Look for some higher calorie foods to boost your calories. nuts, avocado, oils, seeds, trail mix are all quite calorie dense foods.... Smoothies are a great way to add healthy calories that don't make you feel too full. Also adding a sport drink (I like cytomax) while you are working out will add calories, enhance…

I have done a number of races where I found a buddy committed to a race, and trained with that person. In every case we ran separately at our own pace. I don't think that there is anything at all wrong with that. Perhaps you could hang back with her to pace yourself until she starts lagging. I would agree ahead of time…

Also IMHO if you aren't gaining weight you are winning so if she has maintained her weight for 8 years she is doing better than many

could be a lot of things. You have no insight ( and I am betting she doesn't either) into what her daily calorie intake / expenditure looks like. Bottom line is we don't all get a fair shake when it comes to body composition / weight management. Life isn't fair. If you are genetically predispositioned to gain fat, it…

No experience with either shoe. The best is to go somewhere and get a gait analysis / shoe fitting. This will help you get a good shoe for you. Best is to buy from somewhere that will allow you to return / exchange after running in them a few times. Then you know if they are causing you pain.

I do. Just be aware it will probably over report calorie burn if your average is below ~120BPM

Try to avoid foods that have "added sugar". Try to completely eliminate high fructose corn syrup. Fuit is healthy so don't eliminate it. It is calorie dense so you need to be careful with it. Try to time your sugar intake so it is within an hour of exercise this will reduce the spike in blood sugar

It smells desperate in here <ok I'll leave now>

any time you change your diet it can lead to temporary gastro issues. A salad is not going to give you to much fiber. I would say stay the course for a few weeks, and see what happens.

Some suggestions Strength train - You have to build a strong body before adding a lot of stress like running. Identify your weaknesses and work on them!! Stretch and foam roll religiously - flexibility is quite important to avoiding injury, pinpointing your problem areas and massaging daily with trigger point techniques…

Make sure you have been properly fit on your bike. that is the main factor to reduce pressure on the knee. Also make sure you are keeping you are using a small gear, and keeping a high cadence. Pushing to big a gear puts lots of stress on the knees.

I alternate between the nature made fish oil, and nutrigold krill oil. I think the main thing you want to look for is that the oil comes from smaller fish or has been purified to remove heavy metals. Flax seed also has pretty high levels of omega 3s

c25k is a beginner program. I think anyone is ok to start that (assuming they do not have an underlying heart condition) You can always make the program move slower by repeating weeks (The first couple of weeks are really easy) You should also add in some basic strength training 2-3 days perweek. Simple body weight…

I second the recommendation for strength training. I also would look at your omega 3 / omega 6 balance. Getting this correct can help decrease inflammation and thus help with joint pain. Turmeric and Cinnamon are also great natural inflammatories.
