  • I would have prefered that she use the opportunity to explain the difficulties in losing weight (especially for a busy mom of 3) and challenge his notion that she's "unhealthy" simply based on her appearance. Not that I expected blood tests or confidential doctors notes up on the screen, but maybe just indicate that a…
  • Am cold all the time! Also, my hands have become super tiny and really vein-y. Wish I could gain a bit of weight on there and nowhere else! The only other place I have to complain about is that now my collarbones stick out -- kind of gross when I accidentally touch them.
  • Hooray!! Callback! Man, how long ago was that?
  • Good news? Most was likely water weight because of sodium. Water weight is stupid easy to lose. It's very unlikely that you consumed 10,500 calories MORE than you burned over such a short time. Up your calories to allow for the OCCASSIONAL treat. Treat, by definition, means once in while. Just remind yourself why you…
  • It's tough when you've gotten down to or close to your goal to keep going. I found that getting rid of EVERY SINGLE piece of clothing that are even a little big on me was a big motivation not to let myself slip. I hate shopping. I know that if I packed on 10lbs, I'd be hard pressed to fit in anything, so I know I have to…
  • Oh, yeah -- I went through that! I blamed that my skin had stretched and hadn't caught up with the weight loss. I compared it to having 10lbs of whatever in a sack built for 10lbs. Now take 2lbs out -- the stuff inside moves around. It's much better now
  • I've got to say that I disagree with the point of this article -- maybe they found the wrong examples because it sounds like BMI was perfect for the 2nd girl (if she hadn't tried to get to the lowest possible healthy weight), and for the first example, other than the age -- that was me. But I didn't give up. I've always…
  • You must have long legs! For me, 5 miles is closer to 15k steps (walking to and from work). I did a walking challenge at work and had to wear a pedometer for 3 months. Ended up averaging 25k steps a day. It's amazing how you'll find ways to get in extra steps when work pride is on the line!
  • I find I always lose weight if I have a few day break between workouts. I think it's the extra water weight that surrounds the muscles. I gain it back once I start working out again, so it all balances out.
  • When I started on MFP, those were my stats! (well, 157 SW!) I had lost around 50lbs on my own and needed help with the last few. "They" say it gets harder when we're older, but I like to prove "them" wrong.
  • Most of my weight loss was walking. You can see the pics in my profile. The black dress was the day I got married in Dec 2009 and the pink shirt was May 2011. Current pic was last month, but I've just been maintaining for the last year and a bit. I started around March 2010 and started off just cutting down portion sizes…
  • Same height as you, and 140 was my original goal, but I wasn't happy there, so I maintain around 128 and 133 (got down to 124 and it was just too thin for me -- and it made my knees hurt when I'd kneel!) Seems that your body either wants you to be thinner  or your calorie burn is higher than you thought -- likely…
  • The awesome thing about the internet is one is always able to find like minded people -- no matter how pathetic. I'm sure that "Ron Swanson" was able to google such sources.
  • I've found that people who don't put their real pictures and post tickers indicating zero weight loss are a) the first ones to offer advice b) always condescending
  • Sweet potatoes are yummy. Too bad they can't make bread from them, right? That would be awesome.
  • Nope. But I'm sure that you've googled a few lame sources that back up your point of view that no one cares about.
  • In other words, a small fraction of a percent of our existance.
  • What I said made no sense without the quote below.
  • Finances are insanely important. A lot of you adult relationships will depend on what you do now. 1) Banks are not your friend. Don't sign up for a credit card or an account for a t-shirt or whatever. Even though it may seem like a zillion years away, always think of your credit score. A mortgage with a bad credit score…
  • Number on a scale ain't no thang. Ditch the scale and go by the tape measure!
  • Yes, so many Cardiologists are considered "morons". I suppose you're far more qualified.
  • Gah! And not even that low cal (for those of us who can put them away!) Hubby made a FANTASTIC frozen marg tonight -- used fresh lime juice, ice, tequila and orange flavouring (plus a package of sweetener). Tastes like it should be 100x the calories!
  • Probably not great eating prepackaged food constantly, but I hate Galen Weston with a passion, so I might be biased against his stupid Blue Menu and his chicken strips.
  • Wheat Belly was a huge eye opener for me. Glad someone finally wrote a book explaining why wheat is NOT appropriate for our genetic make-up. And when the grain companies & farmers are heavily subsidized by the government, who is the one giving out research grants, it's not hard to understand why there are few researchers…
  • I eat a lot of the same things. Hasn't been a problem for me.
  • I'm maintaining at 125 and 5'5" and it's perfect for me. I might try to drop a couple when there's a vacation coming on because I know I'll gain it back when I'm away. I started off planning on 150, figuring my age and my body type would be perfect, but I wasn't satisfied until I got down to the 120s. If someone had told…
  • I didn't find that the 24 hour fast ever really "hurt". First time was weird, because I had just stopped the "eat every few hours" mindset, but I was fine. I'd usually do it after a real bender -- like the day after an all-you-can-eat buffet, so I had already consumed most of the next day's calories the day before anyways.…
  • I was one of those "ZOMG -- NO DON'T DO IT! YOU'LL STARVE AND YOUR METABOLISM WILL STOP!!!" when I had no information about it. So glad I didn't listen to myself! I hated eating every 3-4 hours. It drove me nuts and I was constantly hungry and thinking only about food all day long. Basically while I was still consuming a…
  • I love it. Even maintaining, I use it. It's an effective method of calorie cycling and it's fantastic to let you learn your body's triggers for actual hunger and for boredom eating.
  • Nothing! First meal is at noon -- around 5 hours after I wake up. Much rather save my calories for the evening.
