Recent months been drinking loose leaf tea, far tastier than tea bags (and supposedly cheaper).

Been Vegetarian for 25 years, and take it from me, you can still get fat being a veggie! 5:2 didn't work for me, I may have lost a lb or two to start with but nothing more. These days, I just log food and exercise to keep an eye on what I'm eating, I think MFP helps to educate me as to what is a reasonable amount of food…

As with most in the UK, I just drink black tea (mines strong, with milk, no sugar). I do like a (100%) peppermint tea when I have a cold, just to take the edge off. which reminds me, its about time for a brew...

Are you not drinking coffee at the same time? As you've already experienced, coffee withdrawal gives the nastiest symptoms. I'd say giving up caffeine is harder than nicotine, either eat less or give up the coffee, don't do both at the same time. As for giving up food entirely, that's just dangerous! Have a look at the 5:2…

Seeing pictures of myself and remembering what it was like to lose my father to a stroke (I would do anything to save my children from having to go through that).

I do to measure my resting HR. Its usually too difficult for me when I'm exercising as I'm jiggling about too much and might fall off my bike if I take my hands off the handlebars :P . I find the strap an easier and safer option.

I have an Adidas MiCoach Bluetooth HRM (just the monitor not the super expensive watch), I use this with my watch, but it will also work with a smartphone (runkeeper, Strava etc. record your hrm data and make estimates of calorie burn). The chest-straps on the BT HRM's are generally a soft strap and the monitor itself…

I can fluctuate by 4lbs depending on my exercise but what I feel makes the biggest difference is the types of food I eat. On the weekends, I tend to eat whatever is available, so often its lots of bread and stodgy foods and generally larger portions, so I see a rise as I'm literally carrying more food in my gut than I…

My UP died after 3 months, got it replaced and the replacement died after another 3 months. Couldn't be bothered to ask for a replacement as I didn't want to spend the rest of my life chasing up aftersales asking where my replacement band was

Couldn't you just share your portions with someone else? If a salad is 1000cal then surely you can split it with someone else and still have a sizeable portion. Its a shame in the West meals in restaurants we all get individual plates and food isn't presented like it is in Chinese restaurants, it doesn't matter what you…

I use a mixture of Runkeeper (as it syncs automatically with MyFitnessPal) and strava, if you don't have gps, you can even plot out your route on the map in runkeeper and enter your hrm data. I just upload tcx and gpx files from my computer and let it do the rest. To get strava to sync workouts with MFP I've been using…

My partner is free to do what she likes, all I did was warn her that there had been sexual assaults in the area and what she was doing was putting herself and my two small children in danger. If you read the last bit, several women WERE sexually assaulted in the same fields that she was going to walk though at the time I…

I personally like to go hiking alone (no one else daft enough to come with me) but I generally stick to well used popular trails with lots of people on them. I wouldn't go out into the wilderness alone, all it would take is a slip or a trip and you could wind up in dire straits alone with no help and miles from anywhere.…

Not wanting to hijack this thread, but seriously, has anyone ever come across another runner who looks down on you for not being a semi-pro? I seriously cannot think of ever coming across anyone who didn't want to encourage me and thought it was great I was doing what they love. The only time I have ever heard people get…

I often forget about the whole agility and coordination, almost like ballet on rock. Watching a climber gracefully scale a wall is preferable to watching some sweaty bloke grunt a few weights in a gym. As for cost, join a club and get outdoors, its free to climb outdoors, at least until the other members start badgering…

It's the best time to start! Perfect excuse to getaway from the family  The only time I've been to the roaches was a walking trip, it was painful to go past it on such a lovely glorious day and see all the climbers.

Join a climbing club and take up rock climbing. It's far healthier, you make some great friends (you have to as your life is in each others hands, literally) and you get to sample the great outdoors from a unique vantage. Failing that, take up bouldering or go to an indoor wall (safer but not as much fun). Either way, far…

Pretty much the same, being cycling to work and back since June. Also 12+12 miles, saving £40 (I guess gas/petrol is more expensive in the UK). As of today, lost 17lbs (lowest I've been since I had a dodgy thyroid). Not only is it cheaper and more fun (apart from dodging the occasional idiot driver in their 2 ton killing…

Just get out and do it, once you get into your stride, you won't really care. Often I'm on such an endorphin high during a run that if I get any laughs (usually from teenagers) I just play along and pretend I'm crossing the finishing line (arms in the air and chest puffed out) it usually gets a good cheer and they know…

I didn't really answer the original question did I? Just get out there and do the cardio and build up sensibly, if you can only run a mile, just do a mile and gradually extend the distance from there. If you used to cycle a lot, you'll hopefully find you get back to your previous fitness levels quicker than it took you the…

From the OP it looks like you're talking stamina rather than strength. For building up my stamina it's long cardio sessions, like running or cycling (or swimming if you're that way inclined). I use rock climbing for strength, but this requires lots of stamina as well, so is the best of both worlds, but coupled with cardio…

You've got me thinking about a full english now... not good when I haven't eaten my dinner yet!

Isn't that an omelette? or maybe an egg foo yung? (depending on how well you manage to turn it) Sounds good though, just wish I had the time. You can't beat an omelette and toast for brekkie!

I know people go on about the benefits of Banana's (I I truly love them) but if I have one mid workout, they make me tired and I get a dip in performance. Is this just me?

Chocolate milkshake and a protein bar when I arrive at work after my 12 mile cycle in this morning. Don't usually have time for anything at home, usually slurp an energy gel as well just to give me a pick me up when I set off (it makes a huge difference, usually adds 5-10 minutes extra on my commute if I miss out on the…

Definitely recommend having your gait analysed, most decent running shops will provide this service, often for free. When I got my shoes, they didn't even need to use the machine, they just took one look at my bare feet when I stood on the floor and knew I had flat feet. As for the fractures, it may be possible. I have a…

Off to amazon I go then...

That's what I was expecting to hear. I expect the pros will say the only way to do this accurately is to get the callipers out and make the measurements around the body.

+1 for a cycle (stationary or bicycle). This is an excellent, low impact cardio that will blitz those calories. IMO its not about the steps, 10k just tells us we are getting enough in to burn enough calories to maintain a healthy weight (as long as we aren't eating too much). Its a good indicator of how active we are, as…

You may have just reached a plataeu, which is totally normal. At a basic level, your body has gotten used to the exercise you are doing. Often a change in your routine is required/recommended to shake you out of it. Google Plateau's for more advice than I could ever give.
