  • Not sure what time you were walking in the mall, but our mall opens it's doors before the stores open and there a quite a few people walking laps. It's mostly retired people and moms pushing strollers:) It's something to check out if it was something you were enjoying. I used to do it when my youngest was a baby. Too cold…
  • Do you have On Demand with your cable? They have a lot of free exercise videos and you can see what you like. They don't stay forever and some are a shortened version, but good to try out or mix things up when you get bored. Level 1 of Jillian's 30 Day Shred is on there now.
  • When I used to take classes I always felt motivated by seeing people with more weight to lose than me. I never said anything cause I didn't know exactly how to say, "Wow! I think it's awesome that you signed up for this class and are taking control of your weight. Keep going, don't give up!" That might offend some people.…
  • I just got her new Extreme timesaver workout. It's 30 minutes and I was dying at the end, great workout. I thought Jillian was tough! Not sure on the calorie burn since I don't have a heart rate monitor. I like how fast paced the workout was, time flew.
  • Try to find some foods that will fill you up to eat before you go. For me it's an apple and cottage cheese. I eat that before we leave, then when we get there, I'm not all that hungry and won't over do it. I can't go somewhere hungry or I go crazy! I also offer to bring skinny margaritas.
  • If you have to walk for parts of your 5K, hey, at least you are out there doing it! How many people are sitting on a couch somewhere? How many people lack the courage/motivation to even sign up or train for it? No shame in walking a little bit! Also it'll give you a base time and you can make your next goal to finish the…
  • Great questions, I am finishing Shred and was wondering the same thing! I love the circuit style that combines strength and cardio but don't want to shell out $100+ on Chelene. I looked at Jackie Warner's Xtreme Time Saver on Amazon - looks like sort of the same deal, but 30 minutes. Has anyone tried that yet? Thoughts?
  • After almost 3 years on MFP and weighing in each week, I have seen my pattern. When I'm working on weight loss, my body will lose nothing that week and usually 2 lbs the next week even though I'm set up to lose one pound a week. I found it very helpful to track it. Now I know it's a pattern for my body and it doesn't…
  • I found it easiest to start with just watching calories. After I felt comfortable with that (2 years), I started trying to make my protein goal each day with food choices. My carbs and sugars naturally went down when I started this.
  • I love Healthy Cooking Magazine - it's by Taste of Home.
  • Don't feel bad. It took me about a month to be able to do that roll-up when I started pilates. Try bending your knees like a sit-up, then you can pull behind your knees to help if needed, then work to not pull yourself at all, then get to the legs flat part. Good luck! Pilates did wonders for my core strength. I just…
  • I like to workout right after I get out of bed with no breakfast, then I eat after. This was when I did 30 day shred or elliptical. But I found I had to have something if I run, so then I have a nutrigrain bar. When I finish my run I have a glass of skim chocolate milk. Like someone said, google it. It's supposed to be the…
  • Try having someone take a picture of you. It may help you "see" your 31 pound weight-loss. I lost 20 to reach my goal weight (It took 5 months and I still work to maintain) and I honestly can't see it in the mirror that much. I am always surprised when I see photos because it doesn't look right to me! My husband thinks I'm…
  • www.mapmyrun.com is a great site too to figure our your mileage.

  • A half-cup of 1% cottage cheese has 13 g of protein and only 80 calories.
  • Definately keep your english muffins and tortillas in the fridge. Then pop the tortilla in the microwave to warm it a bit.
  • Spend the $ to buy good stuff at the health food store. They have made a huge difference for me; I didn't know I was supposed to feel this good all the time! The cheap generic ones at Walgreens made me feel sick and gassy.
  • Pilates is awesome! I like the DVD's by Rael Isacowitz. Very calming and relaxing, but I sure feel it the next day. He has a 3 pack, but I would suggest you skip the first one and get System 17. With no pilates experience and weak abs, I just did what I could do until I could do all the moves and it worked for me. Do you…
  • Pilates is great for toning and you are on a mat most of the time. However I don't think it does much for calorie burn.
  • I run and do pilates and I'm starting to see abs. Pilates is great for your core. My husband has been amazed and now he's doing my pilates DVD too. Although I'm thinking the mommy pooch might never be completely gone unless we win the lotto and I can do surgery; but I guess you won't ever have to worry abou that!
  • My advice is don't try to force any food because you will never win a power struggle with a toddler! My youngest wouldn't eat any veggies, but I made some every night and put a few on his plate without saying anything. After a few months of this (I try not to think of the waste!) he tried some and now eats them. The key is…
  • I get up at 6 every week day morning to work out before my husband has to leave for work (I'm a part-time teacher, so off now). Weekends I sleep in until 7, haha! This is the only way it works for me. Too busy evenings and have too many other things to get done after kids are in bed. I like to run or walk outside, so…
  • I love my Taste of Home Healthy Cooking magazines. At least half of what I make are from them. It's regular food and most of the ingredients are things I have hear of! I also love my Family Circle Healthy Home-Style Cooking. I think my grandma ordered it or it came with her magazine subscription. Anyway she gave it to me…
  • Just be careful about your milk supply. I cut calories when my last baby was 6 months old and had no problems, but I know some people have a decrease in their supply when they cut calories and baby is exclusively nursing. I'd say don't worry about it if your baby seems to be getting enough. And if you are exercising…
  • I have to exercise in the early morning or I will have all sorts of excuses why I can't do it or something will come up with the kids and I run out of time or I'm just too wiped out at the end of the day. I set out all my workout clothes in the bathroom so I can be moving in about 5-10 minutes after getting out of bed. If…
  • I've been using Rael Isacowitz - System 17. It's his intermediate one of a 3-disc set. The first one was way too easy and I didn't have any pilates experience at all. It is a very simple set and music but more "professional" than some cheesy stuff I've seen. There is no fluff or annoyingly perky people! He's easy to follow…
  • I just got these exact shoes about a month ago for much more $ and they are worth every cent! Best shoes I've ever had!

  • A flat-out flat wrap for 100 cals. Then add turkey and ham deli meat, any veggies I have on hand, broccoli slaw, maybe some apple, a sprikle of cheddar and low-cal italian dressing. Very delish and easily changed up. It usually always ends up under 300 cal. The flat-out flat wraps are huge and also make good pizza crusts.
  • It's not a cookbook, but I get Taste of Home Healthy Cooking magazine (6 per year) and most of our meals are from it. They have all sorts of recipies; crockpot, 30 min., snacks, kids stuff. I really like that they take good comfort food and slim it down. Most of the time we can't tell it's a low-cal version.
