  • Happy Sunday all! Man, am I sore after 4B1! Going to go out for a run shortly to try to work some of the soreness out...I got some new minimalist running shoes (new balance) that I am looking forward to using for lifting as well.
  • Good morning all - hope you all have excellent weekend plans! I lifted this am and did treadmill warm up and 5 min of intervals. Tonight is date night. Really need to limit the alcohol given my airport extravaganza yesterday. Jessica - I really laughed that your kids are "happy to be fed". Maybe I just don't let my kids…
  • 1. Can't really work in on the squat rack...too hard to change the plates. It needs to be something like the lat pull machine where you are just moving a pin. 2. Yes, you hover. If its something like the lat machine, a set is not long to wait and people will just finish their set. The more tough call is if someone is…
  • additional reps at a lower weight for your weaker arm is a good suggestion. I would try to do the 15 reps with a rest in the after your weaker arm gives out. Do not do additional work on your rest day. Rest days are very important for building strength!!

  • Hi cool kids! good news: my food choices have been relatively healthy today (did not have second breakfast, ate lean meats, skipped potatoes, bran muffin instead of something worse). bad news: travel day means no exercise, I drank a few glasses of wine, my "vitamin water" had 120 calories (?!?!) TBD: if this plane delay…
  • Hi all - My problem is that often my no-exercise days are most frequently my travel days. And my travel days are most often (besides date night) by wine-drinking days. I am trying not to worry about it too much (as I was under yesterday with a double workout) but I am kind of bummed because I often weigh my lowest after…
  • I totally agree!!!
  • great answer MOS! OP - dont be intimidated....JUST DO IT!!
  • Beck - were you sore starting stage 4? I was surprised how sore I was since I did not take any time off between stages. I lift tomorrow.!

  • semira - I am confused by the statement "I am eating above me TDEE (1750)". If you do that, you will gain weight. However, I don't think that is what you are doing. 1390X1.6=2224 on non-workout days. That's your TDEE. What is 1750?
  • 1. I agree with cowgirl that you have not gained 6 pounds of muscle, but it could be retained water for muscle repair. 2. What was your calorie consumption before starting? if you upped your calories significantly, it can cause water weight gain due to more food volume. 3. I can understand why you would be bummed about…
  • Kelly - great job on getting a good workout in this am! Now you can enjoy the rest of your day! Hope your bloodwork test comes out well! beeps - I agree, getting to the gym is the key...whatever happens there is ALL good. so, this am I did my jog/sprint/jog workout. Had a sprint partner this am, which was SO awesome!…
  • Jessica - booyeah for *real* push-ups! Kentucky is a beautiful state! Sue - enjoy Maine. Long drives after lifting aren't so much fun...but better than after a long run! CPH - congrats on the progress. 125 on dead lifts is AWESOME! Non-workout progress is cool too! LJane - foam rolling helps DOMS, too. My experience is…
  • I agree that given the choice, women wd choose the former. The problem is that they stay at the latter because they use "too much muscle" as an excuse. Op - nice work and great post!
  • Mary - want to get up with me? I generally lift at 6. Today is a sprint workout and Saturday is lifting...not at 6 on a Saturday, though!
  • magpie - 1. eventually, you will want to get to the point that you are struggling, but not in stage 1. Getting the form down is very important. 2. if you are being sufficiently challenged right now, stick with the bodypump bars to get comfortable with free weights. When you are ready, though, you just are going to have to…

  • Hi Jessica - I see the chicago skyline behind you. do you live there? Did you finish NROLFW or just taking a break? I started in January (for about the 4th time in 3 years) and am currently starting stage 4. I also do lots of cross training like running, spin, and soccer. Welcome back! Beeps - the problem with a broken…
  • chic - I think that LC would work! You are going to enjoy it...I say move it up! gadenni - that is so funny that you "lost count"! I guess you don't follow the "absolute, inviolable rule" of keeping a training log! Glad to have you in sync with this group starting stage 4!

  • if you are at the beginning of stage 1, you should be doing 15 reps with each leg. 15 with your non-dominant leg followed by the same number for your dominant leg. that drops to 12 reps, then 10, then 8 for the rest of stage 1. If you feel like you should do more reps, increase your weight.
  • Alf - so sorry to hear about your Dad. It must be a very difficult time for you. My heartfelt condolences go out to you and your family. We are here for you when you regroup... Kelly - lots of walking for you! Great!! newbeg - sounds like you had a great weekend! Way get rewarded for your weight loss...for free!! this am I…
  • lveh8 - I am totally with you on the length of the workouts! I often have to cut it short because I run out of time. I can't sit around for 105 seconds though. I usu do 75-90 between sets. Just started stage 4 this am...its awesome to go back to the stage 2 lifts!

  • Hi all - I did my first stage 4 workout this am. I SO loved it. The moves felt familiar and I was able to pick up where I left off in stage 2. I felt really strong! Beck, I did 3 sets of everything, except I ran out of time at the end. I agree with you that comfort with the moves makes it easier to progress with the…

  • Manic - I can't imagine how hard it must be to diet if you gain eating 1600-1800 calories. I hope heavy lifting helps, sorry you are having a tough month. Emgel - >:-( Beeps - glad you are able to enjoy the gym w your daughter! Sue - I was the same on incline presses w 35s. Two workouts in a row I tried and could not do a…
  • Take a look at jo_marnes thread fspp wtf? There is a lot of helpful stuff in there incl videos.
  • Jo and Ljane - that is COMBINED. Two 10-pounders. I always record combined weight. I totally started too heavy because the day of the first workout, the 7.5s were missing. My form still needs improvement after the whole stage! I think the YWTLs are the hardest lift of the entire program. LJane - I am totally with you on…

  • good morning ladies!! Did my third sprint workout this am. I actually got through the entire workout this time, so I am improving! My body is thanking me for the two day rest. I can't wait to lift tomorrow. Manic - I see your bodyfit on your arm. I am getting one this week! Any advice? bummer about the brownies!! has your…
  • Good morning all - it's going to be an awesome day! I got up and did my 3 miles of jogging and 2 miles of sprinting workout. Now I am enjoying a 2 egg breakfast! I did not workout the past two days. Sticking to 1500 cals is really tough for me (especially when I have a couple of glasses of wine) but weight was down this…
  • kelly - I love love LOVE tater tots! what is underneath them? the ice cream pie sounds divine!! Does your daughter generally eat more healthy when she is not going for the "comfort food"? beeps - she did take her home. then I disinfected EVERYTHING. please please please, let no one else get sick!!! good luck with your…
  • Sue - OMG, why did i think you were in Florida...your biker pic? I lived in NYC for about 3 years and had the typical love/hate relationship with The City. When I first moved there, I lived at 55th and Broadway...Times Square has changed SO much in the last 20 years. I remember one saturday morning, I was strolling to a…
