  • Hi everyone! I'm Emily, just married my AF guy last November and trying to adjust to the new lifestyle. We're stationed at New Boston AFB in NH, there are only 9 military so it's tiny. I just moved here (I'm British) and I've put on a few lbs since I got here (unfamiliar food and other reasons) so I'm trying to take those…
  • My days are pretty open right now, I usually work out in the morning, starting about 8-9 ish. I tend to eat first as my workouts feel a lot harder on a completely empty stomach and I never accomplish as much. When I was working full time, I did my runs straight after work before eating. I'm a bit poor at the very early…
  • I doubt I can help you much, but I bet there are plenty of sports groups near you that play for fun and not competitively. In my last town, the local newspaper (for a small town) had a number of sports groups that played for fun and were advertising for people of all abilities. Maybe check out the local gyms and see if…
  • Good luck, and most importantly, have fun!
  • Good for you! Please feel free to add me too, I am logging daily and want to be able to give and get support from friends.
  • 450 a day is not healthy. Eat more. Your body needs a lot more fuel to sustain itself or you will get very ill. Particularly if you are exercising. You probably need to try and hit a baseline of at least 1200 a day.
  • I'm no expert, but if you suffer from "skinny-fat" then you might want to start lifting weights, they'll help tone you up. For general increasing fitness, I'd say any cardio you enjoy. If you stick to anything for a couple weeks or more you'll see very quick progress in the beginning which will probably encourage you to…
  • You would burn more calories by just doing the elliptical for longer. But the 30DS works out more of your body and tones a lot more than the elliptical would. Why not try the 30DS, and add some extra sessions on the machines for the days you feel up to it? The dvd only takes 25-30 minutes.
  • "Just a bit further..." "You can make it to that point and stop if you need to..." (I usually don't stop) While running, I pick up Dori's tune from Finding Nemo, "Just keep running, just keep running..."
  • Treadmill, though only because weather doesn't always let me run outside. I do love the rowing machine too, great whole body workout.
  • I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I just don't agree with hers. I'd far rather see fitness posts on Facebook (not that I actually see what she blabs on about) than a lot of the other rubbish I get on my feed. But I just don't read what I'm not interested in. If the author chooses to be whiny and jealous…
  • Also this! I rarely want to go beforehand, but my mantra is: I've never once regretted going for a run. If I feel like I don't want to do anything, I set myself a really low target, once I'm out there I usually end up doing much more than my minimum. Getting started is always the hardest bit.
  • I've never been confident enough to do it. But a lot of sports bras are made now with the intention of being suitable as the only upper layer, so if you want to then go for it. I don't think I'd really notice if someone else did, I'd just be pleased for them that they were out running. Whenever I see a runner, no matter…
  • I seem to fall off the wagon after every big event I do and I barely run for weeks after running 4-5 times a week. Each time I start up again I feel weak and pathetic and can only run a tiny portion of what I could before, but it comes back to me pretty fast, far faster than when I first started. And even though my…
  • It's certainly possible. You say you want to lose 55lbs in 6 months, which is close to 10lbs a month. That's roughly 2 to 2.5lbs a week. It's possible if you work out the required daily calorie intake and do your best to stick to it. You do want to make sure you think of long term changes though, or else you won't be able…
  • I know the feeling, I tend to want to binge at night. I drink a low cal hot chocolate instead. It satisfies the sweet and chocolate craving, you can get them as low as 60 calories and I even find them somewhat filling. Especially handy for the cold nights! Not as healthy as the tea options but this satisfies me personally…
  • I'm 5'3", my body seems to like being at 136-140, I can lose it easily if I go above but it's a hard slog to lose even a couple lbs below. My ultimate goal is about 125, but I can never seem to get close and it's very disheartening!
  • I got hooked on this game, I stopped playing until the final wipe since it was getting frustrating losing everything over and over again. But time to get back in there again. I can go exploring for hours on the different planets and before I know it I've been on 4 hours!
  • Hi all, This is absolutely me. I get disheartened so easily, I'm excellent at making excuses to delay the start, and after emigrating to the US last year I'm struggling to find meals to make myself and the new hubby that are healthy and not full of processed stuff. But time to finally get started again, looking for friends…
  • Yep, I agree with most of the above people, it depends what you are used to! I live in the Peak District, UK (the name is a giveaway!) so it's harder to find a flat road than a hilly one. But I still find it difficult to run them! I'm getting better though, I'm definitely stronger on hills than I was after I've been trying…
  • The weight gain will most likely be water retention. When you exercise more than you were, your muscles retain water to repair and build. Make sure you eat enough for your body to deal with the sudden increased activity, without going too crazy. Your weight will even out again so don't worry about it. Make sure you drink…
  • I was disappointed in Diablo 3 so hopefully the expansion will make some improvements. I try not to be excited about WoW expacs but I can't help it. As soon as I cut my addiction something brings me back again! I just hope it's darker than Pandaria. I do like a bit of comedy mixed in on the occasional quest or cut scene,…
  • I only have a couple old pairs, I like to use retired shoes on the long mud runs and throw them away when they get wrecked in those! Only two pairs of runners in my current rotation too, it looks like I'm a long way behind most of you!
  • Count me in :-)
  • It might just be a case of working out which foods exactly give you that problem. I know a couple people with IBS took a while to work out what foods they needed to avoid, perhaps once you know you'll find you're much less affected. I agree that you need to try changes out before the race. And my own experience told me…
  • I usually stick it in as circuit training, but I only put 20 minutes in. If you wanted a more accurate number you would probably have to use a heart rate monitor.
  • It's all about the medication. Once you are on the correct dosage your metabolism should be about average. But getting the dosage right is the tricky bit. It took my mum years of trial and error and complaints at the doctor to get her on what was right for her. It may well be harder in the meantime, but it's just important…
  • Autumn 2014. I have about 15lbs to lose, but I can't seem to shift any of it, and it is infuriating! I'm trying to drop a dress size before I try dresses on, the style I am hoping for does not fit my current belly! My fiancé of course insists I don't need to lose anything, but it would be nice to feel more confident. Feel…
  • A cold shower is nothing compared to the arctic enema. Don't even bother, it won't prepare you for your body going into complete shock! It took me a couple seconds to register where I was once I jumped in, my brain and my heart didn't seem to know what to do! Best thing is to have no fear, just jump in, and move as fast as…
