  • I'm also thinking that when I do this, I'm going to take the first minute to change into lifting shoes and load the bar. 6 minutes is plenty of time to get in 3-4 good reps. I figure 155, 175, 195 then I'm going for a PR. If I fail at one of those points I go up 10 from the last successful rep.

  • Best tip I saw was to NOT death grip the bar if you can help it. I will probably do the knee raises in sets of 5. I could do more but I wasn to save my grip as long as possible.
  • Thoughts: I think this is a pretty damned cool workout, one I could see myself doing again. I have a feeling a lot of boxes will use this as part of the regular programming going forward.
  • I've found that most of the beers I've consumed are in the database, if they aren't I search for a similar style (double IPA, stout) and log that.
  • This is true for anyone. I'm good for a while but if we're doing Karen, at some point I'm using mostly my left hand (dominant hand) to get it up there, like shooting a 20 lbs basketball
  • You can like them all you want, but on the mean tall people will find them easier. :) For example. I weight about 290lbs. I'm strong but I have a lot of work to do before I'd be anywhere near what I'd consider to be "in shape." My PR for a 500m row is about 1:30. The only thing keeping it from being faster is my cardio…
  • There is a reason (amongst the men) that you don't see many elite, competitive crossfitters over 6' tall. Rich Froning is pretty much the ideal blend of strength and conditioning at about 5'10 185. For me to mirror his body type at 6'3, I'd weight about 220. That's 35 more lbs I'd have to schlep around while doing…
  • For almost all of us the grip will be the first thing to go. You're probably just going to have to build up your wrist strength with accessory work. Straps are only going to help so much if you just can't hold the bar.
  • We had a competition this summer at our box and one of the WODs was outside in the parking lot involving sled pushing, tire flips (guys) and snatches for girls. They had to modify the results because so many people could not move the sled. In come cases because they weren't strong enough or had awful form, but in the vast…
  • ^are you tall? Rowing and wallballs both favor us tall people, so I'm just curious.
  • For the record, one of the girls in our box works at Reebok and we asked her to see if we could get tickets to 15.1. Apparently they all went in-house. Oh well. For those who don't know Reebok One (where 15.1 Froning vs. Fraser is going down) is ON the Reebok corporate campus. I haven't worked out there, but I've seen the…
  • I'm getting rolling this week as well. Need to get better on logging though.
  • ^join the club, leah :)
  • Only thing I'd add is eat a bit more carbs (maybe and extra 100-150 grams) on heavy work days and eat less on rest days. My target is near 3000 and if I'm eating strict Paleo it's impossible to eat those extra carbs. I just eat some rice or quinoa to make up the difference. Or a couple of bagels.
  • The first one seems like it's usually something that everyone can do RX. Last year was DUs and snatches. Even doing the DUs one at a time I was able to do 3 or 4 rounds.
  • Thrusters, DUs, chest to bar pullups, toes to bar, snatches, might be involved. And I agree that 14.5 was the single worst workout I've ever done. Even Murph and some of the hero WODs were easier. I stink at thrusters so I got maybe 3 at a time. The first two rounds took me 20 minutes then i realized I wasn't going to die…
  • ^what she said. Work with your coaches given your limitations and see what they can come up with. Also is there any chance the doctor is being a bit too conservative and a second opinion might be in order?
  • Usually when i finish up I'll leave the bar on track just stand it up to see how long I can take the pain. And then repeat it a few times. Hopefully that will help in the long run along with the other shoulder mobility stuff I'm doing.
  • Pretty much where I am too. My wrists limit my weight, so if we are just doing FS I'll do the first few sets in front rack, then do the heavier ones with arms crossed just to get the leg work in.
  • I might need to start another DU threads. I need to scrap what I'm doing and start from scratch. I can do one at a time, I can sometimes string 2 together but that's it.
  • ^true. But those two (IMO) are kind of fun to work on :) I can do walk walks like a champ but I haven't tried a handstand on the wall in a while. Might be time to get over myself.
  • So now you know the things you should be working on at least once a week.
  • ^mine are neon yellow. I wouldn't call them attractive, but they were the only color available in my size in EE. They're kind of like my trademark at the gym now, so they have that going for them.
  • Scale for jump rope I believe. jumping onto and off of a 45 lb plate. I've done comps where we did burpees that way. When you come up you jump onto the plate and off.
  • It gets easier the more consistently you do it, and the DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) will lessen as well.
  • When I was doing a stronglifts type full body workout I found that on occassion one day of rest was not enough for my muscles to recover. I just took it as a sign of old age and rested an extra day before hitting the next workout. The OP is a wee bit older than me. Might just need to rest a bit more from a really heavy…
  • Might be overtraining in your enthusiam, or just caught a cold or bug. Might just be that you aren't eating enough food. I'm 6'3 and about 290, probably low to mid 30s body fat. I'm aiming to lose weight slow and steady and I eat around 3000 calories a day. Look to some of the pinned information here and regarding Total…
  • You're going to kill it. See if you can get your box to schedule the Open workouts in about 6 months and have everyone compare the current one to that one.
  • You want them to be fairly tight, so don't buy large. If it's possible to go somewhere and try a pair on, I'd advise it. I found a Reebok store and tried on their lifters and they were far too tight for my wide feet, which made me look for brands that came with wide feet. I ended up with Inov-8 lifters and really like them.
