Like these lovely ladies, I would be hesitant about setting a weight number goal. I've done that several times in the past, and I'm usually disappointed. It also tends to make me too reliant on what the scale says, and when it doesn't go down every day/week/etc. I get frustrated and discouraged. In addition to the awesome…

1 Justin's Peanut Butter Squeeze pack 1 TBSP stevia-flavored chocolate chips (no sugar) 1 TBSP Kerrygold Irish Butter 2 TBSP stevia-flavored homemade whipped cream I like making a single serving at a time. So while making dinner, I'll melt the peanut butter and butter in a bowl then add the chocolate chips and put the bowl…

Hey ladies -- Sorry I haven't been more active here! I am probably not creative enough to make this a super active group -- but as long as that works for y'all it works for me! We just sent out our save the dates! Super exciting. I have been having a stressful few weeks (my boss gave his two weeks notice and I'm next in…

I buy packaged Applegate Sunday Bacon from Whole Foods. It says on the label (if I'm remembering correctly, I think 2 slices = 60 calories). I usually make my bacon in a skillet and then cook my eggs in the bacon grease.

Dana Carpenter's "Fat Fast Cookbook" will completely walk you through a fat fast. I did a fat fast a few months ago and loved it! I think she recommends 1,000 calories and 85% fat + 10% protein + 5% carbs, give or take, but basically LOTS of fat. I usually stall after week 3 or 4 for a few weeks. I agree with mixing things…

cmp04d, welcome! It sounds like you've already come a long way -- I've also fallen off the past ~4 months, but I think breaks are good sometimes. That also gives you a chance to maintain for a while and maintenance is just as important as losing, IMO. I was at a destination wedding in Belaire Beach (near Clearwater) in…

Thanks for joining, RunningRichelle! I'll look forward to how things go with the powerlifting. It sounds like you know what you're doing, so you probably don't have to follow a designated program. I am totally right there with you in terms of arms. I think I'd like to lose another ~10 lbs. but mostly I want to tone! I had…

We love our families, but we loathe family get-togethers. Everyone on both sides has accepted the fact that it's really important to us to live a low-stress, low-drama life. Some Thanksgivings we join one of our families for dinner -- but many years we just say we're wanting something low-key and spending it by ourselves.…

Nothing fancy, but I have avocado often as a side just sprinkled with sea salt or lately truffle salt.

Halloween is no sweat. I have a big bowl of Reeses Peanut Butter cups that have been in my cupboard for over a week now -- I haven't been tempted at all. I prefer the keto PB fudge I've been making lately anyway! :) Here's my game plan for the next two months: *I'm busting it full-on intense keto between now and…

Thanks for sharing! Great to see the tide is turning, and cool to be an early adopter (not as early as Gary Taubes and the like, but still...)

A few thoughts to share: 1) Don't expect to lose every single day. You may even have a week here and there where you don't lose. It's good to track other things, like inches/how your clothes fit/etc., but just remember that everyone loses in a different way and it takes time for the body to change. STAY THE COURSE. For me,…

Hi all, I originally posted this back in February. I've been in and out of ketosis all year and I've learned a lot about this lifestyle. I'm happy to outline what's worked for me, but first, I want to say that I am still on my journey and by no means a keto expert (there are some true experts in the keto forum for anyone…

I like to just put some shredded cheese on a plate and then top it with pepperoni slices and microwave for about 45 seconds. I guess that's the lazy woman's keto pizza recipe. :)

I'm 5'5 and between 150-155 lbs. I did a 3-day fat fast and decided to keep my calories at 1200 calories because I felt 1000 was just too low for me. I didn't exercise at all. I lost a few pounds and a few inches, and got into ketosis and felt good. I made the decision to customize it for myself and what I thought would…

To make keto successful at work, preparation is the key. I spend a few hours on Sunday doing food prep -- last week I made a big batch of boursin-stuffed mushrooms and had a few each afternoon as a snack. This week, I made a big batch of deviled eggs and will have 2 each afternoon as a snack. For lunch, I almost always…

