  • The biggest advantage is the lack of preservatives in home made bread. I believe that's where the chemical nasties are. I have a breadmaker and use it when I can be bothered but I gain a KG when I sniff bread at the moment so it's off the menu for a while but if you can tolerate bread in your diet and are fine with portion…
  • There isn't a kind of coffee I don't like and I'm also a fan of Iced coffee.
  • Walk as much as possible and drink as much water as possible. Have small tastes of naughty things and don't be affraid of leaving food on your plate. And most importantly enjoy yourself. Don't weigh until a few days after.
  • I think there is something to be said for the kind of cals too but it's a very individual thing. My goal is 1680 a day. I rarely eat anywhere near that. I've tried eating closer to it and eating a lot less to see if that made a difference as well as doing more in terms of excercise that didn't make a difference either. I'm…
  • Sprinkle on cumin, cayenne pepper, smoked paprika and oregano. Grill then squeeze fresh lime juice over while still warm then serve.
  • My goal is 1680. I always aim for less. 1200 doesn't always feel like enough for me but somewhere in the middle is just right. I know people that eat a lot less and a lot more and I just encourage them all to do what's right for them.
  • When I was a UK 12 I wore a 32E. I'm a 16 now and wear a 36DD I hope I'm back to the previous size!
  • When I was younger I cut out wine and lost 7lb in a month. This time I tried that first and it made no difference so I worked it into my cals had just a couple of glasses and gained the following day. I have a habit of snacking when I drink so I cut out crisps and worked in pickles and cold meats to go with my wine so the…
  • Hi, I've been in this situation too although without the binging as it's constantly in my head that if I start I'll be in a worse situation than before which is enough for me. anyway. I eat the same cals as you. I recently hit a plateau and the for a week I did low sodium, less diet drinks, upped my water, no wine or beer,…
  • I'm a bit shorter than you and have a 36 inch waist and 43 inch hips but around same weight. Makes sense to me. There are people that I know weigh less than me by a stone or more and still wear same size clothes as me. (UK 16) agree that everyone is different.
  • 4m3 one of my friends on here drinks almond milk with G&B cocoa powder. That's right up my street but I've not seen almond milk where I live. I'm going to venture further affield to see if I have better luck. Chocolate almonds are sorting out my cravings at the moment! Good tip there everyone!
  • My weight loss hit a plateu recently and started to go down again since I'm down to a few diet drinks per week, less sodium, more water and no white carbs or wine or beer. I don't know which has been the most help. I still crave and have sweet things. I think aspartame in other things triggers my cravings more than in diet…
  • Me too! My story is on my profile. Feel free to add me.
  • Dark chocolate covered almonds are my friend. A few in the evening with a coffee sort out my cravings and not too bad on the cals.
  • Thanks all. I have to say I don't always worry this much about holidays but there is a reason for it this time. My weight loss so far has been very slow. On a previous holiday to the same country I put on half a stone in a week. It's taken me 2 months to lose that hence my panic!
  • I do the cinnamon thing a lot when I'm here. I live in Cyprus and Greeks put cinnamon everywhere. Even in meatballs! Almonds, ceral bars and fruit and drinking lots of water are great ideas. Costa is a bit like starbucks so possibly a better option if I want a bigger lunch but they tend to be high on the cals. I think I…
  • If I was to go to the gym of a morning I'd go for either option mentioned above although I can't always stomach eggs first thing. I think on the subject of protein it is a very individual thing. I need lots of protein in my diet even though I'm not very active but I find a small amount of carbs with it helps which is why…
  • Agree on the parmesan idea. Also like in moussaka but also try it with courgettes onions and tomatos to make Ratatouille to have with grilled meat or pasta or make middle easten type dips like baba ganosh or Zaalouk. You can find recipes for all those on google. I like the later with cheese in a wholewheat quesadilla.
  • Half way to my initial goal but it's taking longer than I wanted. Will see how it goes after that as I think I have a lot to lose and will do it in stages .
  • Ex pat here! From Surrey but still have UK house in West Midlands and live in Cyprus.
  • Just re read and saw the bit about potassium. Going to try that. I know it's in bananas but I'll google other sources.
  • I have a problem with sodium causing water retention at the moment. Just to give you an idea the other day my sodium was over 3000 just from a slice of pizza. That day I was drinking a lot of water and the following morning I was up 1.5lb. I gained and lost 3lb the week before from the same problem so I'll be keeping an…
  • Hi Feel free to add me and look at my diary too as I'm in exactly same boat as you. I started this 6 weeks ago but didn't discover MFP until I was half way through. I've lost 5 kg ish up to now and have at least 15 to lose probably even 20. Am on 1680 cals and hit all macros and have been under cals every day. I had a…
  • I agree the recipes take a while but they went down well in my house, having said that I cooked loads of them last week and put on 3lb! Hopefuly there is another explaination for that, anyway, pasties and rice pudding my fave. I turned the lasagne into mousaka by adding allspice to the meat sauce and counting aubergines…
  • I agree with all of the above! Have the latest SW and WW mags and the recipes are a bit bland and use processed food in some cases. And none of the ones I wanted to try are on here. Jamie's 15 minute meals good in theory but bit of a challenge to do any of them in that time!
  • I think I eat quite cleanly. Welcome to look at my diary and add me.
  • I think it depends what you are trying to achieve. My friend has one she also studies it and has a PT and goes to WW it's not surprising she gets confused by conflicting info! If you're following a plan of sorts the big corps and the successful dieticians will all be qualified to help but if you are following a healthy…
  • Hi all feel free to add me. I'm in the same boat too. It's been 2 years here but I'm only 1 month into my weight loss journey. Found out tubes etc are all ok so very good chance the weight is the issue. My problem is that the doctor has me on meds that cause birth defects. Am desperate to come off them. Also not sure if we…
  • Hi. I agree that it's what's best for you. My first goal is to get out of the morbidly obese range. I'm 1.5 kg away, then it'll be 10% of my origional weight off, then the top of the ideal weight range then I'll see how I feel. I know at lot of people that have kept going, had the too skinny comments and enjoyed them in…
  • Fish curry is light too if they do it. Something like a cod bhuna. My absolute fave! And second what everyone says about sides.
