It depends on what I'm doing with them. If I'm cooking something then regular old eggs are good enough. If it's something I won't be heating up (protein shake or if I'm adding it to something pre-made) then Egg Beaters or the Egg Beaters Egg Whites. The Egg Beaters stuff is pasteurized, so you can eat it raw. Makes for a…

The thing you need to watch the most for is the sodium. Someone already posted the link to their nutrition PDF. And the restaurant, at least the local one, has it printed out, you just need to ask for it. When the wife and I go, I usually get either the Garlic Grilled Jumbo Shrimp (370 calories) off the grill menu or a…

Just got a new pup on Saturday, see my profile pic. Rescue dog, black lab and bassett hound mix, according to the shelter. I don't see the bassett hound in him, and if I had to guess, I would say he's got more of a austrailian shepard mix in him. The joys of not knowing, which is what happens when a shelter rescues 12…

5' 11" tall, 157 pounds (Shout out to the Dan Patrick Show). I regularly hit 600 calories in an hour, either running or at boot camp. Usually my heart rate is up around 135 when I hit that threshold. Speed runs where I'm doing intervals or tempo runs, my heart rate can get up in the 150-160 average for the hour-long run,…

I would run your 5K that you have planned, take it at a somewhat aggresive pace, but don't kill yourself. From there, since you'll have a baseline race and time established, you can launch into any number of training plans. I use SmartCoach out on runnersworld.com. It's free, it's also an iPhone app for those who may be…

Yep, need more data. Not just content, but 500 calories under what goal? If their daily calorie goal is 1200 calories and they're regularly 500 calories under that, yeah, I'd say something. If their daily calorie goal was 2500 calories (not unheard of in maintenance or for those who actually want to gain), I probably…

Turkey bacon is blasphemy and and an abomination. You should hunt down and destroy all turkey bacon.

My wife and I made this last week, added about a pound raw-weight of grilled chicken then divided it up. It was a good dinner (and a couple lunches ) http://www.managercomplete.com/engine2/recipe.aspx?category=Dinner&id=44 (The website says the serving size is for one person, I don't think that's right. We divided…

Yes. My wife and I have not restricted ourselves from eating anything specific during our weight loss journeys, so it's technically fair game. If we do it's usually Chick Fil A. At least there the chicken looks like chicken. My littlest one loves the cinnamon apple pouch that you can get with the kids meal. And my 5 year…

But did you stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night? I took some Tae Kwon Do when I was around 10 years old. My parents wanted to instill some discipline in me and I'd like to think that, between the training and the "if you can't get your **** together, you won't be allowed to play baseball" threats, it worked (at least…

Yep, my experience agrees with Carson. My 5K times dropped dramatically once I started half-marathon training last year (I throw in the occassional local 5K mostly for fun, but also because I can get them cheap or free through my work). The 11-12 mile LSD on the weekend helped build up the stamina needed for speedy 5K…

I've had good luck on prices shopping either www.holabirdsports.com or www.roadrunnersports.com. Both have massive closeout sections. Roadrunner Sports also has a VIP program, it costs $5 or something like that to join, but you get 10% off prices and free shipping. The other option would be to watch your Sunday ads for the…

Or make your own! This - http://www.marthastewart.com/326858/slow-cooker-pear-and-apple-butter - was pretty easy, just time consuming to peel and slice all the fruit. I used the splenda/brown sugar blend, so it cut down the calories a bunch. And it lasted a long while (makes a big crock pot full).

Yep, definitely "buyers beware" on the database. As the other poster said, if it has an asterisk, that means it was entered by another member and may not be accurate (no asterisk means the entry was entered either by MFP or by you). I check just about everything against the package it came in, restaurant foods against…

I eat greek yogurt every day. I buy the plain stuff, eat it 1 cup at a time and flavor it with about 50g of some kind of berry (been on a raspberry and blackberry kick lately) or 1g of cinnamon, then sweeten either topping with 10g honey. Comes out pretty dang tasty, if you ask me.

I don't see why not. I've baked with protein powder. This one is on my "to try" list at home. http://www.livestrong.com/recipes/blueberry-power-protein-muffins/ Why was this a mistake? That's my breakfast every morning. 1/2 cup plain oatmeal made with water then I add in 1 scoop of protein powder, 1/2 cup Egg Beaters egg…

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AhrF6DYrFPujdDFJODJKQzB5QTQ0eXVIcWstTHBRZHc You're welcome. Don't listen to the yogurt, eggs, nuts people. If you're looking for the most bang for your buck, grams of protein per calorie, it's tuna steaks. (tuna STEAKS, not that canned garbage). I can't remember exactly where I…

My typical week: Saturday: Long Run (11-12 miles, around 9:00-9:15 per mile) Sunday: Short Easy Run (3-4 miles, 9:00-9:15 per mile) Monday: No run, just cross-train Tuesday: Speed Work (tonite, for example, is intervals. 6 miles total: 1 mile warm-up, 3x 1600 @ 7:16 with 800 jog, cool-down) Wednesday: Boot Camp Thursday:…

I run to this playlist: http://www.livestrong.com/slideshow/551454-the-20-most-intense-workout-songs/ And there's two mixes out on Spotify that were made for Jillian Michaels by some Italian DJ. I'd find links, but I'm at work sans spotify right now. Each is an hour long and decent to work out to, if you don't mind remixes…

It started with "just" getting in shape and looking good. Then, to keep motivation up to get out there and run, I started entering races. I've run a half-marathon relay and a full half-marathon already (Disney's Princess Half-Marathon 1:54:16). I've got a 4-race "season" coming up starting in September, so I'm working…

Have to agree with the others. The time is always there *if* you're willing to take it. I am not a morning person, so I will not be one of the "get up at the *kitten* crack of dawn to get your workout in" kind of guys (although I do enjoy my weekend LSD as the sun comes up). Typically I'm at work by 7:30, my work day is…

Seasoning I could go any way, but a good steak needs nothing more than black pepper and smidge of salt. As for cooking, black and blue please. Not a cool red center for rare. a *COLD* red center for me. Delicious.

I do it every day, too! BSN Syntha 6 Strawberry Milkshake is delicious in oatmeal. The Cookies and Cream is pretty good, too. (And there's nothing on the package saying to not put it in hot foods).

The site-entered data comes from the USDA database (http://ndb.nal.usda.gov/ndb/foods/list), I'd trust it. After all, it's your government, would they lie to you? The other posters are right, one pound bone-in chicken will have less consumable product than one pound of boneless chicken. If you eat the bones, well....the…

476 days. I missed February 12, 2011, otherwise it would be since January 3, 2011. There are friends on my friends list that are well over 500. I've seen a couple people post about 600 and, IIRC, 700 day streaks.

The instructor for the fitness camp I go to wants chest to ground for it to "count" (I guess that gives the gals an advantage over the guys  ), hands under or just barely outside your shoulders with no wiggly worms (keep a straight plank line - shoulders to butt to feet) and puts much more emphasis on form and…

Chicken breast, tuna steaks (really great protein to calories ratio. Not the canned crap, actual tuna steaks), turkey breast, all good sources of protein. Someone a couple days ago posted a link to a listing of foods and protein counts. I downloaded the data, added a couple calculations, and made it sortable, because I'm a…

Jimi Hendrix - Purple Haze Only because it's the last song I listened to, only a couple minutes ago.
