  • I am working on the same thing. I just started measuring out what I need to drink every morning (fills 4 water bottles) and then I work on it over the day.... only day two -- yesterday I met my goal (2500 mls) and only 800 mls to go for today (sigh!!)
  • I agree completely with veganbaum -- I lost 80 pounds -- mostly due to logging my food and learning a bit more about portion control. So many people ask how I did it because they want to lose weight and I always suggest that they log for a week or two to get into the habit, and figure out what they are eating now -- then…
  • I have also lost 80 lbs and maintained for about 18 months..... it took about a year to get used to it -- once I had to ask a sales women to get me two pairs of pants -- first a 14, then a 12 -- she originally suggested a 12 when she saw me in the size 16 section but I insisted that I was larger than I was... she was so…
  • has anyone read Thomas Bradbury & Benjamin Kerney's book - Love Me Slender. There is a youtube interview with the authors that talks about the book and the reasons why they wrote it.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSnc32CBPNM
  • I will never get tired of it!
  • I second that -- amazing and inspiring thread. For me it was that people were suddenly nicer to me and that my feet were smaller - that still amazes me :)
  • LOL It is weirdly comforting to hear how many of you get the "you are too skinny" comment -- I get it too -- and after losing 80 lbs (I do think part of it is the comparison to the obese me and the skinny me) I say (very enthusiastically) "OH THANK YOU VERY MUCH, THAT IS SO KIND OF YOU TO SAY" with a huge stupid grin on my…
  • Value Village or Talize (both in Canada) were my go to stores -- just buy a few things when you go down a size (it is very motivating -- much more than a belt!). I went from a 20 to a 12 before I starting buying things new but I still go to the second hand stores because I learned that you can find some great clothes there…
  • Oh gosh I hadn't ever thought about it! Hmmmm.... Anything store bought with sugar.... Cookies, pies, cakes, candy bars, well any candy, donuts -- definitely donuts! I will have to keep my one piece of dark chocolate a day habit but that will be the only exception. If I really want it, I will have to make it in my own…
  • Super post! Thanks!
  • Everyone is different. How are YOU feeling? Tired? Unfocused? You will know if you are not eating enough - listen to YOUR body. And eat clean - 1200 calories of good, unprocessed food goes a lot farther than the typical university cafeteria food. With the shred you are likely to lose inches so if you have not already, take…
  • Ruth, Wonderful post! Highlights perfectly that this is a trial and error process as we are all different and need to take the time to figure out what works for us. Thanks so much for sharing what works for you and inspiring us all to be patient with ourselves while we learn to be healthy, happy, and fit!! I am 10 pounds…
  • OMG this is so priceless!!! Here's to all the new skinny *kitten*!!
  • Lost 84 pounds -- 12.5 to go -- and yes sometimes I still feel like the fat chick.... Better now than it was 6 months ago and I guess I knew it would take time but sometimes when I go to put on a pair of pants I think "how will ever fit into those tiny things.." And then the pants are too baggy (which is exactly what…
  • I started at 261.5 in January 2013 and am also 5' 8" So far I have lost 84 lbs (12.5 to go!) and the first 30 came off in about 30 weeks... 1 pound/week pretty consistently until a 30 lbs plateau (I seem to have a plateau every 25-30 pounds and then I need to change things up a bit). I did not lose a ton of weight at the…
  • I find that having a goal outfit (or two) works for me. I try it on every couple of weeks and the change in the fit is very motivating! I have found that I need to lose 12-15 pounds for every size (everyone must be different) so once I have lost 4-5 pounds I can start to see a difference. Size 12 was my original goal size…
  • I also have a treat every day -- as long as I have the extra calories to fit it in..... lost 84 lbs so far so it seems to work for me
  • What a super idea! Since it is FINALLY not -30 here, I am going to get outside to get in some steps! And keep up with my 2500 ml/day water goal
  • If I remember correctly after I lost about 35-40 lbs I made myself go out and buy new clothes - I was 4 sizes smaller and when I wore my new clothes everyone started to notice. :). You'd think they would notice throat everything was hanging off me but most people did not. The best was one of my neighbours who saw me in the…
  • LOL! I love it! I will think that the next time some jealous (usually overweight) person says "well haven't you lost enough weight yet?"
  • I agree with an earlier post -- share here and tell whomever you think will be supportive. At the beginning I only told a few people and as I lost more weight I told more people and then eventually people started noticing -- it is a great way to be accountable I am losing 1 lb/week so this is a LONG term goal and I have…
  • I have lost 61.5 lbs as of this morning :). I just looked at my report and it took me about 6 months to lose the first 30 and 6 months to lose the next 30 ..... basically I am OBSESSIVE about logging my food and have only gone over my calorie limit a few times the past year In June I bought a fitbit flex and although the…
  • Same thing happened to me .... A few times now.... I think I am doing everything right (set up to lose a pound each week) but a few weeks go by and the scale doesn't move..... Then the pounds drop -- 4 or 5 in a week and I am back on track. It is hard not to get discouraged but hang in there!
  • My flex arrived on Monday and so far so good -- I am finding that it counts walking pretty accurately (much better than the many pedometers that I have tried over the years) -- when I am sitting unfortunately knows that I am sitting.... A friend has the fitbit one and it sounds like it is a bit more bossy than the…
