat Less and Get Off Your *kitten*) to remind me to get steps in every hour.
  • I have a fitbit one and a Polar FT7 HRM. I use the HRM when I do weight lifting and Pilates ("stand in place" exercises), and the fitbit for my day in general. I just got the fitbit, so I'm still getting used to it, but so far so good.
  • ^^ this and 1pound weights.
  • The only food nazi that really bothers me is my mother, and she lives 1000 miles away and doesn't even know I'm trying to lose weight. LOL My diary is open. But the food I eat works for me-- I keep an excel spreadsheet with a running total of my macros and I'm pretty darned close long-term to what they are "supposed" to be.
  • Don't give up!! You are doing so *awesome*!! Go to the grocery store and pick up 2 4# bags of sugar and *feel* and *see* how much you've lost!! You and I started MFP on the same day. In my first 3 weeks I lost 12#, then *nothing* for the whole month of February. (actually my weight was fluctuating *up* about 4#-- yikes!!)…
  • Mine is set at 40c/35f/25p, and I my 60 day average is pretty darned close @ 43/34/23 if you want to look. I also really only worry about calories, and my macros just seem to naturally fall that way. What I do works for me. Warning-- I eat out for dinner a lot, so my sodium is usually over, but I also tend to drink a lot…
  • OMG, I thought I was the only person that had this problem. :blushing:
  • This is good to know. I started this journey in earnest in January, and at the same time, the night sweats and skipping TOMs started. I knew this was going to be harder than it was when I was younger, but hopefully I'm tougher now.
  • Try the lingerie dept @ Nordstrom's in Southpoint Mall. Or if you can get out to Triangle Towne Center in Raleigh, try Saks Fifth Avenue.
  • Starbuck's. But It's gone from several times per week to once a week or longer. It's a treat now that I plan for and relish, instead of a mindless, automatic stop on the way to work. I was going to say that I haven't given up anything, but I actually forgot I haven't had a diet soda (or any soda) since the first of the…
  • As others have said, just be patient, but boy, is *that* easier said than done!! I lost 12 pounds in January, and *nothing* in February, even though I added more exercise to my weekly regime. However, at the end of January I started using a tape measure, and I lost 10 inches by the end of February. If I had not been taking…
  • ^^^this.LOL I use 1 or 2% milk in my coffee. Right now I am trying to wean off the splenda I put in it, but if I can't do without the sweetness, then I will factor table sugar into my calories.
  • I wouldn't at this point for myself. I have considered it in the past and hopefully won't have to consider it if all goes well with my effort this time around. My sister had Roux-en-y and has since started having terrible, debilitating low blood sugar problems, which they are finding is a long term side effect that is…

  • I have been doing Pilates for 2 months, and I *love* it. It has really helped my core strength, posture, balance and weight loss. I am 49 and morbidly obese. I take it at a college campus rec center, and my instructor is great-- she always makes sure she gives me modifications that will work for me and she is very…

  • I gave up soda for water in January. The first couple of weeks were hard, and yes I felt bloated -- well not bloated, exactly, but *full* for a few days, but my body adjusted, and I also stopped retaining fluid that had been plaguing me for *years*. Other than 2 cups of coffee a day, I drink only water now-- about a gallon…
  • I like this thought. OP-- can you chew gum at work? It's hard to eat stuff with gum in your mouth.
  • The POT Tart cleanse is something entirely different, and can actually cause weight gain. Be careful not to get them confused. :smokin:
  • OK, I swore I wouldn't name drop, but actually he *is* my husband's cousin's neighbor's dog-walker's dentist's brother-in-law, and following his advice has also transformed my poop into Skittles.
  • What mardis gras attire? That's the after-effect of the pop tart cleanse with the koolaid enema.
