  • Spring break starts next week--and I'm going to Disneyland! I'm coming from raining Oregon, so sometime tomorrow I need to find my shorts and figure out if they still fit!
  • You are way ahead of me--you've lost a lot more weight! Go You! Happy Valentine's Day, teachers! Did we survive the afternoon party drama? Did we throw away the boxes of cheap chocolate when the children weren't looking. They are NOT worth the calories, and you know it!
  • I'm a Sherlock Holmes fan.
  • Happy Valentine's Day *carefully measuring out my 5 ounces of pinot grigio*
  • Phase One: Drink a cup of hot tea. Wait 20 minutes. Phase Two: Eat an apple. Wait 20 minutes. Phase Three: Eat a bag of 100 calorie popcorn. I never make it past phase 3--by then I'm not hungry anymore.
  • I can't give up peanut butter. My evening splurge (if I have the calories) is 2 tablespoons of peanut butter and 3 Lindor Truffles.
  • 2 pounds in two weeks sounds just fine to me. That's a healthy way to lose weight and keep it off. I'm not looking forward to the scale tomorrow either, but that's because I ate two entire bags of sweet potato chips this week.
  • If you have the calories, eat the chicken--enjoy it. Don't deprive yourself of treats if you are under calories. I like to treat myself with a dessert of 2 tablespoons of peanut butter and 3 Lindor Chocolate balls some nights--total craving killer.
  • I actually try to be about 200 calories under my goal, but I don't stress it. I feel that as long as I'm over 1250 (starvation mode), if I'm not hungry, I don't worry about it.
  • Ahh. But did you enjoy the burger? If so, it was worth it. Smile and move on.
  • I didn't overeat or mindlessly stuff my face during Superbowl. In fact, I don't eat without thinking anymore.
  • My pants starting getting too tight, and I can't afford to buy new ones. And I bet my parents $100 I could lose 20 pounds before they did. Working on my food diary and reading posts on mfp has really helped me stay motivated.
  • I had a look at your food diary--I can see how working at a restaurant would make it really hard for you. At least you have an active job. I think you are very brave for trying to lose weight, considering all the other things you are going through. If you feel like you are a failure every day because you overdo your food…
  • How did we do, folks? I was not promoting deprivation as much as moderation for me--if I'm left alone with a jar of cheese dip and a bag of chips, I'm toast. My goal was to not overdo it--so I had to count calories. I clocked in at only 110 calories over my daily limit. I enjoyed a moderate portion of bbq ribs, a handful…
  • Middle School science here, too. Sounds like folks are having a rough weekend. Hang in there, teachers!
  • If you work long hours and are on a budget, you absolutely must have a crockpot! I don't know if they use a lot of energy or not, but mine is absolutely essential. I (literally) throw meat and vegetables into my crockpot in the morning, while the coffee is brewing and plug that sucker in. When I get done with work, I am…
  • Pee before your first class of the day. Pee at lunch. Pee at your planning period. Watch the coffee intake. Eventually, you will develop a teacher's 'bladder of steel'
  • I tried a new chicken and shrimp jambalaya recipe tonight--used the crock pot--only 211 calories per serving. 'Course, I forgot that I don't have any chili powder in the house, so it's a bit bland. Has chicken, broth, tomato, tomato paste, onion, celery, salt and pepper that cooked all day. Then I just added brown rice,…
  • Yes! Measure your wine! I have a handblown extra large wine glass that can hold up to 14 ounces of wine. Which I do not use anymore. Unless it is a REALLY bad day.
  • There is no way I'm giving up white wine, especially after a stressful day, or before dinner with friends. I keep a measuring cup next to the wine glasses and very carefully measure out my 5 ounces of wine (wine glass sizes can be deceiving). I only allow it when I have the calories to spare. I'm trying to limit my self to…
  • I don't have cheat days, I have cheat moments--if I am going to have a meal that is over in calories (BLT with grilled bleu cheese bread this Saturday for lunch, and a glass of wine), I make sure I balance it out the rest of the day. And I don't do it more than once a week. I may be over calories a little on that…
  • If you already have a pretty active workday, the exercise might be more about stress relief than weight-loss. I'm a full-time teacher and on my feet all day, plus night classes two nights a week, so I don't have a lot of time to exercise. I try for a brisk 20 minute walk around the block three nights a week while dinner is…
  • I hate to grade papers. Why didn't I become a plumber instead? Better money and job satisfaction, I'm sure. *grading 8th grade tests on thermodynamics--takes at least two hours. ARRRGGGHHHH!
  • Happy Saturday, teachers. I'm going to work very hard this weekend at NOT checking my work email for messages from parents. I'm not at work!
  • I make sure I save calories on my food plan for a glass of white wine in the evening. I loves me a glass of wine! But I very carefully measure out exactly 5 ounces in a measuring cup before I pour it in the wine glass. (Wine glass sizes can be deceiving.) It looks weird, but it works for me.
  • I've been exactly the same way. The first week of the diet, staying at my calorie limit was torture--I felt like I had to eat every twenty minutes and I thought I was starving. Now it's been about 3 weeks, and I'm full sooner. I don't feel the need to snack, and I'm full even though I'm way under my calorie limit. I hope…
  • I started walking my dog again--at least 20 minutes of brisk walking, even though it is winter and i hate the cold.
  • I blew it. I went to Burgerville last night after working a ten hour day. I had milk, a double cheeseburger (no special sauce) and some yukon gold waffle potatoes. I had been craving a cheeseburger for days! That was the first cheeseburger I'd eaten in 25 days, thanks to this challenge. It was worth every calorie. But I…
  • I'm in the same boat today--I've only eaten about 1000 calories, and exercised, so I'm way short, but also full. I'm enjoying the fact that in the last three weeks my stomach seems to have shrunk, and I'm not hungry all the time. I also have learned that it's okay to be hungry half an hour before a meal. I'm also learning…
  • Good Job, jaileeh! Giving up the chocolate is hard. I keep my chocolate in the freezer, where I'm most likely to forget about it. At the last staff meeting, when pretzels were available for snacks, I actually read the calorie information on the bag and carefully counted out 18 pretzels for myself. The person in line behind…
