  • Welcome! You will find that the community here is very supportive and that there are a lot of knowledgeable people here to assist you in your journey. Good luck and again, welcome!
  • Nearly 77 pounds lost, 28.5% of my starting weight lost so far. Starting BMI of 37.7, currently 26.9 Down to 193lbs from 270.
  • Welcome to all of the newcomers! I started using MFP to track my caloric intake about 9 months ago, since that time I've taken off close to 60 pounds (I lost a bit before I joined here, 270 was my highest recorded weight). I recently completed the C25K program and am currently making my way through for a second round with…
  • I restarted the C25K program this morning at W1D1 to work on my speed. For the running portions I ran as fast as I could and dropped to a slow jog for the walking portions. All I can say is it's one hell of a workout and one minute doesn't seem to be any time at all compared to the first time through. For those of…
  • Forgot the link to the low sodium fish sauce from Thai Kitchen. http://www.worldpantry.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prmenbr=1279010&prrfnbr=1351139
  • There really is no substitute for fish sauce of which I am aware. I suppose you could substitute soy sauce, but that isn't going to lower the sodium content much if at all. There are lowered sodium brands of fish sauce which claim to have 25% less sodium. Thai Kitchen makes one. I don't really concern myself with the…
  • According to the recipe calculator here at MFP 4 servings works out to about 675 calories or so, or about 170 calories per serving without the wrap (Lettuce, flour tortilla, etc.)
  • Just a little update from me. Since graduating I've been trying to pick up my pace a bit while sticking to three 30 minute runs a week. Yesterday I covered 3.8 miles in the alloted 30 minutes. I also managed my fastest mile time yet at 8 minutes 50 seoconds. Two new records for me. Keep running! You can do it!
  • Congratulations Kelly_a! Way to go! The rest of you still working your way through the program, keep at it! If I can start running again at 42 after dropping in excess of 70 pounds and make it through then so can you! I remember week 1, wondering how long could a minute possibly be, maybe the guy who made the podcast fell…
  • I graduated the C25K program but still run 3 miles 3 times a week, do the 30 day shred two days a week, and run the stairs (20 flights X2) one day a week. I take one day off with no scheduled exercise, other than pushing my lawn mower around the yard for an hour.
  • She has, although her goals are much more modest than mine (She wasn't nearly as overweight as I was). We've both made major lifestyle changes for the better.
  • Congratulations! Keep it up! I'm working on upping my speed now too. I ran an 8 minute mile this morning then finished out the other two miles at a 10 minute per mile pace.
  • I buy the "Mission" brand small fajita wraps. Mostly because they're easy to account for at 100 calories each and tasty. I fill them with some shredded 2% mexican four cheese blend, some grilled chicken breast, tomatoes marinated with cilantro and chipotle hot sauce, and a teaspoon of fat free sour cream. Two of those…
  • As others have said, don't worry so much about getting in your workout times at first. When I started my weight loss journey in November of last year at 270 lbs I wasn't able to exercise much at all. I concentrated on logging everything I ate, no matter how small the portion, every day. It's developed into a habit that has…
  • I've decided to hold off on continuing to the gateway to 8K program for now and instead work on speeding up my runs. I'm going to stick with the 30 minute final run time but try to extend the distance I run. I'm also now doing the 30 day shred 3 days a week along with running 3 days a week. I don't have any races lined up…
  • That's my final goal (for now, we'll see how I feel when I hit 180lbs). I'm at almost 75lbs lost now since November of last year. You can do it! Don't get discouraged.
  • Well the day has come. Couch-2-5K Graduation Day! I finished W9D3 today with a respectable 1/4 mile warmup walk, a 3.2 mile run (just over a 5K) in 30 minutes, and a 1/4 mile cooldown walk. All of this on a sweltering 82F ultra humid Florida morning! It's celebration time! For those of you still working on the program,…
  • That's true, but the two off days follow my two graveyard shifts. I really can't see myself working out after pulling a 10 hour all nighter, so I opt for stair climbing on those nights. I run up and back down 20 flights twice per night on those days,
  • I finished Week 9 Day 2 this morning. Almost graduation day! I run first thing after I get up in the mornings. I don't eat anything prior to my run, just drink about 8oz of water and head out. Breakfast for me is after I finish my exercise routine in the mornings. It's the way we always did it in the Army, old habits die…
  • When I had a problem with keeping up I just repeated the entire week. The final day of week four was tougher for me than I would have liked so I did that week over again the next week and then proceeded from there. I'm doing week 9 day 2 tomorrow morning. Maybe you just had an off day? Try for day 3, if you can't make it…
  • I just started today with level 1 and 5lb weights. I'm only planning on doing his two days a week on the days between my C25K runs. Because only really working out three days a week doesn't seem like enough even though I'm still losing anywhere from 1.5 to 2 lbs per week. My new schedule: C25K: Wednesday, Friday, and…
  • I started doing 30 Day Shred this morning for my off days between C25K runs. My new schedule: C25K: Wednesday, Friday, Sunday 30 Day Shred: Thursday and Saturday Recovery day (no workout): Mondays and Tuesdays I'd like to do three days of each but my schedule on Monday and Tuesday makes it near impossible to gt in a eral…
  • This is my before picture taken November 2009. I was about 270 at the time, maybe 275. I was actively avoiding scales and mirrors at the time. And this is my last progress picture taken 10 days ago just after a 5K run, weight in this picture is 197.
  • To ward off shin splits make sure you're not overextending (stepping out too far ahead) and coming down on your heel. There are a few videos on youtube that explain the ChiRunning method meant to minimize impact. It helped me a lot.
  • It's a great program. I did repeat week 4 when the final run was harder to get through than I thought it should be. Overall I'm very impressed with my progress, in just 4 short weeks I went from being unable to run for 10 minutes at a time to running for a full 30 mins and finishing more than a 5K. Big thumbs up!
  • Where I run if it weren't for my iPod all I would hear would be the sounds of cars going by. I wish I had a nice peaceful place to run that wasn't a 20 minute drive from home. Finished W9D1 this morning and covered a total of 3.8 miles including the 5 minute warm up and cool down walks.
  • Throughtout my journey I've averaged about 1.5 pounds per week, or about 6 pounds lost per month. Sometimes a little more. I think my best month was about 12 pounds, but I was restricting my calories a little too much and backed off to maintain a healthy rate of loss. You didn't put all of the weight you want to lose on…
  • Tomorrow morning is Week 9 day 1 for me. Almost graduation time!
  • I don't really pay much attention to those numbers so long as my total caloric intake are at or under my goal for the day. I try to maintain a good balance of foods throughout the day and stay away from empty calorie foods and drinks. The only daily totals I watch other than calories are cholesterol (especially saturated),…
  • Podrunner has followups to the C25K program located here: http://www.djsteveboy.com/intervals.html They have a gateway to 8K and a Freeway to 10K program to extend your training if you want to keep going with a structured program.
