  • These are my 'barefoot' running shoes. Dunlop Volleys. Same design since the 1970s. Will probably graduate to Vibrams eventually, but these are a much cheaper alternative at only $35 a pop. Not sure if you can get them outside Australia though.
  • i agree it sounds like you are eating far too little. You may find your moods actually are much much worse from eating at this kind of amount than if you eat at a small deficit based on what you burn. Since you are obviously comfortable loosing at a slow healthy rate you are probably going to love the 'Eat More to Weight…
  • This. Once heard a nutricionist questioned about what as better sweet potato or white potato. Answer was neither. But have different good nutrients so you are better off have variety in your diet and some of both.
  • Minced ginger About 1 tbs. It will work really well with the other spices you already have in there.
  • Yes i decided about a year ago to never again waste money with a gym membership. I always join and then never go and am stuck in a contract. Especially decided this since in the past all i wanted to do was use the exercise bike, and there were only 2 and my small town gym which were always in use and i'd have to wait for.…
  • Luckily I won't have to wait. I workout at home with my own gear. I hear NROLFW by the time you get to the higher levels takes about 1.5hr too. No matter, the main attraction is i am going to get good use out of my equipment that i've spent the money on.
  • I do. I was doing NROLFW but missed doing squats and was finding the program starting to take quite along time. So i've switched to stronglifts for a while. Only done day 1 of stronglifts but i think i'm going to like it. i have a 50kg weight set (although i think i'm going to have to get a few extra plates now), a…
  • I love it and had a bumper crop of the stuff last summer. But my partner doesn't like it. I found that he didn't even notice it was in my dishes if i pealed and salted it first. Then it just melts into whatever you're cooking and the texture is completely different.

  • Ooooh i totally want some vibrams! I started out in adidas climacools but have recently started now running in my dunlop volleys internationals which are only $30 a pop so darn cheaper than vibrams. http://www.volley.com.au/volley-international.html I think i like them better than my adidas as i can feel the track a bit…
  • I can say it is the same for the person flying in and out too, possibly worse because often not only is camp food horrible tasting but unhealthy too so there is a huge temptation to indulge back at home. That was me for a while, the person FIFOing. I'm afraid the only solution i came up with this was to give up fly in fly…

  • Since you are so unsure of your TDEE. If you can afford one get a fitbit. it will be perfect to telling you your TDEE since most of your activity comes from housework etc.
  • This! Beans are definitely the cheapest food for your buck. You will save a lot of money by having at least 1 vegetarian day a week focusing a lot on beans for protein. Also i suspect things like peanut butter would be cheap for the number of calories in it. I make my own yoghurt to save money using an easiyo yoghurt…
  • I have also heard that the body can't absorbed a large amount of protein in one hit (i think 15g was the amount). But it can if you take it in in lots of different meals and sessions. I don't' really follow this though myself and often have a whole scoop of powder which has 30g in it. So there is that information out there…
  • THIS! There is absolutely nothing wrong with sugar that is in natural foods such as fruit, vegetables and diary. In fact you will be missing out on important nutrients that are also in these foods if you try cutting them out just to cut the sugar number. Ignore sugar numbers and just don't do things like add sugar to…

  • I think we should be happy none of this food is in Australia. It might not be high in calories but it terribly artificial and full of things like transfats and artificial sugars and colours and preservatives etc. But if you really must try i've seen there is some kind of American food online supermarket thing for…
  • Could be the caffeine too. But it probably isn't the main reason you have lost weight. You have probably just replaced chai with something else you used to be drinking or are now drinking more fluids then you were previously so have lost some fluid retention.
  • I'm not an expert by any means but i feel like i now get the logic of this EMTWL thing. Technically i don't think heavy lifting would be necessary. If you are eating at a deficit then unless you've screwed up your metabolism you should be loosing. The reality is though, we have all screwed up our metabolism before we got…
  • I use a milk crate for some exercises. And for deadlifts from a box i use a step i made out of some wood which is a bit stronger but not as high as the milk crate.
  • If you are using a HRM to record your workouts you log it on MFP and make care you put in the start time right. If you do this unless you have done a lot of additional walking around outside of this exercise session you may not get any fitbit adjustment. If your exercise was something like walking or running and you were…
  • 30DS isn't actually meant to be done every day either. JM clears this up in her ripped in 30 DVD and says you absolutely need to take at least 1 maybe even 2 days off a week to rest. So don't feel guilty. I recently over did it and i got sick. I took 3 rest days in a row and now i'm better almost immediately. Overall your…
  • I am doing NROLFW at home and i use resistance bands to do my wide grip pulldowns since i don't that that kind of weight machine that would normally be used for them. Found no problems with them and found that the door attachment was good and didn't leave any marks which i was originally worried about since i rent. I think…
  • I think i've worked out how to use fitbit with EMTWL now after having it for several months. What i do is ALWAYS use fitbit regardless of what any other calculator says (although i use these calculators to work out my BMR). But i use it to work out a weekly activity level overall which accounts for rest days etc. So every…
  • Your teeth will feel better soon, don't worry. I had braces for years. I agree with the above poster, make smoothies using something other than dairy. Maybe throw in some protein powder too. You can even base smoothies off juice if you don't want to use some kind of milk alternative.
  • I'm lucky my fiancé let me get a bench and squat rack to do the NROLFW. I got a foldable one though so it wouldn't take any space when i was using it and squat stands which are much smaller and i keep outside. I do think you could get by without a bench at least for some time in the program. I'm at stage 3 now and i do use…
  • I've got a fitbit and love it. Where it is particularly useful for doing EMTWL is that it gives you a more accurate picture of your TDEE. Every week i look at my average burn for the day (which fitbit can tell me) and then i work out what 15% cut is and check that i'm still on track and that my activity levels are fairly…

  • If alcohol is not part of your life now, then why start now? People talk about it being 'empty calories'. well it is actually worse than that. Alcohol gets prioritised by your body as it sees it as a poison. So it stops burning all the regular food while it gets to work at getting rid of it out of your system. So the…
  • Well you could actually do more than just link to scooby. If you have the technical skills to do it you could put your own calculator on there so nobody would even need to leave the site then. Since i'm assuming you'd still be using the same maths as scooby you could just put a reference to them on it, but then you could…
