Diet
So between travel over Christmas and a brutal chest cold that is just now getting clear enough for me to consider working out again I've been fairly sedentary for almost a month. I also managed to lose 15 lbs in that month. Not magic, and the cold helped because I was coughing so much that I just was never hungry, so I…

Neverwinter
Are there any regular players on here? I'm on a guild that really doesn't do any group events or adventures and would like to find one that does.

Info and Tips for New Crossfitters
I figured it might be a good idea to pin a thread to the top for any new folks who are starting Crossfit. We generally tend to share the same information on different threads with new folks so one spot might make it more efficient and make sure everything that needs saying get said. For new folks: 1. Focus on form and…

2016 Crossfit Games
Today is Day 1, Back to the Ranch for a few workouts. I'm guessing these athletes could do all of the original Games programming today and not have it bother them.

Quick update
Sorry for my absence of late. The job search has taken up a lot of time. Lots of good leads but still looking. On very short notice, we got word that our gym and box had lost their lease and were closing in mid-February so it sent a lot of people scrambling. The box physically closest to us (less than a mile away) probably…

Winter Wendler Cycles
We just did our 1RM testing as we get ready to start Wendler cycles next week. Was happy with my squat (325) and deadlift (365) but the bench was really shakey at 235. I was honestly expecting about 265. I think doing the squats immediately before hand just gassed me or something. We did three cycles last winter and I…

Paleo Challenge for October
We started one Monday. Anyone else have one coming up?

Things NOT to do on a Paleo Challenge
Don't skip lunch and then show up for this WOD: Round of Cindy (5 pull ups, 10 pushups, 15 squats) 1 Thruster ROC 2 Thrusters ... 10 Thrusters to finish. Took me 30 minutes and drained me to my core. Not sore, just drained. Poor planning, poor results.

First Workout for 2015 Crossfit Games announced
Murph. Didn't say which event it is, but I'm pretty sure a buddy of mine who is moving out there as we speak is going to event 1 on Hermosa Beach. Beach Murph would be awesome

Age of Ultron
Who is heading out to see this? I won't get there this weekend but am thinking about taking a day off and going to see it next week during the day at a local IMAX theater.

Paleo Challenge
We started our month-long paleo challenge Monday. A few thoughts so far. 1. I feel so damned good when I eat Paleo. Better and more consistent energy levels, no bloating, etc. I don't know why I forget it so often and eat processed foods. 2. As long as I do some planning, keeping to it is no problem for me. I honestly…

I find this funny
We see so many people on this site fret about eating more than 1200 calories, yada yada yada. Meanwhile I'm putting more focus on my food intake and considered yesterday a pretty good day. I ate right at 3000 calories and I'd like to settle in at about 2800 and see how that feels for a while. And I usually have a smaller…

Wendler Cycle
We are starting one this week after figuring out 5RM last week. Doing back squat, bench and deadlift. Should be fun and I'm interested to see if I can manage some gains out of it

Crossfit Open 2015: 15.3
Did anyone see the post on Dave Castro's Instagram account last night? It was a photograph of a jumprope and two handguns, a 9mm and a 22mm. So I'm thinking either an AMRAP or for time combining those two movements.

Rowing Intervals
I have a decidely love/hate relationship with them. I'm a good rower because I'm tall, long legged and have pretty good technique. Good coaching at our box and my wife was a collegiate rower at Syracuse. However, rowing intervals might drain me more than anything we do in Crossfit, which I think is by design. I'm…

Notes from my coach: East Coast Championships
A note our head coach posted on our FB page. Just wanted to post something here that I noticed this weekend... and I am sure Coach Katherine can corroborate my story here from the ECCs this past weekend. My "job" volunteering was more or less being a glorified babysitter and getting each heat of athletes ready and…

COLD!
Damn it was cold this morning. -5F on the way to work, and I know our peeps in Montana have to be getting it worse than that. My car's electric unlock didn't work this morning. Fortunately it was just than and not a drained battery. And for Ashleearoha...just shut it with your southern hemisphere summer! :)

Goals for 2015
Since I like to do things to make myself accountable to my goals, I figured putting them out there publicly would be one step. You all have permission to yell at me if I slack off: I feel like my posterior chain strength is lagging badly and want to work to fix it. I can squat more than I can deadlift, which is the reverse…

Thread for new Crossfitters (pin this?)
I figured it might be a good idea to pin a thread to the top for any new folks who are starting Crossfit. How to see older threads
Because the latest update removed the ability to go back a few pages, you have to do it manually. Just add "/p2" to the end of the "All Discussions" page and you can see any older threads you might want to reference.

Paleo challenge results
Ok, so we just finished our Paleo challenge. It went for 5 weeks. I've done several before and have always gained back most if not all of the weight. This time is different, so I'm putting this out there for all to see. Give me a boot in the behind if you see me slacking :) Starting weight: 304.5, ending weight 286. Lost…

ROAD TRIP: Boxes in Springfield VA/Raleigh NC
I'm joining my wife for a conference in Washington DC the first week of November, the hotel is actually outside the city in Springfield. Would love some recommendations for CF boxes if anyone is from around there. Early contenders are NOVA Strength and Conditioning and Crossfit Liberation. That Friday we are driving down…

Paleo Challenge
So we are doing a five week Paleo challenge at our gym that started two Monday's ago. I'm down 7.5 lbs and have achieved what I call the Paleo Burn, where I just feel very energetic and a wee bit warmer than I normally am. Love it. My macros yesteray (workout day) were 120g carbs, 165 grams of fat, 197 grams of protein.…
