  • Can't lose weight over 40? Pffffft! I'm quickly creeping up on 50, and can prove that all it takes is some patience, planning, and determination. You can do it!
  • Kill the sour cream (non-productive fat), and get guacamole instead (healthy fat). Also try your toppings on a salad instead of the burrito. You'll save over 200 calories... those tortillas are HUGE!! Here's what I normally get: Lettuce, either chicken or carnitas, black beans (drained -- hate them soggy), corn, cheese,…
  • While your intentions are good, unfortunately, you can't make others change their self-destructive behavior. All you can do, is change your own life and attitudes. No one wants to go to the gym with you, go without them. Your mom is cooking with lots of butter (btw, a little won't hurt you), cook for yourself. Lead by…
  • Trader Joe's beef jerkey. I keep it in my desk for my 4 pm pre-gym protein snack. Lowest sodium beef jerkey that I've found, so far (and it tastes good).
  • I'm the weirdo dancing on the stationary bike WHILE doing high speed peddling.... and mouthing the words at the same time. BTW, my mascara is clumped and run down to my nose from the massive sweat, but I won't notice and clean it up until I head to the weights, and catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror. At that point, I…
  • They used to.... but then my workout clothes got too big. And then I wore out my sneakers. And then I didn't care anymore.
  • I used to wear mine, but I've lost a lot of weight now, and the ring falls off (so does my engagement ring). My rings now sit in my jewelry box. When I finish losing all my weight, I'll get them resized. It costs too much to get them sized repeatedly.
  • What everyone said already... and stop skipping breakfast!
  • Doesn't look healthy to me. Too many processed carbs (the bread and pasta), not enough protein, fruits and veggies. You need to cover all of your body's nutrient needs, not just the simple calorie count. If you're working out, you need protein for muscle replenishment.
  • 290 calories is fine. It's okay to go over once in a while, as it confuses your body a smidge. Just don't do it every day. Just say to yourself... "it's OKAY".
  • This is kind of weird, but lately, I've been doing pushups against the counter top in the office kitchen while waiting for my coffee to heat up in the microwave. Don't know why I'm doing them, but I can't seem to stop.
  • I don't hate bread... i LOVE bread. But hamburger buns are crap. If I'm gonna blow carbs and calories on bread, gimme a nice sourdough, or a crusty french bread. I won't waste my precious calories on hamburger buns (or even kaiser buns).
  • I just have the hot chocolate. One packet of Swiss Miss at 110 cals won't kill me, and then I don't want the donuts, cake, cookies, pizza, etc., that show up in my office kitchen. BTW, you CAN have a cheeseburger, just pitch the bread. It's one of my go-to foods when I'm on business trips. Now... what the heck is a…
  • As soon as I get on the stationary bike at the gym for my 30-45 minute warm-up, I turn on the HRM. Warm-ups definitely count. HRM stays on through the entire workout (boxing and weight lifting). I normally do stretching and some light yoga as a cool-down, and the HRM is still on. I turn it off as I head to the locker room.…
  • Remember, when you get tired of walking, there are LOTS of other activities that you can do. So, always look for new things to liven up your workout. I found walking to be boring after a couple of weeks.
  • You might want to open your food diary.
  • My favorite vegetarian dish is low calorie and super easy to make. I'm going to assume that you eat dairy since you'll occasionally eat chicken, and didn't say vegan. Eggplant parmesan Ingredients: 1 whole eggplant 1 jar of favorite tomato sauce 1 package of sliced mozzerella cheese Preheat oven to 400 deg F. Wash and cut…
  • Turkey is lower on sodium. Ham and turkey are pretty close on the calorie counts (I eat one or the other for lunch every day). Go to town on the green beans if they're fresh, (lots of sodium in canned green beans). Corn is a starchy veggie, so I'd recommend going light on that. Now, cornbread dressing or rolls.... It's…
  • My observations. You're consuming an awful lot of sodium, that's not being tracked properly. No way that 30 Special K SEA SALT crackers have 0 mg of sodium -- it's got SALT in the danged name. Check the box against what's showing up in your log and make the appropriate corrections to the database (you can edit an incorrect…
  • Turkey is your friend... cheese covered things (broccoli casserole) is NOT your friend. Just aim for the healthier foods, and if there are only fattening items on the table, go for just a taste... not a full serving of the less-healthy foods. Fill up on the turkey.
  • First, STOP WEARING THE HEELS! You're shortening the calf muscle and promoting atrophy. A pulled muscle needs to heal. There's nothing that can be done to accelerate the healing process, since your body will heal at it's own pace. However, you can do some mild things that will help alleviate the pain/discomfort. When I…
  • I snorted.
  • Soz... double posted.
  • I never feel restricted or deprived. I've now learned to eat in moderation, instead of cleaning my plate. The only restriction that I feel, is when we're eating out. Since I now measure my rice, noodles and tortilla chips, we don't go out for Mexican, Italian or Chinese food anymore (okay.... the only decent Chinese place…
  • Comment said to my trainer about me: "Does she ever stop?" Trainer's response: "Not until I tell her to"
  • My favorite comment at the gym: "How do you bend like that?!?!" (said to me while sitting on the floor, legs spread out, nose was touching the mat).
  • Scales vary, as we all know. I'd log the weight from the new scale, with a note to yourself in your food diary about the scale change, and then just keep going.
  • Height and body frame size play a large part in what size clothing you'll fit into. Right now, I'm in the low 270s. My tops are 14/16 and pants are 18. BUT I'm 5'9" with a large frame (size 11.5 shoe). At my heaviest I was a little over 390 and wore a size 24/26 top and bottom. When I was at my smallest (age 24) I weighed…
  • I don't care for it. I'm at the gym to work out and sweat, not to be made uncomfortable by someone hitting on me. Now I have to go to efforts to avoid that person.
  • This is a very common ailment for people that have gone on a very low fat diet. If your fat intake drops too low, you don't have enough in your system to push things through. Check your fat levels in your diary, and if necessary, think about increasing your fat intake. Please note, I'm not a doctor... I'm just a fellow…
