Rest. Your body is telling you that you need it. You are in a flare and you need to give your body what it needs to heal. Yes, you can push on through, but I'm not sure if that's helpful in the long run. If you can find time to nap and get some extra sleep at night, it might be helpful.

The interferons and copaxone actually are fairly effective. If you look at their numbers, there Isn't a huge difference between them and the newer drugs. If rebif didn't make me feel so awful, I would still be on it. It worked wonderfully for me. The side effects for the interferons scare me a whole lot les than those for…

I bought my dress off the rack in a size 14 when I was at least a size 18. Ultimately, I lost 50 pounds in about 8 months to fit into it. What really worked for me was to try on my dress weekly. Each week, it would fit a little better and that gave me a little more motivation. By the time of my last fitting, the lady that…

Fat is not the enemy. Saturated fat is not healthy and not necessary because your body can manufacture it. Unsaturated fats and Omega 3's are very necessary. Because I'm very active, I tend to consume around 50 g/day of fat. That's what I aim for. It's what I feel I need when I listen to what my body tells me. When I'm…

I did a hike today that I had never done before. Didn't know anything about the area. About halfway through the 3 mile uphill climb with a 30# toddler on my back I thought I would die. (but I didn't ;) ) The last 2 miles were steep downhill and were just as hard, but a lot more fun. I felt so strong and had so much energy.…

You rock! I hope you are so proud of yourself - I'm sure that was really hard to do!

I've lost 30# now and not one of my friends/acquaintances has noticed. I told a couple of family members who I will be seeing in another week or so, and I know they will be able to tell, but it is VERY disappointing (not discouraging) that the people who see me daily don't notice at all. In the end, I'm doing this for me,…

Are you aware enough during your binge of what you are doing? I ask, because sometimes if I can stop myself even for a minute, I can ask myself why am I binging? Am I physically hungry, or am I trying to fill some other void (stress, loneliness, boredom, etc.) If the answer is just hunger, then I can force myself to slow…

I am so happy to hear that it's not MS and that you finally have an answer. Hopefully both are treatable now that you know the cause!

For me, the key was to really take a good look at the reasons why I was binging. It took a lot of self study. Once I figured it out, I was able to let it go. The other important thing was to avoid alcohol in excess. Anything more than a couple of glasses of wine on the weekend and I start a neverending snack cycle. Giving…

I just was gifted an awesome skirt from a friend who's lost weight. I'm still in process. I was very excited to get this skirt - I had admired it in the past! If she's a good friend, she will be happy to have them.

It does get better, but it takes time. Not knowing would definitely be really hard. I tried to remind myself often that I'm still the same person before and after diagnosis. Nothing's changed except for a name for something that's wrong. That helped to keep it in perspective much of the time.

tilapia is very easy to start with. It's not fishy, cooks quickly, and is versatile. I buy the individually wrapped fillets that you find in a bag in the freezer section. You can put the bag under hot water and it thaws in minutes. I cook it up in a pan, sprayed with a little cooking spray and Mrs Dash spicy seasoning and…

Clean Eating magazine includes a 2 week plan in every issue. It generally runs about 1400-1500 cal/day.

I started C25K in March and failed out in week 3. I was trying to go too fast and tore my calf muscles. After working with a PT, doing some gait changes, and slowing down, I'm killing it. I just started running again last week and I'm having no problem running 25 out of 30 minutes now. Granted, snails may be passing me,…

Based on what I was taught in physiology - a good rule of thumb is 100 cal per mile. I tend to burn a little more than that when I'm walking and about that when I'm running (according to my HRM)

I never liked my sling, it was not comfortable for me or the baby. I used a moby when she was really little (first 3 months) and then switched to an ergo. You can find these used all the time. Please get yourself one. It will return your sanity and allow you to do whatever you need to do.

Excellent idea - I'm going to try this!

Lentils are really high in fiber and they cook up pretty fast. Popcorn too. Just about any vegetable or fruit. I try to stick with whole foods for most of my fiber. Many of the fiber-enriched foods pump up their numbers with inulin and it's unknown if this has any benefit at all (as opposed to the kind found in whole…

cheap foods? Dried beans. They take a little prep time, but I cook a ton up and then freeze them so that they are ready to go. They are super cheap and super healthy. Potatoes are cheap, frozen veggies, whole wheat pasta. Look for cuts of meat that cost less (ie, chicken breast with the bone, chicken thighs, big bags of…

The nutritional info on the bag will say how many servings are in the bag. Open it up and divide it up equally into that many servings and then you will know exactly how many calories per serving. love potatoes - I usually roast them with a little olive oil, and ground spices. BTW - you can buy a scale really cheaply. I…

I'm not sure I'm a success at this point. I'm only down 23 pounds, but my weight loss has been fairly steady right from the start (over the last 3 months). I don't worry about most stuff very much - mostly because I don't want to obsess anymore about what I eat. I eat within my calorie goal (95% time), I eat back most of…

I bought a size 12 wedding dress.....when I was a size 18! I was already working hard and had months to lose the weight. By the time I got married, I'd lost 53 pounds and my seamstress warned me not to loose any more or the dress would be too big! I'm a big fan of motivational clothing. :)

Same here. Cutting out my nightly 2-3 glasses of wine has made weight loss pretty easy. I didn't realize how much the wine was leading me to snack at night. I'm down 23 pounds since Jan primarily from cutting back on alcohol. On some Friday's and Saturday's I let myself have 1 or 2 glasses but it's programmed in - I've…

Don't use shampoo. Just wet your head and scrub the roots with your fingers. Your head will not smell - trust me! If you can avoid extra blow-drying that is probably the wisest move. My hair is pretty great - mostly because I'm way to lazy to blow dry it, so it air dries most days.

Research is starting to add up that more important than those numbers is the amount of inflammation you have going on in your body. In my own family, my 49 yr old BIL who has no history of cardiac issues in his family, has great numbers, exercises and is not overweight had a massive heart attack last fall. Everything was…

I never would have thought I would like it, but it turns out that I love kettlebell. I take a class which I think is important because if your form is wrong, you can really hurt yourself. I burn 375-500 calories per 45 minute class and there's enough strength work built into the class that I'm really starting to feel…

I used to feel that way and I could never force myself to do any of the exercises that you hear that you should do for more than a month or so. Now, I feel bad if I don't get to work out. It's my "me time". The difference is that I took the time to try different things to see what I would like. I found that I love kayaking…

I was on it for 2 years. There were no weight issues while on it. I was heavy when I started but later lost weight. Taking your injection at night is very important, as is premedicating with advil or your OTC med of choice. Some people ice it. I never did, the injection itself really didn't hurt. I found that when I drank…

I'm not sure if I'm willing to restart a med yet. I have an appt next month and plan to ask about this one. I did Avonex and Rebif for about 6 years but the side effects became unrelenting during the last couple of years. I have no desire to start back up on an interferon and the side effects of this new med seem pretty…
