Those numbers may be low for you but they are not all that low. I would talk to someone first before I adjusted the Lantus. Do not stop altogether without consulting a doctor. If you are going to adjust your dose, I would be on the cautious side and only adjust it 1 unit at a time. Make sure you are consistently eating the…

I also drink tea and have for many years. I picked up the habit when I lived in England when I was in high school but it dropped away when I moved back to the states. I picked it up several years ago. I especially like black tea, Irish breakfast, English breakfast, Earl Grey, or Lady Earl Grey. I don't much care for green…

You can make your own "soda" with a little fruit juice and club soda. I usually use about 1/4 cup juice to 1 can club soda but you could experiment with different amounts. There are a few calories because of the juice but I have never liked the taste of diet sodas or the thought of drinking the chemicals that are in them…

I try to have my last meal of the day before 7, although with my work schedule it's not always possible. Because I am diabetic I usually have a small snack before I go to bed but I have to be careful what it is or else I wake up in the middle of the night with heartburn. That's mainly the reason I don't like to eat too…

Welcome, I'm fairly new to the site as well and my diary is open, feel free to look although I'm still working on this whole healthy diet thing. I am finding that some of the foods I liked are still ok while others I have to really watch how much I eat, if any.

Good luck to you. It can be very overwhelming and there is so much emotion tied to a diabetes diagnosis. This site has helped me in the short time I have been on it.

I have struggled with what to eat as well. Today I spent some time on the computer looking for some answers. I found the diabeteslivingonline.com website and found it very helpful. They have actual recipes that look delicious and I intent to try them out. They also had some slide shows that helped me understand how to…

I had purchased a meter to try to moniter my BGL. At the time I didn't have insurance. I was fortunate and got a job that gave me insurance but when I ordered new test strips I was told that the insurance wouldn't pay for strips for that meter. I talked to the nurse at my doctor's office and she said that they would only…

I haven't told my husband that I'm dieting, I just try to eat healthier when around him. It's not easy because he only eats certain foods, very limited in vegetables. He is willing to try new things as long as he knows what's in it but it is slow going. I'm trying to get away from frying everything--that seems to be the…

It could be he's feeling insecure. He may be afraid that once you lose the weight you will be more attractive to other men and will leave him. I know, it sounds stupid but my girl friend had the experience. She was dieting and her husband kept sabotaging her. When she asked him what was going on he told her he was afraid…

Muscle does weigh more than fat but you are still loosing weight. I was once told that 10 lb is one dress size. (I assume it would be the same for men). You have lost more weight so of course your clothes are going to feel looser. Your body is probably changing as well.

I drink a lot of water, I always have, but I haven't found that it helps if I'm hungry. A cup of hot tea works for me, I don't know why that makes me feel fuller but it seems to help.

You numbers should be different when you are testing after fasting (first thing in the morning) and when you are testing after eating. I was told that number under 100 for fasting were in the good range and under 180 after eating. Does anyone else have different numbers they go by? A reading of 123 after eating is not bad…

How long was it between the time you tested and the time your doctor tested? If you were fasting all that time you could have had a "liver dump" which will raise your BGL. As far as starting over with a new doctor, unless you are really unhappy with this one, I wouldn't. You might want to be more diligent with testing your…

Congratulations! That is my goal as well, your success gives me hope that I can do it as well.

I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes with my first child almost 24 years ago. I was able to control it with diet and exercise. When I was pregnant with my second child I began the diabetic diet right away and was able to avoid that diagnosis. As I aged I became borderline diabetic and was eventually put on medication…

I have been noticing the same trend, my BGL was within range in the evening but above 100 when I tested it in the morning. I asked my doctor about this and she explained about the liver dump. I have tried to make a point of eating a snack before I go to bed, sometimes it helps and other times not. I am still struggling…

I check my sugar levels twice a day, once in the morning before I eat and once after dinner. The levels I was told to shoot for are under 100 for fasting blood sugar and under 180 for after a meal. I was told to test 2 hours after beginning eating but sometimes it's a little longer before I test. I just began using insulin…
