  • I've often wondered if so many obese people have better luck with keto/low carb because part of their problem to begin with is that they are insulin resistant or undiagnosed diabetic. CICO alone might not work in those cases because of a personal physiological problem, not because CICO just inherently doesn't work.
  • Look it up as a food! Lots of options there :)
  • You can look it up as a food, and it will subtract calories (and possibly some macros, if I remember correctly).
  • I'm on my fifth pregnancy, and I pretty much just looked chubby (I am to begin with, my weight has gone up and down with pregnancies over the years; I'm here to control weight gain and get back on track once I deliver in February) from the time I walked out of the bedroom :) I am one of those people who puffs up with…
  • I'm pregnant, and during pregnancies I like long series (because I get even more introverted as I get rounder and it feels so good), so I've reread the Game of Thrones series, the Outlander series, and The Lies of Locke Lamora series lately. I'll go back to literary fiction once this baby comes out.
  • I'm so there with you. My extrovert husband from a big family LOVES to have big get togethers. We've settled into a nice routine where we throw big shindigs about 4 times a year, and he's in charge of inviting guests (we move a ton, and I'm always impressed that he can get 40 people together 4 months after a move to a new…
  • I can't speak much to the depression, but my first daughter was stillborn over seven years ago. Those losses really shake you. Something that's helped me (although, with 5 pregnancies since then, not with weight loss) has been to find meaning in our loss of her, if that makes sense. I try to find ways to "parent" her even…
  • Same! Our fifth is due March 8th too! (First was stillborn, so 4th living child) And due to my history, I'll get a c-section at 39 weeks too. I can't work out (also because of my history) so I'm trying to be extra careful with what I eat.
  • You can add me too! I've been here on and off for years, but I'm pregnant with my last (will join my 6, 4, and 1 year olds), so I'm determined to make this stick this time! Due to some cervical issues, I can't exercise during pregnancy and I need a csection, so I'm trying to focus on eating well and not gaining a ton of…
  • Love this, content and style. My husband (the rock to my helium balloon) reminds me whenever I'm worried about failing at anything (marriage, motherhood, writing) that if I only show up every single day, I'll already be in the top 10%, just for being there and getting it done.
  • Good luck! My daughter is 2 weeks today, and I've managed to drop 38 of the 40 I gained (I puff up like crazy with fluid during pregnancy), and then it is onto the weight I gained before this pregnancy. I find that I am starving while breastfeeding, but I have a ton more leeway for calories so I'm trying to take advantage…
  • When I breastfed my last, I added in breastfeeding under food (it was two years ago, but I think there were different options for the age/frequency of baby nursing). I don't think I was eating enough however, because the weight melted off but my supply dipped every time I was more active. I'm 35 weeks pregnant now, and I…
  • My weight has bounced around a good deal the past few years (I'm on my 5th pregnancy since 2010 with a lots of bed rest, plus I started out too heavy) but at about 200 pounds, I lose steadily at 1800, even eating back exercise calories. Right now I'm pregnant, weigh 230, and I'm loosing slowly at 2400, which seems…
  • Feel free to add me, just coming back to this now. I gained a lot of lost weight back before I got pregnant (by not paying attention to what i was eating after surgeries when I was no longer as active), so I'm working very hard not to gain much during pregnancy. I'm 19 weeks and up about 3 pounds. I have an incompetent…
  • Awesome job! My daughter was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis last year (a genetic disorder involving tumors), so I am always excited to hear about people participating in the Undie Run!
  • I'm real, bad at logging lately (and am determined to get back on track after a 2000 mile road trip with my kids next week), and starting to train for a half marathon!
  • I finished it in May, and I just wanted to give encouragement! It might be hard some days, but it feels like such an accomplishment when you pump out those 3.11 miles without walking at the end. Also, it is much easier to add mileage after you get to that point. I am tackling a half marathon training plan next! And no…
  • I went dress shopping three months pregnant and bought several sizes bigger to accommodate what the shop attendant and I thought would be a big pregnant belly, and I made arrangements to have a fitting two weeks before the wedding (which is apparently not the norm...see if you can get special arrangements too). Our…
  • I am (and have been) overweight or obese for most of my life. My husband has not, and it was hard to hear him tell our kids "it's okay to be hungry" until I really internalized it myself. But he is right. Starving is different from hungry. You can tell your daughter: it is okay to be hungry an hour before dinner. You…
  • Would he have fun (and be a little happier about long distances) riding a bike? We got my three year old a balance bike about nine months ago. It took him several months to get the hang of it, but now he loves it. He slows down on it when we're going up hill, but still moves much faster than when he walks. When he rides on…
  • Hmm, I don't think I have ever had that problem, but mine has a handle that sticks out pretty far. We have some walking paths near our house that are pretty even, but I have jogged on the street to avoid the bumps. I wish I had a treadmill at home! (Although I have been enjoying the warm weather this week so far.)
  • Feel free to add me! I have been working on a "30 before 30" mini goal since February. My 30th is in June and I am halfway there. Lots more to go after that, but baby steps :) My strategy so far has been to just focus on food and get into the habit of making better choices and portion control, and I am starting to add…
  • I'm starting on Monday also! Feel free to add me. I'd love to give/get support to keep at it! I've never made it the full 30 days before, but I'm going to tough it out this time. I'm hoping to be working slowly on Couch 25k too, but it might be slow going since I'm going to be training with a double jogging stroller.
  • Hi Nicole! First off, I want to say, get on the scale sooner than later if you can bring yourself to do it. I know from experience that the worse it seems when you start, the more exciting the progress is! Second, keep up the good work at the gym! You are doing exactly what I did years ago (before three pregnancies in four…
  • I'm close to where you are! 5'4" and currently 185. Looks like there are several of us in that range :) Feel free to add me! I'm about 15 pounds down since I started in February (this time around--I started just after my daughter was born in Dec 2012, but got sidetracked) and I've been focusing on portion control more than…
  • Feel free to add me! I am in the same boat--I have struggled with healthy habits for years, and marriage and kids does make it tougher. I have tried MFP half-heartedly before, but I'm trying to make an effort to connect with others to support and encourage so that there is a little more incentive for sticking with it. I am…
  • You can enter "breastfeeding" as a food, and it will add some calories to your daily total. I have heard that breastfeeding requires 500-800 calories a day, but every woman/baby is different. Definitely watch to be sure that your supply isn't being effected and change your calorie goals accordingly! (Also, protein and good…
  • I am still pretty new at this, but I try to treat myself on the weekends, but plan for it. We might have a big breakfast, so I'll make sure I have soup for lunch. Or I know we're going out to dinner where I'll probably splurge, so I try to cut back on what I'd normally eat earlier. I am trying to make changes that I can…
  • I get you. I'm also trying to take baby steps I can live with. And good for you for not considering that sweet potato day a failure--it was still an improvement over where you were. My diary is open to friends. Feel free to add me :)
  • As a former teacher, now SAHM, I asked questions just like the OP. Now that I am a mom, it is much easier to accept that parenting is much harder than it looks, and we all do things that we couldn't understand as just an observer of parenting. (So much cosleeping!) That being said, I cook what I cook. If the kids are…
