  • Did your doctor give you a target for carbs? Strict keto is under 30 g of carbs/day. Moderate is under 50 g/day. You need to see what works for you. There is a keto group in the MFP community. Maybe ask your questions there.
  • I don't think too much protein will make you gain weight. You need to look at the total amount of calories you're eating. If it's too many calories, and you're gaining when you want to be losing, then you need to decide where to cut calories. I keep the amount of carbs I'm eating to a minimum because of blood sugar…
  • I've been on this weightloss journey since January. In April when we had a warm day, I pulled out a pair of sz 16 shorts and was pleasantly surprised I could wear them. I couldn't wear them last summer. Today I pulled out that same pair of shorts to wear on a hike, and they're practically falling down. I know I'm losing…
  • I work in a small office (a nonprofit), and I am currently in the process of losing weight. One change I made is that I am eating low carb, which has helped me immensely. I pack a lunch that is protein based. Since I've started eating differently, I really don't have cravings or the afternoon crash where I used to reach…
  • It doesn't have to do with the calorie deficit. The pancreas produces insulin in response to a meal eaten. Some people's hormones get out of balance and the body produces excess insulin. Perfectly healthy people wouldn't have this problem. Diabetics do have this problem (except for cases where they are producing no…
  • I have to back up Knosti a little on this. If you want to do the keto way of eating, don't do "cheat" days. It's counterproductive. That would not be nutritional ketosis. Keto is not the same as other low carb plans. If you choose low carb, then maybe cheats or treats will work for you. For some people, eating too much…
  • Maybe try not as low as you were doing? Like, how many grams of carbs per meal or per day were you consuming? Did you go cold-turkey or gradually reduce them?
  • Hi Susan & Nadia. A lot of people find their blood sugar levels improve as they lose weight. So, that is something the dietitian will probably recommend. There is a pinned thread in this group with a bunch of resources about diabetes. Personally, I say avoid carbs (I eat low carb/keto). Some people disagree with that, like…
  • They are so bad. There are thousands of much better cookies, if you can work them into your plan.
  • I don’t have much advice as I am newly diagnosed too but there is a Type 2 Diabetes support group within MFP groups, with some helpful pinned posts. Come join that community!
  • I had not heard of him. It may be worth a try. It seems that if diabetics can lose weight, that often improves insulin sensitivity. If intermittent fasting helps you to lose weight and get your sugar under control, that would be great.
  • Could you explain this a bit more? Why can't I trust the bathroom scale at goal weight compared to starting weight? I get that InBody is probably more accurate or techinical, so is this because you have some specific goal? Do you do bodybuilding?
  • I'm reaching the point where my pants don't stay up & look bad. I need to buy some in a smaller size. But I hate thrift-store shopping. I somehow didn't get that gene passed down from my mom. I've been delaying getting new clothes because I'm not done yet. Still have a ways to go. I like t-shirt type dresses. Maybe I'll…
  • We accept them, too, at the food pantry where I work.
  • Re the pee sticks: no you don’t have to match the darkest color. It is a range, low amount of ketones-high amount of ketones. In the middle is good. Too low, and you’re not in ketosis. Too high can lead to Ketoacidosis.
  • One day at a time.

  • Thanks for this info.
  • Possibly low. Another resource said .8 gm/kg of healthy weight, which is where I started. That calculation got me to 50 gm. Also, I do eat meat & whole food. The almond flour biscuit was just a suggestion. I'm admittedly a beginner at this. I don't want to argue w/ people about it. I'm trying to learn. And I was trying to…
  • Psulemon, I’m certainly not one to equate protein with sugar. (Although I’m sure there is a lot of misinformation online, even in this community. We need to take care and be wise to decipher truth from error. ) I’ve taken my cues for the Keto Diet from doctors I’ve read online & books. Here’s one article about protein’s…
  • This isn't quite right. You do want to be careful of too much protein, because some of the amino acids in protein can be converted to glucose in the blood for energy. Fatty acids are processed by the liver to be converted into energy by way of ketones--eventually into glucose, but it's a more complex process that your body…
  • This will probably be an unpopular opinion, but when I started eating low carb, no sugar, I stopped having afternoon snack cravings at work. It surprised me, but it's true. If I don't eat enough calories for lunch, I do get hungry. But I don't get snack cravings while not hungry, as I used to.
  • yeah, I heard about that. yikes.

  • Great news!
  • Good job! I'm new to keto, but I think it's the right plan for me.
  • From what I’ve read, there is about a 2 week adjustment period where you can feel really tired, but then it gets better. I’m just starting keto. My running has been shorter lately (<1 hr), certainly nothing like you’re doing.
  • I’m collecting questions like this to ask at the education class. Although I don’t expect to get answers to these types of questions.
  • I'm sorry to hear that. It sounds like a really bad situation.
  • I was going to ask if you’ve tried any stretches or exercises like this. This is what helped me with PF. Here’s a video with some examples. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0Z-R7WRFznE
