  • I had the reverse happen to me, and it's just as embarassing. I was at a school yard sale fundraiser last week and wanted to buy something, but didn't really need anything. I found in a box of books the DVD box set of Leslie Sansome's 5 walking dvds. I had used her program before, umm, not particularly legally and figured…
  • Hooray Miranda Kerr! She drinks 4 tablespoons of coconut oil per day. Oh of the fatiest oils there is. She is living, breathing, beautiful proof that fat does not make someone fat
  • I've been using lettuce for wraps for a long time now, with great results. Just a suggestion though -- use a type of lettuce other than iceberg. Iceberg lettuce is the nutritional eq of a glass of water. I usually use Romaine, but spinach or other dark green lettuces are great too.
  • God I wish that bs breakfast/boost metabolism myth would just die already.
  • Like everyone else, I think you look great, but I know where you're coming from. We both have round faces and hold our weight in our upper body, so we look bigger in pictures than we do in real life -- it sucks, but it happens. I look at least 30 pounds heavier in pictures that don't have my arms from EXACTLY the right…
  • It really depends on where you lose your weight. I went from a 10 to a 0-2 from January to May (still a 0 per Old Navy & Gap) and lost around 25 pounds (from 156 to 130). A friend of mine lost around the same amount of weight and is still wearing the same pants she was wearing because she lost it all in her upper body and…
  • In Feb 2010, I saw the pictures from our wedding day in Dec 2009. My husband worked on making them "better", but knew how unhappy I'd be with them. You can even see one in my profile (looks like me but with a extra 100 pounds or so). I've always taken horrible pictures and I've always been able to wear smaller clothes…
  • Most protein shakes are around 130 calories. You're not going to gain much with those few calories -- unless you're drinking them non stop all day every day. Are you looking to use it to replace a snack/meal or in addition to your regular foods?
  • I understand that your meals are filling, but what did you eat to gain the weight? Eating 800 calories a day wouldn't have gotten you to 180lbs.
  • Do you watch sports? I plan an hour of jogging, boxing, kicking, jumping, push-ups, etc during hockey & baseball games (HUGE sports fan). I run when the game is on (so I can watch) and during commercials do the push-ups and stuff that takes me away from the screen. Some commerical breaks I run up and down stairs and some I…
  • Is that the one on King? I walk by that every day, twice a day!! Menu is tough. Think you'll need to be making some substitutions!
  • If you're going to be concerned about everything that COULD happen, then you'd never leave the house. You can get sick off of chicken and veggies -- are you never going to eat those? Dr. Atkins fell on ice and slammed his head against a sidewalk and died a week or two later at the age of 72. Don't think grains or buckets…
  • Honestly, when you're a higher weight, any real change should result in weight loss. If my British math is right, you were like 285 pounds when you started. At that weight, any regular movement and any limit of calories is going to result in a loss. It's just plain science. The challenge will be when you're within a…
  • If you don't have a specific goal, then you need to give yourself rewards for working out. I reached my goal in June (which was when the event I wanted to lose for occured), so I try to plan random events so I want to maintain my weight (got a party in November that I have a tiny dress to wear). If that doesn't work for…
  • Kind of confused. You said no sugar, but you've got Special K (which has around 3 types of sugars in it), low fat milk (they add sugar to it to make it low fat -- hence all the carbs in milk and none in full fat cream) and two bowls of fruit (again, sugar) and no starches (not sure what your Special K is made out of, but…
  • Not a single #firstworldproblem ??? So disappointed in all of you.
  • I eat the 99% stuff. Took a while to get used to (had to build my way up through 70 up to 85 and past 90%) and now it makes all milk chocolate taste gross. Best part is because it's so strong, you can only really stand to eat a small amount of it. I love the 90% stuff -- that I can eat a whole $3 bar of without even…
  • I was stuck at 140 for what seemed like forever. Originally that was my goal, but I was very unhappy at 140 -- still had a huge roll of fat around my midsection, my arms were "puffy" and I didn't feel any healther than when I was 50 pound heavier. I was one of those robots eating my "healthy" grains every couple of hours…
  • My body seems odd. I can lose a size and pretty much stay the same weight. It just depends where you lose it from. I have a friend who lost around 40 pounds and she still wears the same pants -- because she lost it all in her upper body and her stomach (wears her pants around her hips, which hasn't lost anything). So if…
  • I run it, but will stop and do the leg extensions and stuff she does. Agreed it's not really something to get the sweat flowing after you're used to working out, but it's a great start for a lot of people.
  • I blame all the extra water I drink and my metabolism burning faster, but I just wanted to find an excuse for myself. Seems odd that I'm 70 lbs lighter and sweat a lot more than when I was fat.
  • You shouldn't feel "full". It took a long time, but I've learned to stop eating when I'm no longer hungry, not when I'm full. There's an important difference.
  • I have tiny little plastic containers that hold around 20 almonds perfectly. I've also got round ones that fit a hard boiled egg. Try dollar stores or paper bags for dry items.
  • Going through an interesting thing -- I don't really WANT to eat anymore. I mean, obviously I will because it keeps me alive and moving, but I no longer have that "I WANNNA EAAAAAT!" feeling. I just can tell from my stomach when it's time to eat and then I dutifully feed myself and then get on with my day. I think it's a…
  • Currently curling 20s (10 reps x 3) and I've got some 50 lb weights that I'm lifting. Want to get into deadlifting, but not sure how to do it, so need an instructor for that. I love lifting heavy things -- it makes me feel like I've accomplished so much more than mindlessly jogging for hours on end.
  • I'm the same way. I don't like them too much, so I used that as my "goal weight". Any more loss would leave my abs all showing, and I like the way I look with just a hint of abs and a flat stomach.
  • Yeah, I didn't understand that either. The most veggies I've ever eaten in my entire life is when I did Atkins years ago. How can you plan a meal with no side dish? Now that I've cut all wheat & grains out for October, again I'm eating more (in quanity and in different) veggies than I ever would have. Carbs are around the…
  • This thread is about a specific book, so I'm quoting the book. I guess I should have said "whole grain bread". "The study showed that the GI of white bread was 69, , while the GI of whole grain bread was 72 and Shredded Wheat cereal was 67, while that of sucrose (table sugar) was 59. Yes, the GI of whole grain bread is…
  • Loving Paleo workouts so much more than chronic cardio. Can't believe I'm lifting 50lb dumbbells. Got to work sprinting into my day more often, but this just feels so much more natural than jogging for long distances. Breakfast (as usual) - two hardboiled eggs, cream cheese and a piece of fruit (thinking grapes today --…
  • I went to the Loblaws flagship store in downtown Toronto and it wasn't there. The only other Loblaws I know of is near my parent's house and they went looking there for it (it's such a fancy looking store we figured they must have it), but sadly they didn't. We don't have Zehrs in Toronto, but maybe it's in the outskirts??…
