  • Reading these just make me appreciate even more that I'm married and don't have to deal with awkward dates anymore, lol.
  • That sounds like a question only your doctor should answer.
  • I obsess too much and I need to stop. I'm in!
  • I'm sorry you have rude coworkers. My husband faces the same thing at work sometimes (he has a dairy allergy and a gluten intolerance)....he often can't eat ANY of the food others bring in, so he makes a brief appearance at parties/events but then leaves. Others also think he's weird for eating chicken and veggies for…
  • Hmmmm I don't remember this ever happening to me, but then again I haven't used a long-acting insulin in 4 years because I use an insulin pump, so maybe I just don't remember. I DO remember that I had to inject Lantus in a very fatty area because it sort of 'crystallizes' under the skin and if I did it in a leaner area I'd…

  • Simple answer: I don't buy them. If I don't buy them, I can't eat them. So for me it's all about having self-control and totally avoiding those aisles while at the grocery store.
  • I know what epigenetics is. I was not in any way referring to anything having to do with genetics or a change in genetics. I was referring to a hormonal imbalance that can cause one to feel hungry all the time because the hormone that signals 'I'm full' is not present or is deficient to a degree. Yes, maybe, down the line,…
  • Are you serious? The only reason someone overeats is because they overate in the past? You seriously need to get your head out of your butt and take a look around. There are a lot of reasons people overeat, and for some it has no connection to creating a habit of overeating. There are serious hormonal imbalances that turn…
  • The North Face (yes, can be expensive, but I work there so I get a 50% discount) or Target.
  • You said 'Settings of activity level have no meaning for MY amount...1200 is ALL I get give (before I do exercise)...no matter the setting. There are 4 of these.' I think the issue is you are talking about the fitness settings for setting up your diary. (Forgive me if I am wrong) That is NOT what the rest of us are talking…
  • Me too! Just finished week 1 today and I'm impressed by how well I am doing, considering I haven't run since high school gym class....
  • Unfortunately some of the weight you lost earlier was not due to TRYING to lose weight, but due to your body beginning its process of not producing insulin and thus you not being able to properly use carbohydrates. Many people lose a lot of weight before diagnosis. (I was 6 when diagnosed and lost 10 lbs.......for a 6 year…
  • Always before
  • Hi ladies, feel free to add me. I'm 27, 5'6", between 142 and 143 with a goal of 125. I'm losing soooooooo slowly it's starting to get very aggravating, so motivation and support is always nice.
  • I can relate to the retinopathy - I chose not to take care of myself during my first year or so in college and I developed proliferative retinopathy. I've gone through dozens of laser treatments and a vitrectomy (invasive surgery). One eye is now stable, but the other continues to have problems. Due to having so much laser…
  • I find it can be hard to make great choices there because the tastiest choices are highest in cals. I did enjoy a Mango Salad today, tho, and that was amazing and much lower cal than the nachos or burrito I normally get.
  • Oh yes, sorry - gastroparesis is serious stuff! Have you tried incorporating that into your medical necessity letters for the pump? (Since pumps can deliver meal-time insulin boluses over extended periods of time, I'd think it would be super helpful in your case!) Ugh, I'm just so frustrated on your behalf with how stupid…
  • At this point I have my account set to maintenance (1750). I then just eat under that level. That way I'm losing, but I don't feel bad if I'm not under 1200 a day or 1300 a day or whatever other number this thing would come up with for me. Typically I am eating about 1400, so a deficit of about 350 cals a day.
  • ^THIS. Old Navy Sweetheart jeans are about all I can wear cause I've got a big butt too, lol. I recommend you head to an Old Navy and try on a few pairs. You may run into the issue I have tho - I have to wear a belt because the jeans that fit in my butt, thighs, hips....are a bit too big in the waist. But at least I can…
  • It might help to measure things out, know the carbs, etc (like you are doing) and then give your shot before you eat - that way you don't forget to do it. I do this even with my pump, because I like to give my insulin about 10 minutes headstart time so that the timing of my food digesting meets up a little better with the…
  • So sorry to hear that! Medicaid programs can be difficult to work with in terms of getting a pump unless you are pregnant at the time (and then they just give you one for the pregnancy and say they won't pay for it afterwards, ugh). If you can afford it, I recommend looking into getting a private insurance plan next year…
  • I just want to say that in regards to the pump, DO NOT let your insurance company dictate what is or is not medically necessary. Get your doctor to write a formal Letter of Medical Necessity. Have him/her outline your history of A1cs, any complications you have, the COSTS that these are causing the insurance company, etc.…
  • Oh by the way, I don't know what insulin you use, but using Apidra in the t:slim is NOT approved and not recommended. The way that insulin is moved through the cartridge of the t:slim is different than in other pumps......actually the whole makeup of the cartridge is different. I have heard many cases of people having no…
  • I have been using my t:slim since September 2012. What I like most is the bright screen colors - I have some vision issues, and it can be hard to see other pump screens, especially in sunlight. I don't have that issue with the t:slim. What I like least is the way it doesn't reverse correct for blood sugars above 70. (For…
  • Congrats to you! Do what makes you happy and screw what other people think, lol! My hubby and I got married in Las Vegas in January. We had a small ceremony and did pictures - but that was it. No reception. Only 5 guests at our wedding. It was small and intimate and just what we wanted - even tho many people didn't…
  • I've been experiencing the same issue lately. I have found the only thing that helps me is to NOT buy the foods I know I will binge on (cookies, ice cream, chips/salsa, sugary cereals) and to insist to my husband that I don't NEED to go get ice cream or whatever sweet treat with him all the time (that guy has a…
  • Yes, I find it a very painfully slow process, and I find it far easier than it should be to gain back any weight lost. I don't know if I can attribute my issues with weight loss to diabetes or not though, as I also take a med for a heart condition which has drastically reduced my metabolism, and I am beginning to develop…
  • She needs to log if she wants to understand that she is NOT eating enough. I don't think she gets it. She is eating far too little and working it all off with exercise. Maybe seeing the numbers will jolt her into realizing she is eventually going to do damage to her body, if she hasn't already started to.
  • You are not eating nearly enough. Giving a rough estimate to what you listed, I think you are eating under 900 calories a day. For someone working out for hours a day.....you are likely burning off almost all of that. So....what exactly is your body running on? Nothing. That's why you are weak and tired. You need to log…
  • I have had Type 1 diabetes for 21 years. I also use an insulin pump. Feel free to add me!
