I bet they have scales - ask them to weight it before and after. Then you could use the following formula: calories after gutting = calories before gutting * weight after gutting / weight before gutting

Way to go! At 18 I was 200 pounds. I am 46 now and my first goal is to hit the 1's myself.

My take is that - calorie wise - you can eat anything you want as long as you meet your target calorie count goal. My calorie target is 1750 - so I could eat 1750 calories worth of snicker's bars if I wanted. But it wouldn't keep me full and it would not be good for me. But hey - sometimes - a fully loaded burger is good…

I started out using the iPhone app and didn't know about the forums or that anyone else cared about what I ate. I made mine public, and I find it interesting to read others food diaries. But who cares? Or, who should care? I am here for rme - the forums and communities are an interesting diversion.

Ok, so I looked up Bisquick on Wikipedia - it has flour, shortening, salt, and baking soda. So the only downside of using it would be the shortning I guess. But I would every now and then would be ok.

And women are the most straightforward, basic creature on the planet eh?

EA Sports Active is also great! It kicked my butt today!

For me too it has been a gradual change and I agree a gradual change is best. But when comparing where I am now to where I began this journey many months ago - it has been a massive, life changing process. And I still have a long way to go. I started at such a base of ignorance - not having a clue. I am an intelligenet…

Thank you and I agree - because I was that person. Honestly, I fell into this by accident having lost weight due to stress which led me to a learning process of what it is all about (I blogged about this a little on this site). Understanding that 3500 calories = 1 pound of fat was the epiphany I needed. I began to count…

Yeah I kind of see two groups of people on the forums - those that are looking to lose a total of 10 pounds and those of us that are looking to lose a total of 100+ pounds. I work with a guy that is an avid runner and competes in many events. He has has no need to lose weight, but he still uses a program like this just to…

I don't this of this is a weight loss effort which implies temporary changes in an effort to lose weight. Instead, it is making permanent changes in my life to be healtier with one one side effect being weight loss. Life changes should be dramatic. Life changes are things like divorce, career change, major illness, etc.…

Nothing better than CCR and Eagles!!!

Lost a tire - working on the other three.

What an amazing, life changing accomplishment!

I started recently to use one. I was always afraid to because of a bad knee. But I was surprised at how easy it was on my knee. And I loved it!
-
Yeah I really don't know what I was thinking about 75%. The formula I am using now is below - does this make sense to you? Calories = HR Calories - (BMR / 1440 * exercise minutes)

Ahhh I see. I guess I have been eating two cups all along then cuz 1 cup goes in the pan and I eat all that comes out - doh! Thank you!

My oatmeal box (old fashioned oats) says 300 calories per cup...

One thing we have done is replaced all prepared foods on our grocery lists (such as breakfast bars) with homemade. Why pay someone else to put it together for you and then not know what they put in?

Ok - I am a total geek - here is what I have: BodyBugg Polar FT7 Recumbent bike has a heart monitor and calorie counter Treadmill has a heart monitor and calorie counter EA Sports Active 2 has a heart monitor and calorie counter I have not done any formal comparisons, but find that the FT7 and Bike tend to show the lowest.
-
I use Wii Fit Plus and EA Sports Active along with recumbent bike and treadmill. 15 minutes of step arobics or running on a treadmill with the wii is just as hard as without :)
-
Recumbent stationary bike is great if you have bad knees.
-
When my knee gets too bad I sit on an exercise ball and use resistance tube exercises & WII upper body workouts.

My wife makes our own: 4.5 cups oats 1 cup flour 2/3 cup butter 1/3 cup brown sugar 1/3 cup honey 1/4 cup peanut butter backe 8-12 minutes drizzle with 2 tbsp peanut butter 1.5 tbsp honey makes 40 bars at 105 calories a bar About half the cost of quaker chewy bars

LOL I guess I could post the same question about cardboard.
-
If you have an i-phone, there are several apps that will guide you. For strength training at home, I recommend a balance ball and a set of resistance tubes. Total cost can be $50. Gives you the same benefits at a fraction of the cost, and you can put the tubes in a box, take them with you wherever you go.

So most conservative we could get with a HRM should be Calories = HR Calories - (BMR * .75 / 1440 * exercise minutes) I'm still reading about HRM in general - the blog referenced by JimHeid is good.

Even at the same weight you can get more fit and do the same exercises at a lower heart rate. There is no way to tell any machine how efficient your oxygen transfer rate is becoming. It all just leads me to believe that heart rate alone cannot accurately determine my calories burned. This is a different question than my…

Ok - other web sites are leading me to a lot of questions - as I get more fit, I am able to do the same exercises with a lower heart rate. Does that mean the calories burned is lower?
