^^^well put. People have no idea how much strength it takes to run long distance. The notion that runners lack strength is nonsense.
-
I use the strength routine from "Brain Training for Runners". Over the winter, I plan on doing something stronglifts for a few months.

I recently ran a 20 mile race with a much faster) friend, who was wearing Vibrams. Different strokes and all... I have run a marathon in Virrata's. as well as many training runs over 6 miles, with no ill effects.

I didn't read the whole thread, so I am sorry if this has already been covered, but this article explains it all perfectly for me: http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2010/11/how-calorie-measurement-works-on-garmin.html Comparing heart rates is a completely pointless exercise. We all have very individual max heart rates. Generally,…

I run 90 percent of my workouts in Virrata's (I have 4 pair and will be adding a couple more.) Pros - light, slight over-pronation support, cushioned (but not overly so), sockless is no problem Cons - soles are soft and prone to wearing out fast I haven't run in kinvara's, so I am no help there.

learn how to put your sit bones in the right place...that's the key to being comfortable

I would leave your account the way it is. And, I would be mindful of the fact that losing weight and training for a marathon are really tough to do at the same time. Be patient and realize there will be points where things will not go the way you want to. I have been stuck at the same weight for a while, but have received…

Weight loss has everything to do with how much food you cram into your pie hole and nothing to do with how many miles your run. Run for your health and your mind. Maintain a calorie deficit to lose weight

dcrainmaker.com is your friend in this one. I have garmin 310xt (and a 901xt, as well) and they both are pretty awesome. Garmin can be a bit frustrating to work with at times. I cringe every time they "update" their software, but overall i am happy with them.

Cox Marathon, Providence, RI - 4:13:29 Just an awesome experience for my first! I had a slight injury for the last four weeks of training, so I couldn't peak properly. Considering that, I am happy with the result.

I fast for a week prior to an important race, after tapering down from my usual two cups a day. It works like a champ and it's just a week. The cup of coffee that starts off race day is just awesome!

I have a pair of altras, one cushy and one minimal. The cushy pair I don't like at all, but they are roomy up front. The minimal pair is also pretty roomy and I do like that pair. If you are looking for room, you might want to look into Mizuno's, as well. They have plenty of room in the toe and fit nice and snug on the…

If this is true, and it seems like it is, I just don't understand the value of doing it. The whole thing is a lie. Can that possibly be fun? Sooner or late, everybody gets exactly what they deserve (good and bad). Karma never takes day off. I actually pity these people.

We are in exactly the same boat, Pete, except I one age group ahead. The secret for us to get older, I think! haha! I am going to run one a year and I have a very long term view of things. I will do it, even if it takes me 15 or 20 years. At 47, I think it is pretty realistic to say that at some point in my early 50's,…

I use aquafor for my man area. I am afraid it will stain shirts, as I know vaseline does. Body glide washes out with no problem. I have a grey shirt which has two dark spots from the vaseline. To be honest, I have not tried the aquafor on my chest. I also smear some aquafor around nostrils and upper lip for winter runs. It…

No shirt or body glide. I turn on the hot water in my sink, put the body glide under it for a sec to warm it up and smear away. I cover a good 6 to 8 inch area around them and am usually good to go. Softer shirts help too. Some of the Nike dri-fit shirts are really easy on the chest.

no age group glory for me! I am 47 and I can't get over how fast the men in my group run.. so, I am usually just chasing pr's. And to be honest, I care more about executing the plan and enjoying myself more than anything. If it's my day, then that's great. If not, there's always the next one.
-
yes they do...please send them to me, and I will take care of them for you :o)

the devil is in the details ;o)

I had mine resized after it fell off during a run. I am not planning on ever being the weight I was, so I figured, why wait?

sigh, my reference was to the general mockery in this thread, which is EXACTLY why pf exists in the first place. I am not saying they are going about it the correct way, because they aren't. But, there is a reason it works and why they are all over the place. It's crappy attitudes about what constitutes "real" working out.…
-
Yeah, couldn't resist..haven't waded into a pf thread in a while. Good thing there isn't any mockery of the kind of folks who use pf. That wouldn't be too cool. ah well, round and round.......
-
that's pretty much my response...I love how the bro's and bro'ettes have their feelings so hurt about the place. I have moved on to a Y (for the pool), but I used PF for a couple years. It suited my needs.
