  • I didn't have much success with 4HB either. I tried not to go too crazy on the free day, unlike my husband, but in the end I felt I was getting nowhere with it.
  • I feel for you. It's your friends, your social life, and you don't want to cut them out. But they certainly aren't helping you when it comes to your physical health. I guess in the end it just comes to finding strength in your own self and the willpower to just say no. Or to be able to have a couple of wings or one slice…
  • This! lol Hubby knows to tread lightly until I'm well coffee'd. :P But I could see how it would curb cravings if your stomach was always full of liquid, especially if it's containing a lot of cream/creamer, too.
  • My small opinion, but you really don't need to worry about being absolutely perfect for your wedding. You'll be stunning and he will love you no matter what. Relax and don't worry about a few extra pounds. They can come off with a little extra attention to your diet.
  • It's blueberry season here now, and there's a farm right across the road from my husband's office that sells them fresh picked that day. My god they are huge, sweet, and delicious! We buy them by the case at this time of year and freeze a bunch. The blackberries infesting every wild patch around our neighbourhood will be…
  • Cat saliva chemical peel... coming soon to a spa near you!
  • Is Macadamia nut oil still as popular as it was a couple of years ago? I never see anyone mention it here, but it was all anyone talked about in other health forums I've been on.

  • I do it all the time. Makes for a quick and easy dinner after work. I get plenty of carbs in with breakfast and lunch, usually. I steam fresh veggies in the microwave, marinated usually in an oil/vinegar/herb combination. Only takes a couple of minutes.
  • I had a recipe for flaxmeal muffins that I made a lot when I did South Beach.
  • But is the association because of the aspartame itself, or is it generally because of the type of consumer ingesting the diet sodas? I'm talking about the consumer who's already obese, at risk of diabetes, and ordering their Big Mac meal supersized with a Diet Coke.

  • I've been a long time margarine user. Butter here is very expensive, so margarine is the more economical option. Plus they did a good job of scaring us away from the evils of butter all those years ago. Just recently as part of my eating change, I've switched to butter (and started buying it on my grocery trips down to the…
  • Accelerate, break, shift up, shift down, break, honk, accelerate, give finger, break hard, yell out window, brake, shift... Ahhhh rush hour... gets the old ticker pumping.
  • I find having a routine helps, such as always having lunch at the same time every day. I eat my breakfast at my desk as soon as I get in, then I'm usually good until lunch. I generally have a small snack at 4:00 to hold me over until dinner is ready 6:30'ish. And prepping weekday lunches on the weekend is a great habit to…
  • Franks and Tobasco. Costco sized. :D

  • There are a lot of resources on the internet for South Beach. I'd recommend pulling some of the phase 1 and phase 2 food lists to see what is on the do and do-not-eat lists to get an idea of how it compares to your current eating habits.
  • Really hoping the best for your pup!
  • I'd completely quit my daily can of Diet Coke in the spring, switching to sparkling water when I wanted fizz. And then we bought a Sodastream to make our own fizzy water and we of course had to try a few flavours of syrup... So much for quitting pop. lol I have a mix of regular and diet syrups. The regular ones are half…

  • Black with a little Splenda or a SF Torani syrup. My husband has set up a line of Torani bottles with pumps along our kitchen counter. And maybe, just sometimes, a hit of kahlua. :D
  • To me, tea is just hot, leaf-flavoured water. I don't see how that doesn't count as water but cold water filled with fruit does. *shrugs* To each their own.

  • An easy protein is just to dice up any leftovers from dinner (I often cook an extra amount just for this reason) such as steak, chicken, turkey, pork, salmon, etc. You can't go very wrong here. OP said they hate canned fish, but I like it as an inexpensive filler for a salad and split a can for two. Feta cheese Shredded…
  • When work gets so bad stress wise, I'll just leave and do my angry power march to Starbucks. It's far enough that I've burned a little aggression and stress out by the time I'm getting to the doors, and I usually decide I don't really need it after all. And I take a more relaxed stroll back to the office.
  • I find it soaks up flavours nicely, so I make a pot of it plain to add as a filler to all sorts of things. It's great cold in a lettuce salad, or mixed with diced cold vegetables and a little oil and vinegar. I also add to things like tomato soup to make it a lot more filling. Turkey and quinoa meatloaf. Endless…
  • This is part of why I drive an hour to Bellingham, WA, every other week for groceries.
  • I would say that you should google the term "multi-level marketing".
  • Fruit soaked in alcohol... raspberries in Jager, strawberries in wine, watermelon in tequila... infinite possibilites and experiments.
  • I just turned 40 in April. It did bring me down quite a lot, especially when I work with people so much younger. It had me thinking a lot about the things that had passed me by in life and I was now too old to ever do or enjoy. But then the birthday came and went, and somewhere I stopped feeling self consious and depressed…
  • I count things such as tea, coffee, Crystal Light, etc., all as water as they are all still mostly water at their core. Running it through some beans or leaves doesn't magically change that fact. Getting plenty of good old water is definitely important, but in my small and unimportant opinion, you don't need to drink your…
  • Put your shoulders back, lift your chin, look people in the eye, and practice just being confident. As someone who's super shy and introverted, I know it's difficult sometimes to put ourselves out there. But you just do it, and eventually it becomes second nature to put on that face with others.
  • I was well trained to go for the low cal this and low fat that, so it's what I still initially reach for. Though there are things I gave up on quickly such as fat-free sour cream or cream cheese. It was just too awful to eat, and I love my sour cream. I've been slowly breaking the habit of low cal/fat and going for the…
  • We can work off the few extra calories consumed after being polite and having a bite. We can't work off hurt feelings when someone went to the effort of doing something special for us.
