  • I have the Spirit XT10. I bought it a couple years ago when the model was being clearanced out. I love everything about it but 1 thing. The quick set controls increment by 2 only. So, speed, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 MPH. Incline the same. I let it drive me too much. Like I'll let it force me to 8 mph when I should be doing 7…
  • You've had a GREAT year Kayla! I'm very proud of you! And I'm SUPER glad to have met you on MFP! Before I met you, I was happily losing weight on MFP without ANY exercise at all. Then you started to talk about Lent and how you were giving up chocolate... And I decided to give up "being a slug" in solidarity with you and…
  • I've got 4: 1. Run 1000 miles in 2014. This works out to be about 3 miles a day - or much more likely, 20 miles a week for 50 of the next 52 weeks. 2. Reach my goal weight before 15 June. 3. Run a seven minute mile before the year ends. 4. Be in bed by midnight at least 5 days a week. (Failed in 2013)
  • Stepford wives give singles... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Op0qrTGRcxk
  • Well done! You're off the couch - that's the first step! Take it as slow as you need to and repeat weeks as you need. Good luck!
  • That's pretty good too - or a brain/head support jar...
  • Star Trek style holodeck. I won't need to GO anywhere... Ever again...
  • Measure your food and log it before you put the food into your mouth. Stop eating when you reach your limit.
  • Everyone else will fill in the "clean" stuff. :) I'll suggest good old fashioned ice cream sandwiches. You have two kids who will want periodic treats - you will want periodic treats... The iced cream sandwich, the normal ones, are reasonably priced, yummy, provide good portion control, and are only about 150 calories.
  • Someone on another thread said 1% Looking back over my logs - that seems to be spot on.
  • I weigh the raw chicken and log that before I eat. Then if I need extra calories after my meal - I subtract out the weight of the bits I don't eat. :) Meat is reasonably low calorie (especially chicken) - I save worrying about high precision for the things that are higher in calories.
  • Just keep getting back up. Take it easy, heal up, you'll be fine in a couple weeks.
  • http://www.nytimes.com/2013/12/26/health/common-knee-surgery-does-very-little-for-some-study-suggests.html?_r=0 I saw this the other day and thought it was interesting. I tore mine back in 1992 and the USAF treated it with PT (rubber band exercises) and ibuprofen. (I healed fine - BTW)
  • Very clever Mr. Bloomberg... :drinker:
  • This is my #1 resolution this year. :)
  • Brooks Adrenaline seem to be pretty commonly suggested for bigger people. I ran in them at 282 pounds. ETA: Start slow. I think more than shoes - trying to go too fast/far early on caused the (minor) problems I faced.
  • The streak is done! Total of 100.48 miles. Set new personal bests for distance (9.63 miles) and mile speed (8:14). And ran my first trail 5k.
  • With a 30 min 5k, you can probably do a 8:00ish 1 mile.
  • 8:14 last night. Down from 11:45 in June. Goal is 7:00 next year.
  • Ah, I get what you are saying. Try this: 1. Create an "exercise" called "Work" 2. Add "Work" for a 400 calorie burn on each work day This way you will account for being more active on your work days. Or you could just average it out and custom set your goals to that average.
  • Good for you getting therapy. Behavioral therapy has been shown to materially enhance maintenance outcomes. I should note that, in hindsight, 2 lbs a week is really pretty quick (104 lbs a year). And since the awesomeness starts immediately - it is probably ”fast enough” for most people.
  • He's right. Everyone "knows" that slow and steady gives you good habits and a sustainable lifestyle. But studies have consistently failed to show that this is actually true in any way. Some studies have even shown that starting out faster may be better.
  • Why are you going to be hypothyroid for the rest of your life? My son had thyroid cancer 1.5 years ago. After his compkete removal, he got a prescription for thyroid and now he's fine. He was intentionally hyperthyroid for a bit - but if you are being told that you must be hypothyroid long-term... That strikes me as odd…
  • Go slow if you need to go slow. You are a white collar, desk bound, 40 year old guy with other responsibilities and 60 lbs to lose. (basically my situation too, but 30 lbs or so left to lose) Take your due credit for being off the couch. My first 5k (May of this year) took 43 minutes. My normal mile time was 12 mins. My…
  • Hi Zoodocgirl and welcome! JUDDD does work pretty well for traveling and if you get a per diem when you travel, you'll make a little extra cash. :D When I travel, I try to align my travel days with fasting days and avoid eating in airports, on planes, etc. I usually go out Sunday and back Thursday so it works pretty well.…

  • Imagine someone gathered up a bunch of animal poop, threw it into a pile, added some vegetable leftovers to it, maybe some insects, and left this mess to rot for a couple months - then _grew_ carrots in this?!?! Oh wait. That's pretty normal. Actually you pay more for that. The cheap produce gets nice clean chemical…
  • So... The cows should eat gluten-free? Free-range, grass fed cows get sick too. There is this "new" theory called germ theory - this theory states that organisms get sick when they are infected with other naturally existing tiny organisms called germs. e.coli is one of these germs (a VERY common one). You are also…
