It's that time of year again, the D-Day 10k at Currahee. Race starts at Camp Toccoa's historic site then, at the mile 2 mark, it's a near 700-foot climb over the next mile up to the top of Currahee Mountain. camptoccoaatcurrahee.com/ No race distance PR's will be set. And I've been nursing a hamstring for about 2 months…

5.2 miles, 22 obstacles. 1:30:29 Too many burpees. And I've rediscovered is that I need still to figure out how to stop sucking at climbing things. Otherwise, the Fort Benning Spartan Sprint was a good weekend. We were there early enough to watch the Rangers start the race and go through a couple of the obstacles that were…

The entry for "Egg, Whole, Raw" that's verified used to have all the size eggs in it. Someone boogered it up so now all it has is in it is grams :/ . A large egg is 45-50 grams (just the stuff inside, not the shell). No idea on a medium. The calorie data matches the USDA Nutritional Database

Much like @MobyCarp, not a PR for me this weekend. I went in with high hopes and coming away with a renewed respect for hills and an overwhelming feeling of being undertrained. The entire course (Strava Route, hopefully it works) was hills. My goal of 6:50's vanished, but I managed to finish 6th of 163 runners @ 1:06:17…

Cupcake Road Race 15k in Cumming, GA, tomorrow morning. First race since October. And after a week of lows in the low 50's/upper 40's, start time tomorrow will be 37 degrees. Yep, must be raceday for me. Always cold when I race.

1 whole egg, ~100g egg whites, green pepper scrambled on toasted english muffin. Usually ends up in the 230-250 calorie range When I'm feeling daring I add some cheese.

I work with a running coach as well. He's helped me with form, he's helped me plan workouts that have really allowed me to destroy my PR's (went from a 22-minute 5K two years ago to 19:25 this past fall). But the most useful thing he's done for me -- helped me recognize when I should just slow down or rest. It's funny how…

Pretty sure Droz sums it up the best... (FWIW, I wear the shirt that has my coach's logo when I race or my Clemson sleeveless tee)

I utilized the Lean Cuisines a lot as I lost the bulk of my weight. And still I keep a few on hand for when I need something quick and I didn't get to meal prep. They're relatively easy, you can get good variety and generally taste OK. People will bash them because of fillers and I don't really like the sodium content,…

Currently alternating between Polo Red Intense and John Varvatos Vintage. I keep Polo Black in my gym bag for after the post-workout shower.

I do two cross-fit style workouts per week in addition to the 4 days of running that are on my schedule. There's a group of us at work that do the workouts together, most of the workouts are focused on core strength, Thursday was a typical workout - mile warm-up jog, 5 rounds 15x 50lb kettlebell swings, 15x box jumps, 25x…

One whole egg, ~100g egg whites, green pepper, mushrooms, spiced sea salt served open-faced on a toasted whole wheat bagel thin, and a big cuppa water.

I ignore what the Garmin says. I'll take the average-for-the-workout heart rate data over to here: shapesense.com/fitness-exercise/calculators/heart-rate-based-calorie-burn-calculator.shtml and calculate it out. That same site has an activity based calculator, which includes running, walking, etc., based on paces. It's a…

Body weight, body weight, body weight! There's nothing wrong with using what you've got ;) I've found a number of good workouts here: breakingmuscle.com/bodyweight/36-weeks-of-bodyweight-workouts-108-workouts One of my favorites is a quick warm-up jog then sets of push-ups, sit-ups and squats (5-10 rounds of 10/20/30, for…

I wear compression shorts. I usually buy either Nike or Under Armor after learning the hard way with the Eastbay and Roadrunner cheap-o ones that yes, indeed, you get what you pay for. In the winter I'll wear longer base-layer tights. It's a hold-over from my heavier days where it really helped to keep everything from…

25-30, typically across 4 runs in a week with 10 of that being in a long run. I like half marathons and when I go back into race-training mode, I hate having to rebuild from a 7 or 8 mile long run starting point.

I once again was honored to follow in the footsteps of 18,000 men from the Greatest Generation. The Camp Toccoa D-Day Memorial 10k starts at the historic Camp Toccoa grounds and runs up Mount Currahee. 2 miles of rollers then mile 3 is straight up for a 600-650 foot climb. This is the third year in a row that I've run it…

What is becoming an annual tradition (I've run the last two), the Camp Toccoa D-Day Memorial 10k Run. Will not be a distance PR, my only goal: beat last year's time. Why? There's a mountain in the middle. The race runs from Camp Toccoa up Currahee Mountain (about a 550ft climb over the course of about a mile) and back to…

Personally I use a HRM, but I rarely look at it when I'm actually running, only after to see how I performed. Recently, however, I ran a 10-miler where the runner in front of me was 4 minutes ahead, the runner behind me was 6-minutes behind. The runner who finished just behind me and I were talking about having to…

Met a personal goal I had set this weekend running the We Love Moms 10-miler. Super-flat course on one of the greenways along a feeder creek for the Chattahootchie. Finished third out of 30 runners, had set a goal of 70 minutes and crushed it at 1:07:45. Only drawback to the race was that the second place finisher was…

I have a coach. He coaches as a side job, so, because he and I work together (and because of company policies) he provides coaching input for me gratis. So, to that extent, it's worth it :p The biggest things I've gotten from him - First and foremost is encouragement. When I'm down because I've had a particularly hard…

A good weekend for me at the Publix Georgia Half-Marathon. Finished in 1:33:24, 159th out of 5941 runners, 27th in my age group. No, no additional bling (other than the standard finisher's medal), but I shocked myself with my pace and it's a PR by almost 3 minutes on a hilly, challenging course, so I'm proud.

Somewhere in the 3 year range to lose 170-180 pounds. Started at 340-ish lb, somewhere around 38% body fat, lowest point was 157lb, 12% body fat (measured by the bathroom scale, but it's a consistent measurement method for me, so I watched general trend, not the specific number, per se). It was not a good look on me. I've…

Holy carp. Almost $36 per box? And I thought Quest bars were expensive... (FWIW I usually wait for bodybuilding.com or vitaminshoppe.com to have a sale on Quest or a general discount code and stock up)

I weigh myself almost every day. But I don't record until Friday. And Friday weigh-in I usually push the scale around the floor, reset it and take 4 or 5 measurements then average them. Not that it tends to vary much, but the engi-nerd in me wants something better than a "data point of one."

And it may be more specific to the container, not the coffee itself. I would assume whatever they use for a liner in the box won't hold up to the microwave too well.

Suwanee Gateway Half-Marathon, finished 14 of 250 runners, 35-39yo male AG winner @ 1:36:10. Was on pace for sub 1:35:00 (my goal) until I hit the hills at mile 8. Good swag from this race - long sleeve tech shirt, finisher's medal, finisher's fleece blanket, AG top 3 received an engraved medal with name and race time, AG…
