  • I'm 68, and have tried Zumba -- the "Gold" (polite word for geezer) version -- a few times. I noticed a class close to me, but it was just plain old Zumba. Was a little nervous about it, but went last night and sailed through it. I was sweaty, and it was a good workout, but not overly tough. I kept up just fine. In fact, I…
  • Got through yesterday fine with the sweets by portioning out the ones I was going to have and then sticking to that. Bigger containers are hidden so I don't see them every time I open the fridge. I swear, this sweet obsession is becoming a bigger problem than wine. @NovusDies - so interesting, your post on habits. I've…
  • Oh yes, exactly those. Dark chocolate PB cups from TJ's. They are perfection and a great, reasonably low cal blast of something sweet after dinner. Here's an "amusing" story (if you're not me, that is). One of the clerks there told me about a year ago that I could slow the consumption rate down if I froze them, which I…
  • @JuliBiGoolee - I'm with you on the getting control over cookies front. I like to bake too. I bake cookies for my son and teenage grandsons and usually keep one or two for my husband and myself. I cannot believe I've finally gotten a grip on that. I would've eaten dozens a couple of years ago . . .
  • @SanDiegofitmom - we tried Narcos, we really did. Just couldn't do it, for the same reasons you cite.
  • OMG, @JenT304, you and I are having the same problem. Today I'm trying to increase protein bc I'm feeling hungry - a lot. Just had some Fage, which has a ton of protein, and some cashews. Hope that does the job for awhile. I put my little sweets (couple of chocolate kisses, few gummies and my beloved TJ mini peanut butter…
  • @kalahmarii - Love this. I was so excited when I could actually put my laptop on my lap, LOL.
  • One of the things that makes your story so amazing and special is that you didn't give up after regaining the weight, and I cannot imagine how awful and sad you must've felt. You are such an inspiration. Thanks for sharing all of that.
  • @Orphia - so with you on MORE food. It's one of the (many) rewards of moderating or being AF.
  • @JulieAL1969 - believe me, I feel your pain - I grew up Lakewood, OH, in your neck of the woods. Winter gets old for sure.
  • @dressagerider1020 - boy, I hear ya. You must live near me - I'm in FL. And I'm starting to sweat on my morning walks. V sorry all the rest of you who live in places that are still cold and snowy!
  • Gawd, @SanDiegofitmom - PLEASE let me know if you ever find an AF wine that you can stand. I know you're a wine lover, too, so would trust your opinion! Man, the couple I've tried are terrible - like pour down the sink terrible.
  • @WinoGelato - Appreciate your thoughtful post, as always. You are such an important member of our group, and I always get something out of whatever you say. I agree, a routine feels so good. After blowing it Friday night and having a wasted Saturday I'm back to being the person I like. Prepping food, getting exercise - the…
  • @Orphia - such a great story. Thanks for sharing! I loved this: I want to be able to have a couple of bubblies to celebrate a special occasion, then go back to being alcohol-free till I have another special reason to celebrate. I'm in the same camp (moderation Fri-Sun), although I must say my husband and I were out on our…
  • Planning a cruise in mid May and trying to figure out what to wear. Tried on a bathing suit I haven't fit into in two years and it fit perfectly. Went shopping for beach coverups today and started with XL - nope. L - nope. M - yep. OMG, what?! The last time we went on a cruise, about 18 months ago, I was having a hard time…
  • @donimfp - I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your job. I'm not trying to sugarcoat anything here, and I'm sure you're bummed and probably in a bit of a panic, BUT . . . I can't tell you how many people I know who've been through this who come out the other end in a better situation: better pay, more fulfilling work,…
  • @JulieAL1969 - always appreciate these videos and, believe me, am passing them on to my son, his girlfriend and other people I know who are trying to moderate or become AF. BTW, congrats on your amazing victory the other night when you had only one drink. Way to go and work that moderation muscle. You rock!
  • @kpk54 - yes, love that quote and all the other inspirational quotes/videos etc. here. SO helpful. I'm finding support pops up in the most interesting places. I was talking to a tech guy at my company who I haven't talked to in about a year, and we got to talked about some health challenges he's had. He's trying to follow…
  • I make hard boiled eggs every week and have one probably every other day. I also like those Weight Watchers or Aldi cheese sticks that are 50 calories each. I love cashews, almonds and peanut butter, although you've got to be careful about quantities.
  • Wow, @crazykatlady820, what a huge inspiration you are. Talk about changing your life. Your strength is amazing. I wish I could click "Inspiring" about 100 times!
  • Got through our Easter brunch just fine without any alcohol. We had a ton of alternatives: club soda, orange juice, grapefruit juice, coffee, tea. Folks made spritzer things with the club soda and juices. All of us have cut back or stopped drinking and laughed about all the jelly beans we were eating. We are becoming…
  • BTW, @JulieAL1969, many, many congrats on saving all that money. You guys should seriously put that money in a special fun/vacation account and do something nice for you. What a great reward for all your hard work!
  • @JulieAL1969 Thanks for asking about my son. Here's the update: His girlfriend stopped drinking the day they broke up. Two weeks went by and they started talking again and are now back together and both are AF. I am surprised, and so happy for both of them because they're pretty perfect for each other. She hasn't had…
  • Just had a massage for the first time since Dry January and I must say that feeling beats wine any day! Too bad I can't do it every single night, LOL. But highly recommended. I did feel like with all the money I was saving not buying booze I could totally justify spending the money on something that was actually good for…
  • @snoo61 - oh you're going to love it. I'm always kidding around about how I'm trying to keep my Fitbit happy. I've been known to walk circles around the house just to get to a certain step count before bed. One thing I'd recommend is taking some time with the manual and really finding out about everything it can do. I've…
  • My son, his girlfriend, her mother and I went out to dinner last night. My son and GF have stopped drinking (she for a month, he for two weeks), I don't drink during Mon-Thurs and her mother doesn't drink much at all. So we all had water and some great food and the check was . . . actually less than half of what if usually…
  • @JulieAL1969 - Well done! Congrats! So impressed by your strength and resolve.
  • @Jent304 - wow, I love this: “Everyone must choose one of two pains: The pain of discipline or the pain of regret.” Thanks for sharing. Sorry you're struggling. You've done it before, I know you can do it again. Have you by any chance checked out alcoholmastery.com? Others here have recommended it, but I just started…
  • @MissMay - thanks so much for sharing those drink ideas! A lot of those would be excellent for the AF Easter brunch we're planning. In my continuing quest to get a grip on the sugar demons, I cut up fruit and froze it. I'm TRYING to grab something like a banana slice or a frozen grape when I want something sweet. It…
  • I cannot imagine working in retail and having to bite my tongue when people make personal remarks like that. I wouldn’t last long in that job, LOL!
