I don't live there but I looked through the mfp groups to find people in my area, might be worth looking into.

I have very wavy hair, it is hating me for the daily washes and the weather enough as it is so I stopped subjecting it to heat too. I don't work right now so I just let it dry naturally, then tie it in a ponytail to keep it out my way and stop it sticking out funny. I only style it when I'm going somewhere special. I'm…

Congratulations on the finish! Amazing! I'm going to have to stop reading these race reports or I'll want to run a 50 (and I've not even hit the marathon yet).
-
Oh my goodness! I ran that race last year. What an absolute mess. I'd also be furious if I was told to run a shorter route as well. I'm just proud of all the spectators helping out with water and cheering the runners anyway.

I've read that it does burn... all movement does. But not enough to warrant an extra cookie (dang!)

Lift weights! You won't get bulky like a guy, but you'll tone and get stronger.

Pretty much all of my sports bras start to do this after a while. If you've lost weight, or just worn them enough that they're looser, you're more likely to chafe. If you've had it a while it's probably time for a new one. Bodyglide is also a lifesaver for chafing issues.

^ This! And yes, you can run only twice a week and improve. Progress happens fast for beginners. I heard somewhere that you can go 5 days (roughly) without losing your base level, so as long as you keep at twice you'll keep getting better. It will just take a little longer. (Your other workouts will help, but running is a…

Thank you! :-D I love it already.

Thank you for your story. I can't imagine what it was like. Don't let the terrorists win! What happened has not changed a thing about my attitude towards marathons. I'll never run Boston, but only because I'll never qualify.

Just moved to Manchester from the UK, since I don't know many people in the area here seemed like a good place to start! I'm particularly on the lookout for running buddies, but anyone please add me.

My least favourite is usually starting on those days I really don't feel like it, usually before a long run (though I'm always sooo glad that I did it). I also dread any exercise I find particularly difficult, though they're what I make a beeline for since doing them more will do me more good and makes them easier!

Hi Ben, and other runners! I've been running about 3 years, I completed a Tough Mudder and my first half in 2012, and did the same half last year, with a time of 2:01:33 (unexpectedly knocking 3.5 mins off my target), now I'm keen to get under the 2hr mark! I'll be signing up for my first full shortly (hoping to get into…

Maya, you're at my goal weight! (We're the same height). It sounds to me like Kazik wasn't such a good friend after all. Weight lifting is a good tool for toning up and helping lose the last few lbs (you really don't have much to lose). It will also be slow because your body is at a healthy weight and probably wants to…

To lose weight you need to use more calories than you eat. Roughly 3500 calories equates to a lb of fat. An example: On the treadmill I burn roughly 200 calories for a 20 minute session, so that's nearly 18 of those treadmill sessions to lose a lb. Most successful weight loss happens with exercise and changes in the…

Around 400-500 at the moment, mixing up the cardio machines. I do weights in between but I don't count those on my calorie expenditure.

I would say it's very realistic. My sister went from being a complete non runner, following the C25K program and ran a half marathon 4 months after it was finished. Are you a brand new runner? Or have you already started? I just googled 15k and found a training program for novices by Hal Higdon (a well known running…

I thought what they did was pretty cruel and dumb. I'm glad she got an apology. Clearly I've worn a tutu for a race before (picture's a bit of a giveaway)... it was a charity and team thing, soooo much easier to be seen by our supporters and each other. They're also a lot less burdening to run in than most costumes. Most…

I've been playing it with the hubby. I stopped playing D3 shortly after its release (like most) but picked up for the expac. They've made some good changes; legendary and set items drop more often, the new act is pretty cool (very long!) and the adventure mode is fun to play around with.

Yes please keep me posted! I'm a runner, at the moment I'm mixing up running and other cardio machines, averaging around 500 cals a day, but I plan on upping my mileage by quite a bit. I love a good challenge, very motivating! Have fun for this one, you hard core burners you!

Haha awesome! I think people have the right to be proud of their accomplishments so I wouldn't laugh at any distance bumper sticker. Except maybe the 0.0 which is pretty cool! A lot of people use the run walk methods to achieve their marathon or half marathon goals, i don't think it takes away their right to display the…

How often do you do these? Give me a month and I might be able to keep up somewhat! Also if I'm English but just moved to the US, what side would that make me? lol

I did the Scotland one in 2012, it was incredible, one of the best experiences of my life (though I hated it at the same time for some of it! lol). My advice: *Upper body strength. Lots of hauling yourself over things. Work on those push ups and pull ups (I did assisted) *Run. They say make sure you can run 7 miles, I…

Thank you both! I will check those suggestions out too. My plan is to supplement my running. I'd love to put more focus on lifting but I am going to start training for some races so I can't drop the running. The Strong Curves sounds interesting, I'll do some research!
-
My biggest motivation has been the quick progress, seeing and feeling the results of training, seeing how far I came from the beginning in a relatively short period of time. Signing up for events is another, for me a reason to train when I don't feel like it, getting ready for something that I'm really excited about.…

Yep. The harder my workouts are, the more likely I am to feel it 2 days after rather than 1.

Haha that's how I feel! The last couple times I got caught in rain while running it was a full out storm (it was sunny and bright when I set out), the rain was coming down so hard I could barely breathe and my eyes were so full of water I couldn't see. Generally, rain won't stop me going out though I prefer dry. But once…

Thanks for the clarification! Distance runner here. My favourite race is the half marathon, though planning for a full in the next year. When I'm not training for something specific I tend to fall into a 4-6 mile habit.

The first thing that really shocked me was a piece of hot chocolate fudge cake at the local Wetherspoons. I knew it wasn't going to be good, but finding out it was over half my daily calorie allowance makes me rethink whenever I go! Number of calories per chocolate cookie. I used to eat a good portion of the packet quite…
