  • QOTD - my husband and oldest are out of town on Sunday, so I think I will let my girls make me breakfast in bed. I hope it will be nice enough to get some yardwork done. I definitely don't want to fight any crowds, so maybe we will go out for burritos...wish I lived close enough to my mom...she is GREAT for CHEAT days.…
  • Oh never mind...I am not impressed. I did it 3 times. I can come up with something better. Sam, Sam, Sam. What are we going to do with you?!? Celtic - hi! Zaftig - THAT'S what I should have done! Em - Two hours to get home?! Where do you live? You CAN get up and work out...just go to sleep at a reasonable time.
  • rsharper - your working leg should start parallel to the ground, so it depends how long your legs are. I use 6 risers.

  • seven [eight...the NYT can't count!] minute workout>>> http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/05/09/the-scientific-7-minute-workout I am going to do this 2x during my daughter's soccer practice tonight...
  • lhergenr - I would do your two sets and then start your planned workout, since that's the way stages 1-5 work. Is 7 different? i dont think it will matter that much. doing them B2B will also limit the chances someone else will jump in on the squat rack. cowgirl - why do you think they were staring...jeally? i would grumble…
  • Excellent work!
  • Really, you need to make sure that you get enough protein (.75-1 gram per pound of body weight) and then after that, you need to go with what keeps you satisfied and within your calorie limit. Fat and protein will keep you satisfied longer, but, if you're like me, carbs taste good.
  • I politely disagree with the above. If the OP is, say 250 pounds, she DOES need to do both. A slight calorie deficit is not the way to go in this situation, would recommend 500+ calories. Fat loss does not mainly come from clean eating...it comes from a reasonable calorie deficit. OP - yes, this program can work for you if…
  • you have one great bod! congrats on your progress!
  • you don't go back to 15 reps in stage 2...just 10. Keep your same weights.
  • my suggestions: 1. keep at it! This is a regular comment for the step-ups, lunges and deadlifts. Now that I am in stage four, its much less of an issue. 2. if you need to, pause and restart. I actually always pause between my left and right legs because I get winded during step-ups 3. try doing "farmers walks": pick up 25…

  • its possible the wide grip will require going down in the weights. I agree with deks, though, lower only if you need to.

  • shoulder pain? My boob is three inches under my clavicle (collarbone). Jo - I would LOVE to be a doula or a midwife! I think birth is so amazing. It must be a hard job, though. Will you get to stay close to where you are now when you get placed? Kids...wish they had an autopilot button: set it and forget it, not "put on…

  • I just want to say that I LOVE this discussion. Thank you everyone who posted!
  • deks - I think its because a lot of people quit/decide to do other things. You all should participate in the daily chat thread, too! I try to lurk on the prior threads (I am in stage 4) to keep it from getting too quiet! blacknivory - That is a powerful realization...what is great is that increasing fitness is just a…

  • sam - I know I babysat a toddler when I was 11 and I just wonder "what were those parents thinking!?!?" My 12 year old is very responsible. I leave them home, one at a time, for a short periods (20-30 minutes), but more than one and I really have to think about it. There is no reason to think they would wake up while I was…
  • beck - I was having problems with left shoulder pain for quite a while...it was a nerve thing for me. it hurt right on the corner of my shoulder when i lifted my arm (the ywtls were bad!). I got relief by massaging the area between my shoulder blade and my spine with whatever i could find. At home I used a tennis ball,…

  • QOTD: I am PC at work, mac at home. Blackberry for the parents, ipods for the kids. Oh, and I have an ipad, too! So this weekend I did not get a workout on Saturday or Sunday, as we were away for a soccer tournament. I really enjoyed getting a little extra sleep. Yesterday was supposed to be a lifting day, but my sprint…
  • sue - Remember to use momentum for the move...you should be all the way up on your toes at the end. Also, you should be able to use more of your stronger back muscles for this move than the FSPP because of where the dumbbells are starting.
  • hi all - no star for me this week. However, that's because i exercised a lot and burned a ton of calories, so I had "room." sue - yea for being back on track and yea for old clothes fitting! boo for you losing weight right through your fave suit! ;-) sam - wow...that sounds like a crappy day!!...but a great workout!
  • I do not wait the full 105 seconds...more like 75-90 seconds. I agree with everyone that I don't have time for all of that standing around. However, I would encourage you all to increase your rest times, as it really can make a difference in how hard you can work. Remember the goal is to increase strength, keep good form…
  • That IS interesting. Has anyone looked at the "drop two sizes" book? I haven't even heard of it. I am also losing weight and gaining strength. Hard to understand why a "menu" approach wd be better. I do think the abs component of nrolfw could be improved.
  • Congrats beck! See you next week!

  • If you think about it, the muscles used for chest press and push ups are the same. Make sure you are making the needed modifications and do all of your reps so that you improve. Courtnie - the planks do get easier, but then you up the time, so you are right back in the "I hate (;;&(;/@ planks" mode.

  • Eve - I def lose the post- workout soreness as I progress through a stage...but then it comes back when I start anew stage. Mixing it up is one of the best things about this program. I am concerned that the squats hurt your lower back. They should not. Perhaps you need to stay more erect? It's ok to feel the rows mostly in…

  • I seriously doubt that lifting for a few months will cause your period to stop, but there are a lot of hormonal things going on, so it could change your regularity. As someone who has never been normal, I think that, as long as you are not having unprotected sex and your preganancy test are negative, there is very little…
  • Good morning everyone! I enjoyed sleeping in this am...soccer tonight! Date night last night...while I made good food choices, I did go overboard on calories. I also had 2 glasses of wine. That is it for me for the weekend! QOTD: hard to pinpoint how long we dated, as I was still engaged to fiance #1 when we started…
  • Jo - no need to fear a bit of weight gain...remember you came to this "a bit underweight". so, this am I did 4B4...man I have no idea how I burned the time between 515a and 6a, but only had time to do two sets today: WG deadlift from box: 115x8x1; 135x8x2 (bad math on the first set again...argh) BSS: 60x10x2 lat pulldown:…

  • Hey everyone - got to burn some extra cals tonight line judging for my daughters soccer game. After that, all I could think was "I earned an ice cream cone". Thank God my kids misbehaved, so no stop for ice cream. Came home and had a turkey sandwich! Tomorrow's QUESTON: what is the best movie you have seen in the past year?
