  • Brilliant - well done! And honestly, it only gets easier. The 'big' days tend to be hard, because we're so used to celebrating them by drinking, so discovering that we can get through them quite happily without alcohol and still have fun is a huge step forward. Keep up the good work! Christine
  • The evening went really well. I drank my fizzy water and she drank her wine and we had a good evening. I think that the issue is largely that she doesn't want to make me feel uncomfortable rather than anything else. She isn't a heavy drinker at all and is very uncomfortable with people who are - so maybe it was to do with…
  • Hi goodadvice - nice to have you on board! I was exactly the same as you - a bottle a night pretty much (always accompanied by a large bag of chips) - hardly a healthy dinner! The absolutely only way I can deal with it is to make the decision to cut out the wine completely, and I've gone public to as many people as…
  • Congratulations to all those who've made it!! 18lbs to go for me and I just can't wait!
  • Good to know I'm not totally losing the plot! Maybe if I work really hard I can convince myself that even if I don't reach goal by my birthday in October I won't still look the way I do right now!
  • Brilliant and motivational post! Thank you.
  • That is truly amazing. Congratulations on such a fantastic achievement!
  • Fantastic result! You look great!
  • Hi - I'm Christine. Have been on MFP for 6 weeks properly (much longer improperly!) and am happily losing around 1lb a week to get to my goal loss of between 50-60lbs. I'm a yoyo weight loser and have been at my goal weight so many times I've lost count. Every time I put it back on, a little bit more joins it till I was at…
  • Love your blog and I can relate to so many of the 'before' statements - I still have to get to the after...... Oh, and why oh why, do people persist in saying you can still always buy shoes if you're overweight because your shoe size doesn't change??? IT DOES! Congratulations on your 100+ lbs
  • 12lbs gone so far and: I can do up my bra on the last hook, not the first - and it fits properly!
  • Brilliant - you should be so proud
  • So glad the craving's past for you! It's amazing what sleep can do for you (and what lack of sleep can do!). I'm in an interesting situation today. I'm having dinner at a close friend's house. This is a fairly frequent occurrence and we always have a lovely relaxed evening with lots of laughs. The thing is that I'd told…
  • Hi Martha That's really tough! I'm coming up to 6 weeks as well and dreading the time when I feel the desire again. Hasn't hit yet, but I have no doubt it will. And I agree that even just having one or two drinks seems to trigger the craving again - at least it always has for me in the past. That's why I'm just not having…
  • That is just superb! And such an inspiration!!
  • Glad you achieved what you wanted. Every win (NOT wine) counts!
  • Absolutely fantastic - an inspiration for me to break the 200 barrier as well!
  • Another older one here. 170 cm (5' 7") SW 105 kg (231 lbs) CW 99 kg (220 lbs) GW 72 kg (158 lbs)
  • No, not a weird connection at all. It's when I'm feeling tired and achy that I'm most tempted - I know alcohol is meant to be a depressant, but I find that when I'm feeling like that it actually livens me up. I have no idea how that works, but there you are! Good luck with your dinner - I'm sure you'll do fine.
  • Woohoo! 28 days down and still going strong.
  • Good for you for resisting! Those bad days are just sent to try us :-) Isn't it great though, being able to imagine the effects of giving in to the blow-out craving and then use that image to resist - it's such a huge step forward. And it is difficult still living with that fear of falling back into old habits. But, as…
  • Hi Ashleigh - good to have you on board, and good for you for taking that big step. And yes, I'm another one who gets straight into the food excesses once I break open the wine, so am glad to have cut it right out. Oh, and I've just posted a blog, so I'll share here as well, committing myself to no alcohol until 1 January…
  • Oh, and congratulations to those amazing people who've discovered when you can stop - I still daren't take the step of trying that, so I really admire you for it. One day.........
  • Good for you for getting back on track!! We've all been there, done that - and we're all here to help out when one of us does it again! Enjoy the tea - and keep up the good work!
  • I've spent the last 2 1/2 years unable to do any exercise at all, pretty much, but after two lots of surgery, I'm finally able to do more than just go to work, sit at the computer all day and then sit at the computer all evening. So yes, I am logging some stuff that others wouldn't think of as exercise (even my walk to and…
  • Wow - 21 days down and still going strong. I can't believe the energy I have now! This is going to sound really strange, but in some odd way I sort of miss my old, non-energetic life. I used to be able just to blob out at the weekend, reading, dozing and generally doing nothing much - now I'm constantly doing stuff! I'm…
  • You've described exactly how I am - and it's the learning to drink in moderation that's the hard part! I think the support here is just great though and am hoping that when I finally start to let myself have a glass of wine that will keep me on the straight and narrow! Good luck for your weekend
  • 62 here and losing nicely!
