wish they shipped to other countries, what a nice idea

I agree! I've been playing with that McMillan calculator, it's interesting to note that I run 10ks at a slower pace than my longer runs or a HM. Am very slow to warm up and get going, don't start moving freely until the 5th or 6th mile and my favourite distance just to run (not race) is 10 miles. If I had any sense I would…

I eat almost immediately after a run. Everyone says it is very important, it definitely hasn't made me fat!

am going to have a chat with another doctor about it, my dose is quite high (1g) and my serum levels too so maybe can just take a bit less there must be quite a few people who have run marathons on lithium though?
-
thanks so much everyone, I feel relieved it's nice to carry on as I am, logging more miles and enjoying myself without any pressure - I love running, I don't want it to be a thing that I have to be good at or do in a perfect way, I just want to enjoy it ETA - I wondered (briefly) yesterday if I would get more out of my…

Thank you! I have a half in March, that might be close enough. I'm really not overly obsessed with doing the full thing in a particular time but I suppose I had a good run today and it made me wonder if I could or should push myself. Really I will be pleased just to complete it without problems. It's nice to have somewhere…

Ok, thanks everyone. So it's keep running consistently, gradually run more, and don't expect too much progress in terms of speed. I appreciate all your thoughts so far!

thing is lithium IS a salt, so I don't really know how it works or what I should do when I need to regularly run for more than a couple of hours at a time I can taste it on my skin though, the lithium, so am definitely excreting it as I run (which is good, they always warn you that it will build up and poison you if you…

I love how simple that is. I run 4-6 days a week, so I think (I know) I'm capable of 5 and need to do that consistently (that word again) and hit about a 30 mile target each week. Ok good I have a plan. And I don't mind if I'm not much faster by May, I like enjoying running rather than getting injured by it!
-
ok so, sorry to go on, currently weekly mileage is about 25 or around 100 a month - do you do an extra shortish run in the week or add 10% to your long run? Does it make a difference, just personal preference?
-
thanks zen too, I suppose on the day I will just be thrilled to finish at all am too lazy to push myself very hard anyway, I don't like having to 'recover' from a run, I just like running in a sort of steady state really
-
I like that advice, thanks Carson (and Keith) my long runs go up and down, am not very consistent, they are between 10 and 14 miles, I add roughly a mile a month I think but drop back down again

I thought the whole article was hilarious. And he does make a good point "Why would someone want to get up at 5 a.m. and run 10 miles adorned with fluorescent tape to avoid being struck by someone who has the good sense to use a car for a 10-mile journey?" Why? I am terrified of being run over. I don't know why I do it…

very very interesting, thank you vardaeml! and the comments too - discouraging but interesting I wonder if this is why I am slow and whether I always will be :ohwell:

Thanks for the bump :) I like lithium. Started taking it about 13 years ago, will probably stick with it until my kidneys give up because it keeps me quite well. Wondering whether people on it do anything different about electrolyte replacement and stuff like that though.
-
no advice (slowest runner in the WORLD) but adding my support, you have to win!

I almost doubled in size thanks to chlorpromazine, olanzapine and other stuff - I had been a BIT thin before I was diagnosed but that is hardly the point. Some meds are definitely friendlier to the waistline than others, you can insist on the most weight-neutral options at all times. It's been quite a while since I was…

added you really don't know how to make any use of the group but I do enjoy seeing everyone's activities in the feed :)
-
eventually I will lose heart and stop bumping up this thread, but in the meantime . . . someone on here must train reasonably hard and regularly for a few hours at a time AND take lithium
-
(I don't really have a schedule as such, emphasis is mainly on The Long Run once a week which is up to 13ish miles for now and a goal of 100 miles in total for this month)

Hello, I would like more spring marathoner friends too! Edinburgh, 25th May 2014 - I think it is going to take me over 5 hours but my friend/coach/guru is confident I can do better and has promised to pace me on the day.
-
nobody can accuse me of showing off my half marathon results today  but I'm still quite pleased with them - 2:28 (about 11:34 consistent pace although my Garmin has slightly different things to say it's more or less the same outcome) yay me anyway
-
another bump

I think drinks are a good way of adding calories if you are sick of eating all the time, fruit juices or chocolate milk and they both offer some helpful nutrients for runners?
-
had to disable the bit of MFP that proudly announces weight loss though, everyone always cheers and says well done and it feels really pro-ana ish (although I know they don't mean it that way)
-
am just sneaking onto your thread as also not trying to lose any more weight and training for a marathon but not wanting to gain any either have seven months until my event though so have been able to adopt a 'run less/eat more' approach which is keeping my weight fairly stable
-
is ok, am just thrilled to see another person post on this thread! thanks  yeah, I have faith though, I did find someone out in the wider web who was into endurance sports and took lithium for a while but they had problems with hydration, not surprisingly :ohwell:
-
I don't want to be the only person on MFP who takes lithium and is enjoying training for a marathon - just want to know how other people manage The Thirst.
-
:ohwell:

ok, am up for that - haven't even got my few sub 30 5ks on my garmin and I sometimes have the opportunity to join in a lunch time running group where there is one speedy runner (usually it is really slow) soooo yes please don't quite know what to do with the group, it must have more to it? do we put stuff in the calendar…