#1 Personally, I plan to eat keto/low carb as my lifestyle for the rest of my life. I get my carbs from green vegetables, nuts (peanut butter) and chocolate, mainly. I'm healthiest eating this way and I want to eat healthy for life, so that's my plan. #2 Just brush often. #3 I think keto sticks can be helpful when you are…

My advice: Do curl up with some bacon and cry! I have a lot of the same struggles. I've been doing low carb/keto with scheduled breaks about every 4-6 weeks throughout this year. The breaks are usually tied to social events like weddings and vacations, but also I feel like I do best when I go hard core keto for 3-4…

My fiance and I are spending this Thanksgiving in Aspen -- just the two of us (we try to avoid big family gatherings and at least limit them to just one holiday a year). We'll be doing some fine dining and I want to enjoy every bite and not limit my choices to keto-friendly options. My plan is to go strong keto for three…

Everyone has different preferences, but my fat bomb is so good and always hits the spot. I actually like it more than real cookies now. I had an actual cookie the other day and half way through thought, "This just doesn't taste the same..." Yesterday I had my fat bomb for dessert and this morning I was down 2 lbs. It's…

I just peeked at your diary and have two thoughts to share: 1) Cheese -- personally, I never lose if I have cheese every day, and on days I do have it I need to limit it to 1 ounce or roughly 1 carb/70ish calories. 2) Protein -- looking at your macro numbers from the past several days, you've actually been doing high…

I actually think unprocessed foods lend themselves well to salt! I purchase really high-quality salts (sea salts from Whole Foods as well as truffle salts from fine culinary stores). I sprinkle tons on all my veggies, eggs, and meats throughout the day. Recently I started having baked pecans in melted butter with tons of…

I'd go to Whole Foods or another decent grocery store and just read through the labels of all of their BBQ sauces. I found one that had just 1 carb per TBSP and the ingredients were all natural, no sugar or artificial weirdness.

Also make sure you're getting lots of salt! I get a really high quality sea salt from Whole Foods. Put it on everything and if you have headache, you might want to try taking a salt shooter (I just disolve a few teaspoons in an ounce of water). Salt is important because during ketosis your body drops a lot of sodium and…

I attempted this a few months ago and it unfortunately resulted in me overeating and falling off the keto wagon big time. Now that I'm 100% back on track with keto (today is probably about day 13), I am again wanting to test this out. I want keto to work for me as a long-term lifestyle, and I just know that every once in a…

If you haven't already, I recommended purchasing Dana Carpenter's "Fat Fast Cookbook." It is fully of fantastic recipes. Two of my favorites are bacon-wrapped jalopenos stuffed with cream cheese and pepperoni chips (nuked in the microwave for 35 seconds) dipped in whipped cream cheese.

I have definitely learned that I have to keep protein in check. I do this by following the tactic Golightly17 recommended -- i.e., having fat with every meal -- and I gave up having some kind of meat throughout the day. I usually do a bulletproof coffee for breakfast (which is almost all fat), then I'll have just a little…

I recently bought Dana Carpenter's "Fat Fast Cookbook." Even though the book is about a fat fast, you could make any of the recipes for every day keto. Best $6 I ever spent. http://www.amazon.com/Fat-Fast-Cookbook-Recipes-ebook/dp/B00BGGBE20/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1378329344&sr=1-2&keywords=dana+carpender+cookbooks

I'll second everything above. It is great -- it makes all the difference in my energy level for the day, as well as mental clarity. That said, definitely ease into it to get a feel for what amount your body can handle. Personally, I'm best at .5 - 1 TBSP. In the past I've gone up to 2 or even 3 TBSP, but I've had some…

I am to eat back about 20% of my exercise-earned calories. I heard that recommended on a podcast I listen to. It said it's dangerous to not eat back any, because then you're likely putting yourself into starvation mode -- but at the same time, you want a deficit so you don't want to eat them all back. So as a rule of…
