Good rule of thumb regarding meat - if there are ingredients other than the type of meat it is, it's processed. Buy raw, cook it at home, portion it out, as much as possible. As well, if there are ingredients in the list that are only easily pronounceable if you have college/university education in biology or chemistry,…

I understand completely! I've got a 9pm-7am shift... what I've found is nibbling through the night, and standing up/marching in place whenever possible. Check out my food diary for what I'm currently eating (haven't filled in today's yet, as today is an odd day...), and remember that the snacks are spread out over the…

Muscle has a higher metabolism overall than fat does. So while walking certainly is a great start, I would suggest doing other exercise to start toning, otherwise you'll get the loose skin effect happening if you have a lot to lose. As well, toning the muscle will help your metabolism overall and increase your rate of loss.

Weight loss is all over, but TONING is what you are getting at. I can lose a bunch of weight by walking, but the baggy skin would be there, and the individual muscles would not be toned and in shape - only my legs! If you don't do any other exercise, you'll lose overall weight, yes, but the definition would certainly be…

Sample everything. Take a little bit, fill the majority of your plate with veggies. Offer to bring/make a dessert, do your research and make one that you can eat without feeling guilty. Use a smaller plate (helps psychologically - seriously!). And don't let peer pressure get to you. Take small bites, chew thoroughly, savor…

I started here in January of 2011 at a size 24... and am now comfortably fitting a 10... and they are starting to get a bit baggy... I never thought I'd fit an 8, but maybe... just maybe... You can totally do this!

If what you are doing is healthy - ie eating within your calories, and eating ENOUGH calories and you are showing improvement (15lbs is nothing to laugh at!), then you are doing it "right". Keep it up, you are becoming a better you, and doing a darn good job of it! People who say otherwise when what you are doing is…

My favorite line is "At least I've started". And then I go back to doing whatever I was doing, and ignore them completely. :)

Number one: save up and invest in a slow cooker. That said, slow cooker soups are amazing. My current favorite (and my husband loves it too!) consists of: -1/2 cup chopped onion -1/2 cup chopped celery -10 to 12 baby potatoes quartered (or sixth-ed, depending on their size!) -1 cup chopped carrot -1 to 2 cups sliced (I…

Their healthiest option on the menu is the apricot chicken. I believe it's 390 cals for the plate, and it's chicken with an apricot sauce, and asparagus. Very nummy and low cal! Edit: Avoid the breadsticks like the plague, and ask for the salad dressing on the side. Their house dressing is actually pretty high calorie...

fibre 1 100 cal bar. It's my latest favorite thing! SOOO tasty... and under all three of those requirements!

My new favorite go to is the Fibre 1 100 cal bars. Om nom nom nom...

The tendons in my ankles tend to hate me after some of the more strenuous workouts in my self inflicted torture sessions (lol)... and I've found that alleve works wonders. Not sure if it's available outside of Canada... but it's a muscle relaxant... However, main thing is to ensure you are warming up before your exercise…

All. The. Time. My mother is fairly thin, and whenever I used to hug her, back when I was 290lbs, I felt like I would crush her. I'm now 182lbs, and just as thin as she is... and I still think I'm going to crush her. She did illustrate the fact that I'm a bit smaller now, as she wants the jeans I'm currently wearing once…

the skinny cow chocolate truffle bars are AMAZING. They are 100 cal each (in Canada anyway), and they are soooo good!

Once when I wake up at 4:30 pm (I work nights!) and then, if I'm really ambitious, once at 8:00 am when I get home from work.

Mine ranges from about 48 to 54 BPM usually. If I'm sick it increases to about 55 to 60 BPM. I have always had a low resting heart rate though...

Add in some fresh oranges. Seriously. Vitamin C will do wonders for you when you are sick.

I'm gonna pipe in with baked sweet potato. Seriously. I wish I had tried them sooner in life...

I'm not sure about the 170-175 (but if you're pushing yourself, then that's working in the anaerobic range... which shouldn't be the majority of your workout... however, I'm not 100% sure on that one, so I'm leaving that alone...) HOWEVER - resting HR should NEVER be higher than 100. Even 100 is pushing it. Average resting…

shake and bake or grilled chicken accompanied by fried mushrooms usually... or baked yams, depending on how much time I have. Baked yams are easy (wash, wrap in foil, throw in oven at 350F), but take a while (about 1 1/2 hours) to bake.

I have gained a huge appreciation for raw kohlrabi. It kinda tastes somewhere between potato and radish (and I think it tastes a bit like snow peas as well), and it is super crunchy. Very healthy, very tasty (IMO), and fairly low cal (about 73 calories for 2 cups). I don't know how available it is in stores - we grew a…

So I'm not a huge fan of stuffed peppers, but these are DELICIOUS! Ingredients: -6 medium to large peppers: washed, tops cut off and seeds removed. -1 cup of Quinoa -2 cups of water -1 tablespoon oil -1.5 cup chopped onion -2 cups chopped mushrooms -1 can diced tomatoes (suggest: Eating Right brand made by Safeway. They do…

I always workout before my meals - on as empty a stomach as I can. I tend to feel sick if I workout after I've eaten. It's more of a "whatever works best for you" thing.

The carbohydrates in a sweet potato are more complex carbohydrates. It takes more effort for your body to break these down, and your blood sugar doesn't spike as much as with a regular potato. If you have a risk of diabetes/have diabetes, sweet potatoes are better for you, as they don't break down into sugar as rapidly as…

Your body requires specific nutrients in order to function properly and keep you healthy. Exercise conditions muscle, and tones your body, but does not add nutrients. So, although you will lose weight regardless of what you eat, provided you are in deficit, diet will determine how healthy you are/remain. Junk food has very…

Go for it!!! BTW - Red Lobster isn't too bad, except for the salt content. Check out their online nutrition information, you'd be surprised on a few things! Happy Birthday in advance!

Remembering that all things take time, especially weight loss. It didn't go on overnight, and it's not gonna come off overnight. The scale may not move as much as you want it to every week, but that doesn't mean you aren't improving and getting healthier. At the end of the day, as long as you made the healthiest choices…

I do one workout right when I wake up (or within about half an hour, depending on how long I procrastinate!), and then have breakfast. After I get home from work, I do my second workout, and then have my supper, and then head to bed. I'm finding it works well for me.
