As someone earlier posted, I've found that herbal teas can work really well, particularly fruity ones or even earl grey from Starbucks as they have a natural sweetness that usually takes care of the fix!

Thanks, I think I'm going to switch to the capsules.

THIS! I've seen women double my size with handsome, loving attentive men in their lives. It's not about your weight, it's about your self confidence and openness to a relationship/love. If you don't feel worthy of love 25lbs heavier, its not going to change with weight loss. There are supermodels that can't get or maintain…

I agree with those who say to get rid of the scale or only weigh as little as once a month. Pounds are such a fickle thing, and it's easy to become obsessed with numbers that can be affected by virtually anything and fluctuate as much as 10 lbs within a day! I had the same issue; the pounds weren't moving and it was…

Late to this party, but I'm a believer in just buying the essentials until you reach your final goal. Essentials to me are a couple pairs of neutral pants/jeans (depending on your job) a few block colored shirts/blouses and for ladies perhaps a skirt or two. I'm a firm believer that you should feel good about your…

It's a group that another MFPer created for women 5'9 and above. We just find that our bodies/weightloss tends to be a bit different that our shorter counterparts :) If you search the forums for "Totally tall" I'm sure the thread will come up :)

I agree with sallyh03 in that if you're a sweet-toother (such as I am) making healthier versions of your favorites might be a better option if you know you'll be reaching for the junky snacks fairly regularly. I find that my weekly weight loss is affected by what I eat sometimes, not so much in gaining as in not losing,…

I'd love it if I could lose a pound a week, but I tend to do this yo-yo thing where i lose and gain the same pound or two for weeks or must don't move at all for weeks at a time. I think I'm losing inches (I haven't been measuring religiously, but people who haven't seen me for weeks say that I'm looking thinner, bless…

I think I was misunderstood...my dietician didn't say that you wouldn't burn fat AT ALL, her point was that your body will hold back on its maximum burning potential, if you will, if you don't fuel yourself properly throughout the day. Most of us here who are trying to lose weight would like to burn at the best potential…

Well you can certainly still be tough - toughness comes from inside and it takes strength and toughness to get real about your eating and exercise habits and turn your life around. You're on the right path. My only completely non-professional advice would be to do your best to deal with those "demons" that make you reach…

Seconded! It can have a lot of advertisements, but the articles, exercises and recipes in it are great IMO. And the yearly subscription is very affordable.

Well, welcome back! Glad you decided to dust yourself off and get back on the horse! I can't tell you that I know exactly what you've been through, but I do understand that there is definitely a need to get your mental and emotional state to a good place when you're losing weight and becoming healthy in order for it to…

I've always been a sweater, sadly. It makes working out kinda disgusting, but there isn't much I can do about it. It definitely could be the increase in water intake, but for some of us it's part of our make up. /cry

Late to this thread but very glad it's here! I'm 5'10 (just shy of 5'11) and I have ginormous size 12 feet (thank god for payless!) and large bone structure. It used to drive me crazy when I was younger and I would hear from people who went strictly by the BMI that I should be 150lbs. WTF!?!! I was 130 lbs when I was 13…

I enjoyed the note about how the actual pounds on the scale don't indicate all of the benefits. I've been bummed here and there over my slug-like pound loss, but I have lost inches and have seen improvements in my strength and cardio endurance. And of course, the better eating is great.

I too would be interested in this as my Achilles has been inflamed for a few weeks now and I hate riling it up with workouts! Any personal trainers out there that have some good advice?
-
I'm sure it's only temporary. Your body is getting rid of excess water, which can take several days, even a week to finally get back to normal. Keep it up; your trainer is right in that if you don't drink enough, you'll retain and keep the pounds on. Give your body a chance to adjust, I promise, you'll see results on the…

I agree that having a "planned cheat day" is a bit counterproductive. This is a change of lifestyle, not a diet. And yes, in real life, you're going to have foods that you love that aren't the most healthy or nutritious, and it's not realistic to think you'll never eat or drink them again. I personally work at being…

I hate them because my legs are very long and my torso is short, so they're exceedingly difficult for me and almost always throw my back or hips out. I'll do them if I have no other choice, but I'd rather do ANYTHING else...

I agree with the majority of the majority of the suggestions here, it sounds like you may be shorter on calories simply because you're burning quite a bit more during the week than a sedentary person. But check with your personal trainer as well. Many of them start out with a range and see how it works, and if it doesn't…

This is a great post, and you look great, btw. It's completely true; that 90% of the time, the excuses are born from fear of facing whatever it is that keeps the weight on. Whether it's depression, anxiety, daddy/momy issues, unhappiness etc, if you don't deal with why your eating patterns or lifestyle are the way they…

Height: 5''10 (I'd always thought I was 5'11) Weight: 219 Pant Size: 12 -14 Shirt Size: L-XL (Depending on the style, and most of my weight i carried around my shoulders, back and tummy) Frame: Medium - Large (My fingers slightly overlap, but I have long fingers so I don't know how accurate that is) I've only lost 10lbs in…

These are some great suggestions! I too like to work out in the morning, i love having the workout out of the way before breakfast (or shortly after) but I am SO not a morning person. I know a lot of it has to do with the time I go to bed though. I've always been a nightowl, and trying to break that pattern is hard. I'll…

You are most certainly not alone Atthea! I have had the same problem over the past 5 months. I've been losing inches and can see a difference, but the scale has been my enemy. It was just LAST week that I finally dropped some weight. I think it differs for everyone, but it does sound like you're building up muscle mass…

Yep, every month it's a serious pain! I usually get about 3lbs each time and it seems to keep me on a yo-yo loss wise. I don' t count my weigh-ins those weeks because they're not accurate, but I get the discouragement. Just keep doing what you're doing, drinking water and sticking to your routine. Try no to to worry about…

Welcome Craig! Good to see that you're making healthier choices! You'll get lots of great tips, advice and support here! And you don't have to be massively overweight to start looking at your diet. You're ahead of the game if you're catching it now before it spirals out of control! Best of luck and welcome again!

Hey there, HRM is referring to a Heart Rate Monitor. A handful of MFPers have gotten one to help keep more accurate track of how many calories they're burning when they exercise. It's a great one for Zumba since what people burn while doing it varies quite a bit. And my favorite type of dance is the reggaeton and samba,…

College was a while back for me, but I absolutely gained the majority of my weight while I was going! Between the sitting all day and then more sitting while doing homework, and of course the general stress of learning new concepts etc, each year packed on the pounds. You ladies are very wise to get on top of that now…

Trust me, everyone feels this way in the first class, especially if you have an instructor who goes pretty fast. But I've found that it helps not to worry about the moves so much at first, just to keep moving to the beat, that alone will keep your heart pounding. After a few classes, things will start to fall into place.…

Results! I'm sadly someone who's prone to instant self-gratification; patience has never been one of my strong suits. But I'm working on that lol. My lack of patience has led to me giving up in the past, so that's why I have to learn to be patient. Beyond that though, when I can actually see that my body's gotten smaller,…
