  • Oatmeal is one of my favorite meals for breakfast. I use old fashioned oats (1/2 cup uncooked), 1/5 apple, 12-13 almonds, Splenda and cinnamon. Its a generous portion and keeps me satisfied for hours.
  • I like my BodyMedia Core. Syncing data and charging the device is quick and easy. I've had mine for several months and the only issue I have had is breaking the armbands.
  • I use the Bodymedia Core because it monitors your sleep. The only time I take it off is when I put it on the charger in the morning while I'm getting ready for work. While exercising, I also wear a Polar FT7 HRM so I can monitor my heart rate. I haven't had any issues with the Bodymedia Core, but my transmitter for the…
  • That's what I would like to hear from my Physician next month. Great job Scott!
  • Check out HEAL YOUR HEADACHE by David Buccholz, M.D. I'm about two-thirds of the way through the book and found the information on trigger foods interesting. My physician recommended that I read it because I have been having visual disturbances from migraine and he said our diets can play a huge role with these issues.
  • My physician changed my BP meds a couple of times due to side effects, but no problems with hydrochlorothiazide.
  • Bowflex advanced workout and 1.5 mile walk
  • Scott, I had to purchase an extra large lunch box also. All those fruits and vegetables take up a lot of space.
  • I break out the dehydrator for anything beyond two nights. I don't like to pack with more than 70 pounds on my back. Ray Jardine's books on lightweight backpacking provide some food suggestions and tips on reducing the load.
  • I carry trail mix, jerky and apple wedges on every outing. On long hikes, I usually carry Mountain House freeze-dried foods, whole fruits and bagels.
  • Muscle ache can be expected with a change in activity, but pain in your knees is a different story. I would stop doing whatever is causing the knee pain and find a low impact exercise.
  • I entered my own workout [Advanced General Workout (Bowflex)] under the Cardiovascular category. I track the time and calories burned using a heart rate monitor. The Bowflex Extreme 2 allows me to combine a cardiovascular and strength workout into one because I can move quickly from each exercise. Usually I'll start with a…

  • Awesome job! It's amazing how much better a person feels after eating healthier and being more active.
  • Use 'DASH - Green Avocado Smoothie' in the search as there are a lot of avocado smoothie's listed.
  • Low Sodium Smoothie Green Avocado Smoothie (added to MFP food search) 1 cup chopped kale 3/4 - 1 cup water 1 green apple 2 small kiwifruit, peeled and halved 1 small avocado, pitted, peeled, and chopped 1 tangerine, peeled and separated into segments 3-4 ice cubes Place the kale and water in a blender. • This is the best reply I have read yet. Thank you.
  • Most of the time I conceal a Ruger LCP .380 pistol. On outdoor adventures I also pack either a Springfield Armory XDM .40 S&W pistol or Taurus .41 magnum revolver.
  • My second biggest fear is having to kill something when my life in imminent danger.
  • I like the Annie's Naturals also. A while back I picked up the Roasted Red Pepper and it was delicious, but it has over 200 mg of sodium in one serving. Glad to hear they have some low sodium salad dressings.
  • Watching the flames of a campfire or fish swimming in an aquarium works for me. When I take a rest during a hike or walk, I'll sit under a tree in a quiet location and observe, or fall asleep if I get too relaxed.
  • Look who's laughing now!
  • I hope your recovery goes well. I've been following the DASH diet since April 16 for high blood pressure and I'm pleased with the results so far. The past 10 years I have been dealing with hypertension and obesity issues. Every two to three years I make several trips to the urologist for kidney stone issues. The MFP…
  • Great job. How did your immediate family react after you lost 33 pounds?
  • Here's a green smoothie that might be of help 2 cups spinach 2 large kale leaves, chopped (1.5 cups) 3/4 cup water 1 large frozen banana, chopped 1/2 cup frozen mango 1/2 cup frozen peach 1 tablespoon ground flaxseeds 1 tablespoon almond butter or peanut butter, optional Start by blending the spinach, kale and water on a…
  • When my insurance quit covering one of my BP meds, my doctor switched me to amlodipine which caused my feet and lower legs swell more. It got so bad that blood would seep from my lower legs and ankles. A $40 pair of compression socks helped with the swelling but I was amazed at how I reacted to the new med. I used to drink…
  • It seems like there's always a trade off when it comes to foods. Blood pressure is my priority so I'm focused on the low sodium foods. I'm concerned about my weight and the fat in foods but rarely purchase fat free products because they are usually too high in sodium. Convenience products usually trip me up on sodium…
  • The two ounce serving of deli ham I added today recorded 1500 mg for sodium, but it was actually 540 mg. I double checked the brand, description...everything was the same except for the nutrition information. Thanks for the tip on watching the MFP nutrition info.
  • Thanks for sharing your find on low -sodium cheeses.
  • Hypertension, weight loss and sodium intake are a problem for me. Nearly a year ago, my doctor recommended that I try the DASH diet. I purchased The DASH DIET Action Plan by Marla Heller (dashdiet.org) and it includes a 28 day menu for 1200 calories per day. When I started tracking sodium through the MFP food tracker, I…
