Give it a shot Jessie..most CrossFit gyms are super-open to new folks. I had zero experience going into it, weightlifting or gymnastics, and I was made to feel very welcome and unjudged.
-
Gotcha. Calisthenics as a general category is easier to log at the end of the day.
-
calisthenics you say...thanks much 3dogsrunning. I do find it interesting there are 47 different kids of tacos in the database, but just one entry for body movements. Just me?

Just reading the words 'fish oil' makes me want to throw up. I wake up at 5:20 for a 6AM class, and I only have water - but everyone's different. Just do what feels right/good.
-
Sorry, it's 25%, and only for nano 3.0 shoes... NANO3 25% off nano 3.0
-
I personally do not. I just try to drink a big glass of water when I wake up a little bit after 5 in case I'm dehydrated from the night before.

It was fun. We had a team of about 20 and ran the course together. Some of the obstacles were very fun. More than a couple were on the lame side. But a nice alternative to the longer, crazy harder mudders. Not sure it was worth the $75, but it was a good day.

I just go out and run. But I get tired of the same music. And i get tire of the same routes. Live and let run.

I apologized for posting so much of my RunKeeper stuff on FB, and said I would quit. But I got quite a few messages from people asking me not to. They had been inspired to 'also get off the couch' and start running. One friend even beat me by a few months for his first half-marathon. So, I continue to post my runs, and now…

No probably about it. Or at least in my case, twice - but hopefully no more!
-
THIS!
-
Yes, and you're right - it's a never ending struggle. As soon as I quit struggling, I balloon back up. I've read that it takes 60 day to set new habits into place. I've tried to make maintaining a habit - primarily by continuing my exercise routines and not eating junk. I've stopped calorie counting - on paper - and have…

50kg thrusters - utterly destroy me

5 mile run over 45 minutes, in the rain :) Tomorrow is CrossFit, woohoo.

Previous neighborhood had no sidewalks and was on a very busy street. New subdivision has sidewalks and greenways. The new neighborhood is encouraging me NOT to be fat.

Thanks everyone! It appears that many of us runners are also not comfortable interacting with others. An interesting psych study perhaps. Correlation or just general pop...
-
If someone offered me a 'shave,' I think I'd just run faster - in the opposite direction! I'm just talking about a simple nod of the head, or a hand/wrist up... I'm the same person that gets mad if I don't get a wave after letting someone into traffic, so maybe the problem is mine.
-
I also see motorcyclists wave at the risk of injury whenever they pass another fellow rider. Maybe folks are too busy concentrating on their work-out, but I tend to think folks are just becoming more anti-social, or societal norms have changed and I'm officially old-fashioned.
-
That could turn into a fun game of chicken, lol.

Put your gym clothes on. This will psyche you up for the challenge. Every day I don't feel like running, lacing up my running shoes kind of 'flips the switch' in my mind.
-
For me, I tried to keep up with the same running schedule, 3 days a week of at least 3miles each run. That has mostly held true here almost 18 months later. Now I'm running 4-5 miles on my longer runs and a 5k on the shorter ones. I've signed up for a half marathon next year and will start training for that in the Spring.
-
This! I need to work on this. For 5 miles it gets sore. I imagine when I work my way up to 13.1 I won't be able to get away with it anymore.
-
I use clothes as motivation, but a bit differently. After I reached my goal weight, I bought a super-expensive pair of jeans and a leather jacket. Now I'm motivated to make sure they always fit! So reward and maintain vs something to look fwd to or punish yourself with...

I ate and drank whatever I wanted, and quit exercising. Bad combo.
-
This! Although I'll munch on almonds or pistachios too.

Tell Jimmy John's to hold the mayo and suddenly the veggie and turkey subs aren't that bad. I hold the cheese on my turkey and get hot peppers instead - a great sandwich. Now where I get into trouble is the chips. I'm a potato chip'oholic. Subway is nice b/c they have Baked Lays.
-
My wife says it's as tough as her CrossFit classes. Maybe more reps and at lower weights, but she loves it.
-
Thanks everyone! I'm looking fwd to many spring rainy training days to be ready to run in Seattle :)
-
I'm interesting in hearing more about this. What would you recommend instead? I tend to tell people who ask me about running to check out C25K, because it worked for me too.

I kicked off my health journey with a 3 month fast in the beer department. It really helped me to limit myself to 1 or 2 a few times a week instead of 2-3 every night. A small different that makes a big impact over time. I haven't given anything up, I just trade food cals for booze cals and vice versa :)
