Is there a Garmin (or other brand) of watch that integrates with RunKeeper? And I'm not talking about gps exports of routes, I mean as I run it records directly to RunKeeper? I'd like to replace my big-*kitten* Android phone with a watch and a mini MP3 player with BT headphone support...unless there's a watch that can run…

Ha!

I'll have what you're having, esp if you're buying!

A glass of whisky - I'll do bourbon or Scotch. I'll usually eat some shelled pistachios or almonds to prevent the munchies and other bad habits from taking over.

OK, so am I the only one that thought ED was 'erectile dysfunction' and not 'eating disorder?'

Dude, rock it! It's going to take a LONG time for your brain to catch up to your body when it comes to your self-image. Imagine your friends will be the same way.

Yes, as in both are important. And neither - you can lose weight by just sticking to a good diet. Now that we have that generic advice out of the way, if you trust your Dr, I would listen to what s/he has to say. And listen to yourself, you've lost 66 pounds, so you already know a lot. I lift twice a week and do cardio…

I love the feeling of conquering the hill after I've ran it...passing people helps too :)

I spend so much time in an office chair, I try to do SOMETHING every day.

I think I get buzzed faster. Which I don't understand as I'd think my metabolism would be faster not slower, but there it is.

I usually find a grilled chicken and veggie dish - but the grilled veg is usually cooked in an oil bath...but black beans aren't so bad. My problem is the chips - they're my achilles heel. I bargain with myself and get an Ice-T sans sugar and eat just a few chips vs my old routine of a large margarita and 2 bowls of chips.…

Nice! The fact that you're still running after a year is a nice victory as well. Keep it up!

What a neat concept @Slatzuk...and there just happens to be one within spitting distance http://www.parkrun.us/durhamnc/ Not sure it's for me, but I'll keep it in mind!

How much do you want to spend? I bought a pair that the US Olympic team uses to train. They're Bluetooth and they fit very, very well. The sound is also very good. http://www.jaybirdgear.com/bluebuds-x-bluetooth-headphones/ I went through 3 pairs of cheaper motorola's and I decided to up my budget a bit. These have been…

So everyone is pretty much in agreeance ;) I'll check out Hall's stuff - thanks everyone!

did the C25k program - and I literally went from couch (no running!) to doing 5k's a couple times a week. It works!

This should be pinned somewhere, or framed, or made into a public service announcement. Also, has everyone already read The Oatmeal's take on why he runs? He definitely eats back his exercise calories :)
-
What she said! I lost maybe 20 pounds over the 3 months I did the C25K app? That was watching calories too, around 2k/day. After I progressed through the program I continued to run 3x/week, about a 5k each time. I continued to lose weight, maybe another 25 lbs, taking me down to the 240's. When I added weights via CrossFit…

It's worked for me. I go twice a week. I've never been in a spot where I've gotten hurt based on the 'competitive' nature of the sport. It's expensive, yes. But it's also very close to what you'd get for paying a personal trainer.
-
The 'official' app was setup for 3 days/week, that's what I ended up doing.
-
Don't look ahead! When I got to the 20 minutes straight day I freaked out a bit. Then I went out and ran it. Felt pretty damn good about myself afterwards. They've got this system down - it works!
-
2 things: + it quit raining in Cary, NC for a few minutes so I ran out and got my 3+ miles in :) + it's cool that RunKeeper is integrated with myfitnesspal now!

The weather in Ohio keeps that state, and several others, off of my 'places to live' list. The worst it gets down here is the pine pollen in the spring and down in the 30-40's in the Winter.

It's possible. It's also harder. Even if you track/count your booze cals, you have to remember that drinking puts one in a mind to eat salty/fatty/yummy foods. So keep good snacks on hand. I went on a 4 month beer fast to kick off my fitness plan last year. But I had win/whisky, 1-2 drinks every other day or so, and had no…

Thanks everyone for confirming my suspicions :)

Sounds like the personal trainer you had was super creative :noway:

Anytime I visit my sis in Charlotte, the streets are packed with runners, so you're not alone! Here in Raleigh (Cary actually), I try to run in the morning before it gets bad. But often times I'm running in the humid afternoon and just take it at an easier pace than normal.
-
Right now I'm staring at the rain coming down, wishing I could be running. But I think I'll wait for the rain to just stop or let up a bit and have a nice wet run. I never think, well I could use the treadmill at the gym. I wonder how many treadmillers think the exact opposite way - have never really ran outdoors?
-
What he said - thanks for letting us know and thanks to myfitnesspal for making this happen :)

On my 2nd pair now - love 'em!
