  • If you're eating Paleo, it's typical to NOT follow the "eat every few hours" mindset as it was very unlikely for cavemen to do so. Typically Paleo is more of a one or two larger meals and maybe a snack if you're feeling hungry. Carbs (especially grains) tend to make us hungrier, so if you've cut grains out and upped your…
  • Damn it! /cancels sauna appointment.
  • I found I was getting a little OCD counting calories regularly -- especially adding in exercise calories and the like. I rebelled and ate like garbage on weekends and then felt like garbage because my body wasn't sure how to handle all that anymore. Finally I stopped counting I feel much better and have been able to…
  • You weight 87 pounds at 5'10? I hate to comment on people's weight, but that seems extremely low.
  • My bartender friend says that's a diet coke and vodka (yuck!)
  • I had the opposite, and it was equally frustrating. I'd buy new pants and a week later I'd need new ones but my massive arms remained massive. Our bodies lose where they want and sadly we can't do anything about it!
  • Interesting -- there are 43 calories in 8 oz of coconut water. So there are 172 in the dreaded 32oz size. So eventually, wouldn't Bloomberg look at banning that?
  • 1pm to 9pm is my typical feeding window too. I love IF -- massive dinners rock!
  • This is what I do and have done 24 hour fasts (only water). It's taught me what actual hunger is and what mindless boredom eating is. Great for discipline and for making smart food choices. I'm sure people look at me weird when I say that it's not during my "eating window" but it also gives me a great excuse for why I…
  • Most people find MFPs numbers for carbs high and protein far too low. You have to figure it out what works for you. Personally I've never been able to lose consistantly with lots of carbs. If you want to add carbs without plates of pasta or bread, suggest fruit and starchy veggies like carrots.

  • I don't much believe the whole "8 cups" myth, but I like to drink lots of water anyways because then it's a) a non-calorie beverage and b) not eating but keeping my tummy full. Adding lemon/lime/orange/mint/etc is a good way to make it taste better if you're not a water fan. I love water though, so I'm happy to keep on…
  • Did you have a nearly 50k deficit in calories over those 3 days? If not, then it wasn't fat. I can gain and lose 5 pounds a day quite easily. It's water and possibly TOM (if applicable).
  • I walk a lot, but haven't really done a ton of "exercising" other than lifting weights, and that burns practically no calories. When I first started and was gun-ho, yes I did eat my exercise calories back. But now I figure I'm moderately active with my walking and other stuff we do, so I raised my calorie intake to close…
  • That's what I had done. I'm maintaining now so my calorie intake is higher and I have much more frequent "cheat" meals, but most days, I stay under 100g of carbs and around 1800 calories (it was closer to 1600 when I was still losing). Worked for me! :flowerforyou:
  • If by heart attack you mean, slipping on the ice and banging his head on the sidewalk in his 70s, then yes, he did.
  • I do sandwiches wrapped in a romaine lettuce leaf. I know it's not the same, but it does the trick. Besides, I'd rather have more meat/fillings instead of wasting calories on bread!
  • It's more like "Don't bring a Canadian to a basketball game". Now if that was hockey, he'd be into it.
  • Our office is. I'm in charge of it for my company -- what a great promotion! A little expensive (our company is covering most of it) but a lot of fun. The smack talk is already getting heated. This is our 2nd year in it. I had the most steps of our company last year, so I'm hoping to repeat. Walking to and from work really…
  • It sure is lucky that all us childfree people don't know anyone who has birthdays. There isn't a day goes by that I don't thank god that not a single person I know has a birthday ... or celebrates holidays .... or goes for drinks/apps after work .... or brings buckets of sweets into work ... or or or...
  • 100% agree. And what terrifies me is that my idea of eating healthy is pretty much in direct opposition to the government's idea of healthy. Are they going to ban my coconut oil that I love and insist I use frankenoils instead? What about my macadamia nuts -- they're a ridiculous number of calories for a small serving? I'm…
  • I did. I'm very muscular and had such massive arms and legs that I felt I'd never be a "tiny" girl. I always said that I was big boned and wouldn't be able to change that (obviously!). I decided that I just wanted to be healthier and not really care what the scale said, so just ate less of what I was eating and tried…
  • I'm in Toronto too! I usually drink Chill -- find it's pretty half decent tasting and good on calories. The Canadian in me though says drink something you truly love and just drink less of it! Have a big glass of water between pints -- every glass of beer then is like the first!
  • Depends what you like! We've been juicing fresh limes & lemons and mixing with tequila and blended ice -- so good! Almost like a marg, but less sweet. You might need a bit of honey at the beginning to get used to the sour. I think it'd work with vodka or gin. My go to (when I don't want to drink a lot) is fizzy water with…
  • It must get exhausting running to the gas station every morning to fill your car. Oh, do you just use the fuel that's left in your tank from the night before like those of us who don't eat breakfast do?
  • Our (Canadian) healthcare is publicly funded, so I see Daddy McGuinty (the Ontario Premier who has taken it upon himself to ban many, MANY things) jumping on this bandwagon quickly. I hate the idea of governments interfering with ANY aspect of business (I'm a Capitalist) and think this is a stupid idea that has no means of…
  • I find when I work out regularly (other than my long daily walks), I gain. I think it's water weight or something. I've found if anything on me hurts, the scale will increase.
  • I had massive arms and it took forever, but they're now at a point that I'm very happy with them. They are the first place I gain though and, of course, the last place I lose. My husband can't believe the difference. I used to have to get the doctor to use an add on for doing blood pressure because the regular band didn't…
  • That's my height and current weight, and I'm a 0. Have very small hips (34") so even when I was pushing 200lbs, I never wore any larger than a 14. My waist is 7 inches smaller than my hips, so I'll never be "curvy", but I wasn't when I was larger either!
  • Actually it should be the opposite of that since the lower heat point oils are the ones that quickly turn to Trans Fats whereas Coconut Oil has a higher heat point and therefore doesn't turn into a Trans Fat as easily as most oils/fats.
  • Nope. They're not as bad for you as some people say but they're not as important for you as others let on.
