  • How are you supposed to burn fat if you are constantly giving your body food (hence fuel) throughout the day? I am curious also. I have been trying to only eat when I'm hungry. Much easier to do during the weekends when I'm at home than during the week when I'm at work.
  • This. Work used to always be a 'bad food' place for me because people are always bringing in treats. And most of the treats are loaded with sugar (donuts, bagels, cookies, candy, etc). After two weeks of eating primal I lost all urge to have them. Every once in awhile I'll try one and it just doesn't taste as good to me as…
  • I am hoping that I will be able to stop using my CPAP machine when I lose enough weight. Glad to hear going primal and losing the weight has done that for you.
  • I have found chicken drumsticks to be a great comfort food for me. I roast up a bunch (just did 8 last night) with a simple salt, pepper, garlic powder and olive oil recipe. Let them cool down and pop them in the fridge. Then when I feel like snacking I grab one (and a paper towel). I sit at the table and eat the…
  • Other than adding more meat I have found the non-low fat cottage cheese has a decent protein to carb ratio. I use Daisy 4% milk fat cottage cheese. Daisy Brand - Cottage Cheese 4% Milkfat, 1/2 cup Calories 110 Carbs 3 g Fat 5 g Protein 13 g
  • If hunger is derailing you when you try to start up I wonder if you just need to eat more paleo foods than you are now. And try to keep paleo friendly snacks around (and dump the non-paleo ones). Don't track calories at first (if you ever do). You need to break the sugar addiction, if that means eating more, then eat more,…
  • Then try Primal, it's a less strict version of Paleo (for the most part) that allows dairy. Check out the website Mark's Daily Apple for more info about Primal.
  • My wife had hers taken out a few years ago and she was worried about food restrictions after the surgery. The surgeon told her that based on the condition of her gall bladder that he doubted it had worked for years and that she could go back to eating what she normally did as she had probably already figured out which…
  • Chicken drumsticks are a great portable lunch option. As are hard boiled eggs. I just had lettuce wraps today for lunch with some Applegate deli meat. Our local butcher sells "Meat Boxes" and one of the choices is 5 lbs of drumsticks. This works out to around 24 drums. Just a simple olive oil, salt, pepper and garlic…
  • Yep. Use it to replace all the franken vegetable oils in the pantry. If I eat it hot, I cook it with coconut oil, if I eat it cold I put olive oil on it.
  • Check to see if there is a local butcher shop near you that gets its meat locally and uses only grass fed and/or pastured animals. I got pointed to one in January and couldn't believe how much better the meat from there tastes compared to the big box grocery stores.
  • Mine are at 10/35/55(C/P/F) but getting to my protein target is hard.
  • Could also be called "skipping a meal".
  • This. Chipotle actually tries to get decent meat and local veggies when in season so it's not so bad. I basically get the above when there except I also add the sour cream and cheese (I'm primal also). Very satisfying. I hadn't thought of getting double meat though. Maybe next time. Also nice is that Chipotle has a nice…
  • I wonder what the response would be if you said you weren't a fan of Italian and said something about grabbing a steak somewhere. Of course Italian is generally cheaper than a steak house so that may be driving that choice. I've found that most Italian places have decent non-pasta meals also.
  • You may feel like crap for the first few days also as your body adjusts to this different way of eating. Stick with it and you will come out the other side feeling great. I know you said you aren't doing this to lose weight but you may want to measure yourself (neck, waist, hips) and track those monthly (or weekly).…
  • Here is a page with the typical body fat %-age chart and a newer one with ages included in it. http://www.builtlean.com/2010/08/03/ideal-body-fat-percentage-chart/
  • Probably because they are a "bread" company and don't want to taint their image until they see how the hidden menu does.
  • It's a regional thing. http://www.popvssoda.com/
  • I gave up pop when I went Primal Jan 1 and haven't missed it yet. I don't drink coffee or tea either so I've only been drinking water since then. I did try a caffeine free Diet Pepsi a couple weeks ago and it almost burned down my throat. It probably has to do with the acidity of it but it certainly made me not want to try…
  • What hand held device do you use? Uncle Sam owes me a large chunk of change so I may be able to fork some over for a better BF% measuring device.
  • In addition to what most people above have said I don't feel like I am on a diet or depriving myself of anything. People bring in donuts to work and I don't have any and it's not a problem. They smell good and can be tempting but then I think about the good, tasty food I would rather be eating and it's no problem to pass…
  • Yeah, the calculations that depend on body measurements are the least accurate but I needed to start somewhere. Maybe when I get down into the 20's I'll start looking for a more accurate way to measure BF%.
  • I don't even do the recommended amount and am still losing. If I exercise it's because I have the energy and don't have anything better or more fun to do. And take measurements of your waist and hips. Weight is not the only thing that matters. This past week my weight has only gone down 1 pound but my body is different and…
  • Here is a site that computes it for you based on a couple of measurements. http://www.fat2fitradio.com/tools/mbf/ Mine was just over 40% when I started Jan 1 and now it's down to 37% so it's moving in the right direction.
  • I've been primal since Jan 1, feel free to add me if you want. My diary is open to all.
  • I've only been primal since Jan 1 but I just ignore all those 'primal' supplement ads/etc. I figured they are for the hard core fitness buffs that are following the primal blueprint. I figure I am a long way from even being in a position to consider them and I doubt I ever would. I'm just doing this to get (and maintain) a…
  • Don't be afraid of fat. I know it took me a week or so to get over the drilled into our heads mantra that fat is bad. Make sure the ingredients in the foods you buy are simple things that you know what they are. Buy normal butter, sour cream, cottage cheese, etc. Compare the ingredient list between real butter and…
  • I felt like crap my first week or so but it passed and I have felt great since then. I didn't do any exercise at all during that time because I just had no energy. Now I'm starting to bug my family with my higher energy levels. I was getting some cramps also and have been trying to get more potassium into my diet but I…
  • A good phone app would help also. That's how I found MFP in the first place, it had a good app for it. I think the only group on MFP that generates similar levels of hostility are the vegans/vegetarians. There seems to be a core group of people that think they know the way to lose and people following 'other' plans are…
