I have looked up low carb snacks and found that boiled eggs, Greek yogurt with berries, or cottage cheese with fruit or sunflower seeds are good high protein low carb snacks. Celery with peanut butter is another good option as well as avocado on whole grain toast. Other than nuts, I haven't found any good commercial snack…

I have been living with Type 2 for some time now, sometimes more successfully, sometimes not. I found when I was first diagnosed I cut out all sweets, switched from white bread to whole grain bread, avoided pasta and potatoes. Once I got my A1C to a more 'normal' level I slowly added back a few things. I did see a…

I like a variety of different teas, mostly black teas but some herbal I fusions. I like the Twinings brand English ot Irish breakfast, Earl Grey, or Lady Grey teas. The breakfast teas I take honey and a little milk, the others ho ey and lemon. I like Chai tea in the winter, made from tea bags with a little honey and milk,…

The only fish I can eat is tuna made into tuna salad. To me it tastes like swampy water smells. I don't like fresh tomatoes or raw onion, cooked is fine. Other foods are more a texture thing like Cream of Wheat or grits.

I have been trying to increase the amount of protein in my diet. I am really disappointed in some things that are touted as being high protein, like hummus and peanut butter. Even when I have a breakfast of 1 egg with turkey sausage it is less protein I would like.

I had my A1C check this morning and am officially OFF insulin! Three months ago I was moved from 30 units a day to 10 and now to 0! Losing weight really makes a difference!

I had an A1C check this morning and am now officially OFF insulin. Three months ago my insulin dosage was dropped from 30 units a day to 10, now I am injection free!

My thyroid was removed when I was 39. I have slowly, very slowly lost about 40 pounds over the years. The last year or two I have been more serious about it and tried to follow MFP, with some slip ups. I have lost another 27 lbs over the last 6 months but have started a program with a functional physician with a very…

The last 6 weeks on my weight lost journey has been exceptional! I have lost 20 lbs and really gotten a kick start. I'm that much closer to my goal! I'm really excited because my son is getting married this July, a few days after my anniversary, and my granddaughters are going to be in the wedding as flower girls.

I worked at Starbucks for a while when the Atkins diet was all the rage. People would come in wanting the "diet" drink--lattes made with heavy cream. Not so much a diet drink to my way of thinking! I don't drink coffee but I do add milk to my tea, usually fat free or 1%. I have found I don't like the taste when I add cream…

This is my opinion and from what others have said I think it is true. Most people are "dieting" because they want to lose weight for a specific reason--getting married, class reunion, etc. Once they have lost the 5, 10, 15 pounds they feel they are "finished" and go back to the same way of eating that got them overweight…

Sure, let's charge overweight people more for their insurance, and while we are at it let's add smokers, heavy drinkers, those with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or any congenital health condition. High cost has not deterred people from continuing to drink or smoke, what makes you think that the high cost of…

I prefer butter as it has a much better flavor and I don't like margarine as it is too artificial for me. I use less butter than I use to but definitely on toast!

I stopped buying Girl Scout cookies, not so much because of the temptation but because of the cost. I use to be a Girl Scout leader and the cookie sales was the most difficult thing for the girls to do and the troops received very little money from their efforts. I can get a package of cookies at the grocery store that is…

I didn't know there was a "real food"diet. I am in the process of losing weight but my goal is to be more healthy, not necessarily to meet a "number" goal. I don't like artificial sweeteners so I use real sugar, honey, etc. in small amounts. I have tried to cut back on the more processed foods and include more fruits and…

If the thought is to decrease the use of junk food, look how "well" that has worked with tobacco and alcohol. No I do not think "junk food" should be taxed. Each person has a responsibility to themselves to chose what they want to eat. We don't need a nanny state telling us what or what not to consume. It is also not the…

I stopped drinking sodas years ago as a way of cutting out extra sugars. I rarely kept it in the house, only ordered it when I went out to eat. I never liked the taste of diet soda so that has never been an issue. I substituted ice tea for soda, and I have always drunk a lot of water, growing up it was the standard at…

A basic quiche recipe is 4-5 large eggs to 1 can evaporated milk. You can add what ever seasonings you like, I usually add salt, pepper, parsley, and a dash of nutmeg. To make it in a muffin pan just put the pie crust in the cups and layer in whatever ingredients you like, bacon, sausage, ham, onion, broccoli, etc., a…

I'm with you, I hate working out. I have tried to increase my exercise in various ways though. I have found a water exercise class that I enjoy that meets twice a week for an hour. If I can get there and changed early enough I can usually get in an extra 10 to 20 minutes of water walking before the class starts. I will…

You can find many different daily menus online but you will have to adapt them to your likes, dislikes, etc. I find it hard to plan beyond lunch as I have additional people to consider for the evening meals as well as weekends and holidays.

Bananas are great for breakfast, it's my favorite way to eat cereal the few times I have cereal. They are high in potassium which is something that can be lacking on a reduced calorie diet.
-
I eat the whole egg as I think egg white alone is tasteless and rubbery. The yolk has all the flavor and most of the nutrition and doesn't add that many additional calories.

Just saw Hidden Figures this weekend. Wonderful movie. Highly recommend!

I have breakfast but not as soon as I jump out of bed. I take a medication that does not allow me to eat for at least an hour after take it. I have a microwave at work so I have found many things that I can eat at my desk. I try to have a breakfast of between 300 and 350 calories, sometimes a little more. Even eating…

I find looking on the internet a big help. It is easier if you are looking for a specific food type, example: chicken, breakfast, low calorie snacks, etc. I do check to make sure the recipes I find have nutritional information include, not all do. Then it is a process of weeding through and finding something you might…

This is a result of Michelle Obama's "healthy lunch" kick. She dictated what is healthy or not healthy. She has vilified many of the foods that children favor and what has been put into place is, often times, not much better. I have seen schools serving the highly sugared cereal flavored yogurts and "granola" bars that…

I wonder why you have so many calories left at the end of the day?
-
I think it depends more on your schedule than time of day. Personally I don't like to eat a lot in the evening as then I have trouble sleeping, but then I am up between 5 and 5:30 every morning.
-
You don't have to eat breakfast as soon as you get up in the morning. I have a medication that I take that I need to wait an hour after taking before I can eat. I fix my breakfast and take it to work and have it before I start my day, usually 2 hours or more after I have gotten up. I like a variety of things for my…

I'm not quite sure how anyone can say that lemon water is alkaline as lemons and lemon juice are an acid. Adding them to water doesn't change the acidity, it just dilutes it. As far a helping one lose weight, that's debatable. I have heard that drinking a cup of hot water with lemon is good, drinking lemon infused water is…
