I have been frustrated in getting more fiber in my diet as well. I have pretty much stopped drinking juice and eating the whole fruit instead. My search for a good whole wheat or whole grain bread is ongoing. I was told that bread should have 4 grams of fiber but I have yet to find one that has more than 2 grams. Also, at…

I also love oatmeal, I prefer to eat either the old fashioned rolled oats or steel cut oats as they have more texture. I have found many recipes for overnight oatmeal, summer oatmeal, and slow cooker oatmeal. They usually make enough for a week or more of breakfasts. If I am cooking rolled oats I will cook with low-fat…

86 this is really good for me, it's been a bit of a roller coaster the last few months.

I feel you "pain". I, too, have recently gotten back on track. My husband and I have been going through a rough patch which caused me to be depressed, top that off with vacation which ended badly, they holidays, etc. With the new year I am struggling to get back on track. I have finally lost some of what I gained and that…

Butter, no margarine. Just like sugar, honey, or any other supposed "bad" food. If you eat it within your daily allowance of calories it will not prevent you from losing weight. I choose to eat butter because of the taste, I have reduced the amount of butter I eat, mostly on toast or having an occasional fried egg. I…

While drinking diet soda may not directly impede weight loss, there have been many studies that show drinking diet soda contributes to the body continuing to crave sweet things, specifically sugar. As to the person that said count the number of obese people driving through McD's and ordering diet soda, what else are they…

The first few days after I started I felt hungry all the time. I think I gradually got use to the "new" way of eating and I don't have that issue as much any more. Now it's days were I'm not hungry at all and then days when I wake up hungry and feel hungry all day. That doesn't happen often though. I found if I slowed down…

A lot of fiber does cause constipation in some people. You may increase the water you drink instead of the juice. Are you eating soluble or insoluble fiber, that will make a difference as well.

It would be so much easier if he would let me do more of the cooking. He will eat most of what I fix, I just have to adjust the veggies used to suit his taste or disguise them so he doesn't know they are there. With him taking over the cooking and me taking smaller portions we end up with a refrigerator full of leftovers…

There is a spray dressing, I know Safeway has a line. It's only 10 calories for 10 sprays and comes in various flavors. I have used the trick of dipping my fork into the dressing, it's a great way to cut down the amount used and still get the flavor. Plain lemon juice is another option.

I have told him that I need to control the amount of carbs I eat to keep my bg in control. He has known many people in his family and friends who have had complications of diabetes. He is still of the mind set that you get diabetes because you eat a lot of candy or sugary foods. I have tried to explain to him that "sugar"…

Are you serious with the women are below you? That might be your problem, not your looks.

Certainly you can eat anything you want as long as it fits within your daily allowance. If I'm making burgers at home I will either get a whole wheat bun and only have half or use a sandwich slender to cut the calories a bit. Mustard, pickles, onions, tomatoes, and lettuce don't add a lot of calories and there are lower…

I have been overweight the entire time I have known my husband, he is my second so it's only been about 8 years. When I was diagnosed with diabetes and started on insulin I made the decision to lose weight to be more healthy, I want to have a long life with him, my children, and now my grandchildren. I told him my doctor…

I just read an article that recommended Fage 2% as one of the best Greek yogurts. I haven't tried it yet myself. I add a teaspoon of honey, maple syrup, or a bit of jam to my Greek yogurt. It does a few calories but not as much as you would think. Adding fresh or frozen unsweented fruit is good as well.

I think divorce or kicking him in the nuts is a little extreme. Maybe next time just tell him to deal with the boiling pasta water and/or the 3 yr old. At 61 I have come to the conclusion that men are pretty dense at times.

I have done several different things. I make a museli, basically 2 cups oatmeal with 1 cup lowfat or nonfat milk. I add about 1 tablespoon of honey, a tablespoon or two of cinnamon, about 1/4 cup chopped nuts. Put it in the refrigerator over night. It lasts me 5 days. In the morning I add some yogurt. You can also add some…

Snowing again today. I was hoping they would close the campus but it's not looking good. Guess I'll have to go to work anyway!

If I know where I might be eating I check their website for nutritional information. That way you can "arm" yourself with some knowledge ahead of time. If I don't know or the information isn't available, I try to stick with salads, veggies, and lean meats. The whole point of a "girls weekend" is to have fun so don't sweat…

Try diluting the vinegar in herbal tea or other flavored water. It mitigates the taste somewhat. I will try checking my BG and see if this had the same affect.

Oatmeal is a good option, not the instant or quick but old fashion rolled oats or steel cut.

String cheese or other cheese sticks, mini babybel cheeses, cut up apples, cucumbers, celery, carrots, snap peas, almonds or other 100 calorie packs of nuts. jerky, hummus with the veggies, 100 calorie pack of guacamole or hummus with veggies.

I suppose I do have "separate" food, not necessarily a separate section in the refrigerator. My husband is a very picky eater, won't eat most fruits or vegetables, limited amounts of cheese, and prefers everything fried. I do have a small frig at work where I can keep healthy snack and lunches and I do buy vegetables and…

I think we all have days like this. I seem to have the opposite problem, at times I don't feel like eating anything.

I know that there have been times when I crave chocolate, I don't keep it in the house. I have been known to drive to the store and walk up and down the candy aisle for several minutes just to leave the store with nothing. I think the smell satisfied my craving. Other times I find it is better to eat a small portion of…

Since I don't like the texture of pears I would probably chose the Kit Kat although there are other fruits I would pick first. I agree with one of the earlier posters, sugar in and of itself is not "bad" I'll take sugar, honey, etc over artificial sweeteners any day. But, that said, like anything else it needs to be eaten…

Potatoes have gotten a bad rap. By themselves they are not that high in calories and are healthy. It's not until you fry them or cover them with sour cream, bacon, cheese, and the kitchen sink that they are less than healthy.

Calories and serving size and since I am diabetic I look at the amount of carbs, fiber, and sugar.

A nice dessert that looks really fancy is chocolate covered strawberries. It sounds very decadent but is fairly low in calories. One strawberry is about 30 calories. You can always make a main course salad, lots of veggies and just a few slices of beef, shrimp, or other seafood and perhaps some crunchy veggies with a low…
