Sadly, it was a fluke. Oh well, such a dramatic change would be unhealthy, right?

runningintheusa.com They have more postings than active.com and easier to navigate. Good luck!

 Love it! I used to get shin splints from running. I tried the C25K program a couple years ago and NO PAIN. It makes a big difference to follow a training plan and SLOWLY increase time/distance. Take it easy on rest day, no cheating and don't overdo it. I highly recommend C25K podcasts from "Go Nicole…

Thanks for the responses. Cautiously optimistic.

Congrats! Time for a new license.

I am a big fan of granola bars. They are shelf-stable and you can eat them while walking to class. BEWARE OF CALORIES, some of those bars are packed with sugar. Anything ~100 calories is a good goal, I like Kashi trail mix bars. Good luck!

http://simplyrecipes.com/recipes/spicy_vegetarian_chili/ This one is very tasty. I entered it in a chili contest and won honorable mention. The roasted eggplant have a meaty texture and the cumin gives it a savory flavor.

Hi Dafrog, Your experience is not uncommon. :grumble: There are a number of "must reads" under General Diet and Weight loss. Here is one excerpt: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/6556-the-answers-to-the-questions Question #3: I'm doing "everything right" and the scale won't move. Answer #1: The scale is the devil.…

RE: C25K podcasts I LOVE Nicole Blum's C25K podcasts (not sure if I can post link but goggle that phrase and it will be top hit). Techno drives me a little nutty over time. Nicole plays a mix of hip-hop and pop, timed to the C25k workouts. C25K works if you stick with it. I have had shin splints my entire life. I started…

Hi Ashley, Welcome back. :) I'm struggling a bit with this too, so feel a bit hypocritical giving advice. My go to snack is CARROTS and HUMMUS. I get the big one pound bag of baby carrots and split them into 3-4 sandwich baggies so they're easier to grab and go. And the hummus fills me up better than yogurt. I also try to…

Hi all, I thought I'd try to resurrect this thread. I just started running triathlons this summer and would love to post and pick-up tips. 5 mile bike commute tonight followed by 40min run. Planning one more event this season, trying to decide between sprint or olympic distance (I know I can finish olympic but the spint is…

Thanks for the spinach recipe, I look forward to trying it and some of the other recipes from the site. So not to slight Tahini (I've heard there are a lot of health benefits to it), I recently tried this recipe from Alton Brown for "Turbo Hummus". He substitutes creamy peanutbutter for tahini. It has a lot of peanut…

Good links! Thanks petmonkey!

Bicycling and elliptical Try your Rec deptartment: - I don't know your community. I live in a bigger city and I found water aerobics classes through the local recreation department. It's a lot cheaper than a gym membership and by registering for a class I'm committed and I'm more likely to find time to go to that class…

By the way, active.com has a ton of tips/article for beginner triathletes. Some of it is actually helpful. http://www.active.com/triathlon/beginners

Bump, and a question. I also get GI issues after a race. Is there something I can do before/during the race to prevent this or is it just a result of the exertion? Thanks. (novie triathlete)

Congrats on entering your first tri! I ran my first tri last month and I'm totally hooked. I am competing Danskin this weekend. RVachon71 has some great advise. - Definately get some time in open water (if your race is in open water). I took a clinic to learn how to sight while breathing and get over fears. It was…

 Thanks for the giggle, even if it is at the expense of your Mii. Happy balance board-ing and stay free of Wii-juries.

I have had shin splints my entire life (due to very low arches). This is what I've learned: - Ditto on the running store. It is worth every penny. - If it is still bad, you could consider seeing an orthopedist. Mine was able to write a Rx for custom insoles so my insurance will cover them. And the number one rule: SLOW…

So i got a stupid idea a couple years ago to run a 5K cold... in Nov... in Wisconsin. Never again. The temp was ~30F and it was snowing lightly. My body was not conditioned to running outside in the cold, I felt like i was having an asthma attack the entire time(I do not have asthma) and I ended up walking most of…

Sidetracked by foot pain last week and took a step back, bought some serious shoes, etc. Got back onto week4 last night. I'm super-motivated by everyone's posts. Keep going. According to "Rob" of C25K site, most people drop out around week 4 or 5. http://www.c25k.com/finishing.htm We're just about to the hump (except…

I gained up to 4lbs last month.

I get the same cramps in my feet occasionally, especially during pigeon pose. I usually pause, take a minute to stretch out my feet (before they really cramp up), and sink back into the leg stretch. How long do the cramps last? Minutes, hours, days? What type of exercise were you doing? Does it help to do additional cool…

Ewwww. that Tom! I know I had more than 1 cheat day during his visit last month. Props to you for limiting to the fresco menu.

Hope it went well and congrats!

Started W3 on Monday. I've been going by podcasts and not checking the workouts so I was surprised at the first long interval, I thought for sure it was a glitch in the recording. All it all, not bad. W3D1 was a lot easier than last week when i tried to run after my strength workout!

One word: Podcasts! There is no thinking or planning or freaking out. I have no idea what is next and I don't want to know. Like you, I'll just psych myself out. I started W3 monday and kept thinking "Nicole" must really like Michael Jackson 'cause this song is going FOREVER. Now I understand they throw a couple…

Sorry to start with the obvious, have you talked to your trainer about your concerns? Typically, the way to bulk up is fewer repititions with a very heavy weight. If you want lean muscle, use a lighter weight for more repititions. Start by discussing your concerns with your trainer. If they are unwilling to modify your…

Congrats Ash! Keep going, it gets easier. :)

Ditto, jlb123. Even regular runners take recovery days. Running M-F when you are new to the exercise could cause you a lot of pain. The program is set up to progress slowly so you only need to run 3 days a week to see improvedment. Take Tues and Thurs off for some crosstraining (bike, aerobics, etc) to give your knees a…
