  • There has been a family emergency and it looks like I won't be completing this program. Maybe when things settle down and I get my life back in order I can try again. Good luck to all of you.
  • I just started week 4 and loving it!
  • Thanks for all the positive comments and recommendations. The links have been helpful as well. I appreciate the support! :)
  • No matter what I would do, or wouldn't do, something would seem wrong to someone out there. I'm not out to please any person in particular but to do the best I can for myself and my family. I was only asking if anyone else had any success with their overweight children and if they had any tips for long-term success. I've…
  • Perhaps it's because you don't see children with medical issues like I do on a daily basis. I don't want a life of illness for my son. I want him to live a long and healthy life. :\
  • Thank you! And I have to laugh because I know better, I also have a 13 year old daughter and 15 year old son so I'm well aware of this just being the tip of the iceberg! lol
  • He has eggs (often scrambled and cooked in a little bit of coconut oil) along bacon many days for breakfast. I don't believe in the low-fat craziness. ;) I think a lot of the overeating had to do with the poor food choices we had available (Cinnamon Toast Crunch anyone?) I don't keep food from him, if he's hungry there are…
  • I do understand, and appreciate, what you're saying. Unfortunately, kids can be very cruel and there have been comments made to him about him being "fat" that have been very hurtful. I think those comments would do more to cause eating disorders/problems than his parents encouraging healthy choices and behaviors. As I…
  • I already stated why we weigh him weekly. This is to make sure he isn't losing too much, too quickly. I don't count his calories. He eats breakfast, lunch at school, has a snack when he gets home from school and then has dinner. We just try to make healthier choices and portion control.
  • He has snacks, just not the same kinds of snacks he had before. Now when he has snacks he has a piece of fruit, some veggies with hummus or some Greek yogurt, maybe even a cheese stick. He isn't constantly snacking on cheez-its or teddy grahams. That's what I was trying to say about the snacking but obviously didn't get my…
  • I'm about 20 pounds overweight, my husband probably about the same. I was doing well until nursing school. :) Life got busy, was easier to get prepackaged foods and get take out than take time to cook wholesome meals. Had no time for exercise, nor the energy. Making it a priority in my life now. I have two older kids as…
  • Yes, his doctor is a pediatrician and I work for him. The "goal" that I have for him is just one I have in my mind. Nothing I've mentioned to my son or anything that I have set in stone. Just a weight that I think would likely be a good healthy weight for him, give or take a few pounds. I'm sure his weight loss will slow…
  • There has been a time or two that there hasn't been a loss (he has averaged about a pound a week but not every single week has been a loss) and those weeks have been just fine! I'm not some monster. Nobody gets upset or disappointed. I tell him that he's done a great job and made good choices. I'd love him and am proud of…
  • I don't eat any of those things either. I just don't buy them anymore. I never really did eat them. My issues came moreso from eating out all the time and not making good choices when I did so, and not being active. The kids now see me making better food choices and exercising daily. I know that it's my responsibility,…
  • I know it's not really a diet since I put the word in quotations. I'm just trying to teach him a healthier way and not have him fall into the same crappy lifestyle that I did. I just don't buy things anymore that we don't need to eat. He does snack on healthier things when he's hungry, but when we first started a healthier…
  • I have discussed it with his doctor. He's very pleased with the progress he has made thus far. We (the doctor and myself) never really set a "goal weight" for my son but basically he has said that we need to just make sure he's making healthy choices (most of the time) and that as he grows, he'll likely grow into his…
  • I honestly don't think it's possible to gain that amount of weight in 3 days, even water weight.
  • It's interesting to see a man at 1200 calories... When I did weight watchers way back in the day, I never used my flex points and didn't count my points during one day of the week, so I basically did the same as you by having a "cheat" day. I will start tomorrow and see where this goes. I appreciate all the replies!
  • That's great to hear! I'm excited to start this program and relieved to know that it's not necessary to cut down to 1200 calories in order to see results.
  • Thank you for your replies. I was very tempted to try the 1200 calorie diet for 90 days just to get the most dramatic results I could, however, I don't want to mess up my metabolism in the process. I'd like to make a change that I can stick with. I'll try doing it with TDEE -20% and see how it goes. At the moment I'm not…
  • Yeah, I have a question or two... Why is it that so many people who take the real, not counterfeit stuff, have ended up in the ER with heart and blood pressure issues? Why is it that my daughter's teacher, who was a healthy young woman, had a heart attack shortly after beginning to take these pills? Why has my husband who…
  • Just three weeks ago you were worried about a plateau and now you're concerned that you're losing too fast? Give your body some time to adjust and look at the overall trend, not just week to week gains/losses.
  • Too much (or even a tiny bit for some people) can give you diarrhea or excessive gas. My body doesn't handle it well, that's enough of a reason for me to avoid it.
  • What is a certified health coach? You must admit that you totally contradicted yourself. "Mr. Hollywood" was just kind enough to point it out for you.
  • You can get some really great deals there, especially on fresh produce! It's definitely worth a try. They don't have a bunch of name brand items, mostly just their brand but very comparable to popular brands.
  • I just ordered the book and won't receive it until tomorrow but plan on starting within the coming week. :)
  • The pills you are talking about are very dangerous. I've known many people who ended up in the ER with heart problems directly related to these pills. Stay far, far away from them!
