  • There is no such thing as toning. If you want your arms to be firmer, you are going to need muscle to fill out the are underneath the skin. Best way to do that is to lift heavy weights. It's almost biologically impossible for you to get too bulky, as you're a female. You simply don't have enough testosterone in your body…
  • I actually don't think it's that hard. It just takes some time. I also switched my push ups to my knees in the 60s somewhere just to keep myself moving. I could have kept doing them normal but it would have really slowed me down, so it wasn't worth it.
  • If memory serves I treated the opening like Grace (which it is) and plowed through it as fast as I could. That was not smart :)
  • I've done this before and it damn near killed me, even scaling the rope climbs to pushups/sit ups. This is the single hardest CF workout I've ever done and it's not even close. I think I had to stop at 50 burpees. I had literally reached the point where I could not flip my legs up from the push up position to underneath my…
  • Today is a good Murph recovery day workout: Deadlifts 5x5. Pick a weight and stick to it. Power Cleans: 2-2-2-2-1-1-1-1 Working to a heavy single.
  • My only caveat to that is to be very, very careful about the veterans-based charities you give to. Many of them are not doing much at all to actually help veterans. I searched these sites: https://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?keyword_list=gallant+few&Submit2=Search&bay=search.results…
  • ^mainly because of the image of you in the street and cars dodging you left and right and you yelling "NO DAMMIT HIT ME, BREAK MY LEGS!!"
  • Greg Glassman can't do any of the movements. So if he held himself to your standard, Crossfit wouldn't exist. I say go for it. As long as you are straightforward with people they'll be fine, and it sounds like there are other coaches available if they want a demonstration of some of the movements you haven't yet mastered.
  • I probably walked half of the second run. My tank was completely empty, but I finished it in time to get into our group photo (just barely) Don't know my exact time but it was less than an hour, so a bit better than last year. I'll take it.
  • That was my second choice. Just didn't want to go all black. @KellyAnn1286 King Kong zippers are guaranteed for like 25 years.
  • We are doing running heats every hour from 9am until 1pm. Given that my good knee has been getting sore every time I run, I think I might sub out a 2000m row for the runs. I'd feel bad about doing it, but I need to be smart so I can continue working out. Murph to me is never one of those workouts that you are thinking "I'm…
  • that's about right. Breaking it down doesn't make it any more possible.
  • Liposuction. Maybe. Otherwise that just isn't physiologically possible.
  • I'll just add this: Strong women are sexy. End of discussion
  • OK people at work just asked me what's so funny, this made me laugh out loud.
  • I was the Kill Cliff East Coast Championships here in Boston this winter and one of the WODS involved pretty hefty cleans. Lauren Fisher was near the end and really fighting for a rep and peed in front of a few thousand people. *kitten* happens :)
  • Yesterday's was brutal, today's not much better. Yesterday: Gorillas 64 T2B 64 Burpee Pull Ups Run 1Mile. The people who did the fastest times did it Burpee, pullup, toes to bar, repeat. I went 8, 8 200m runs. Did knee ups (which for me is almost T2E but not quite. A bit less belly and I'm there.) Also don't have pullups…
  • Don't you hate when you do that and then immediately realize you aren't using enough weight? The first time I did Grace I did it with 95# (very early into my Crossfit days) and when it came up again I did 115# and about 5 reps in realized I should be doing RX.
  • I've seen that WOD in a competition but never done it. One of our coaches almost yacked doing it and he's in tremendous shape. Given that my cardio engine needs a lot of work, I think there would be a minute about halfway through where I did no thrusters, just to catch my breath We are starting an eating challenge June 1…
  • That WOD wasn't going to allow you to just turn your butt to the wall and finish it up. Good on you for running a mile, you could easily have done nothing. That WOD is still there, just schedule a day next week to go do it.
  • I think Alanis Morrisette didn't know the definiton of the word "ironic"
  • Just jumping in because I think the OP has an extremely valid point. I had no idea what full depth on a squat was before I joined Crossfit. I don't think I was the worst at my old gym, but I was probably going about 3/4ths of the way down at best. The real reason I left my gym is the upper body bros he describes were…
  • The issue is, if the girl has no interest in exercising/sweating, she's only going to work out as long as you can convince her to do it. You need to find something she likes or she won't stick to it. Maybe lifting is it, so give it a try, but you can't force people to be other than what they want to be.
  • Deficit Deadlifts, working to a heavy 2. EMOTM 12 Hang Squat Snatch. I will probably do some additional lifting afterwards. I haven't squatted in over a month, and that just ain't right.
  • ^I think part of the benefit of box jumps is the mental focus that they require. The second you lose it, you kill yourself. I've been lucky that when I busted it I didn't go shin first in to the edge, just took a tumble. Once I get a bit more competitive I'm seriously considering soccer shinpads when doing high rep box…
  • Competing is a lot of fun. I'm usually finishing last, but I really don't care as long as I'm pushing as hard as I can. I'm doing our inhouse competition (members only, AM vs. PM) in two weeks, but otherwise I'm going to hold off and really work on some GOATS and losing weight before I compete again.
  • Keep in mind that you'd have to lift enormous amounts of weight to really bulk up. It's MUCH harder for women than it is for men. We have a lot more testosterone and that's the driving factor. Your legs might not change size that much, but they will definitely change composition. CF is going to work muscles that you likely…
  • My wife got me one for my birthday. They are nice, but the shoe pockets aren't very breathable....so make sure when you get home you unzip everything and let them air out. Otherwise foul smells will greet you next time you open them. https://kingkongapparel.com/shop/king-kong-gym-bag/ Great bag, tons of room for all my…
  • My wife works at Tufts, and they used to have one. Not sure they do any more but I'm going to ask her to find out. According to their website, the only three in eastern MA are at Merrimack College (30+ miles away) at the aforementioned gym in Weymouth and on Cape Cod. http://www.bodpod.com/en/test-site-locator
