Judging by what comes across my feed every day, I think a lot of high-mileage runners do that.

I think that foot strike is borderline meaningless. As someone mentioned above, what counts is where the foot swinging forward touches the ground in relation to your body. The foot should land somewhere close to under your hips and actually already be moving slightly backward. What part of the foot contacts the ground at…

I use a different plan, but when I go to the next race, I just start at the beginning mileage. It helps me to reduce overall volume and ramp things back up again over time.

just don't... enjoy yourself...I went with the intention of tracking, but gave it up on the first day. The internet charges were crazy..

edit: btw, this in not a swipe at this particular forum..there is just more of a critical mass there...

you might want to post this over at slowtwitch.com...

damn bro! I'll cut it down to two for today...

didn't we just do this a few weeks ago? I had 3 yesterday.

I got a kick out of her facial expressions!

great report!

in for the perspective.. I am running a half as part of my scheduled 15 miles this weekend and I was planning on using the approach Carson talked about..just ease into it and see how I feel as i go along. I would like to put in a stronger than normal effort, but not necessarily a race effort. I am a little worried about…

This exactly what I do, except I have a bagel with pb, instead of toast. For Sunday long runs, I'll bring along a few gels for runs over about 2 or so hours. At my pace, that's about 15 miles. I don't run LSD, and I am on deficit, calorie-wise, so it's always a fine line when the time on the road gets longer. There may be…

My comment on FB was to imagine if a guy did that! I thought it was pretty funny, though.

I have not used it, but I also think the programs provided in the Brain Training for Runners book are really well thought out.

this is a pretty good survey: http://fellrnr.com/wiki/A_Comparison_of_Marathon_Training_Plans imho, there is no right answer for this...

Personally, I think it's nonsense to suggest certain foods lend themselves to higher body fat. I think the op should just keep trying to maintain a deficit, keep working out, and it will sort itself out over time. The line to success is never a straight one. If you are running, doing some strength work, etc., you'll be…

+1 on the beta alanine.. I don't use much in the way of supplements these days, but that is a side effect I remember well. I couldn't stand it!

great response...I don't think I could run outside WITH music. It would be too distracting. I do use them on a TM, though. I love the sounds of a race..the breath, the footsteps. It's really cool to be in a big group of people working that hard. The primary reason races discourage or disallow them is safety, I would think.

True that!

new trainer time...protein hype is so 5 years ago. The 40 30 30 mentioned above is much more reasonable.

+1 on the swim smooth site. I am absolutely stunned how much it takes out of me, and I am in reasonable shape. I have been doing it for 30 minutes, 3x a week, with the hopes of doing some triathlon racing down the road. i am treating it like establishing a base for running. slow and easy, focusing on technique. I also plan…

this is exactly how I handle my macros...also, I don't obsess too much about hitting them perfectly all the time. Imho, macros are kind of an individual thing and are probably a little less important than we make them out to be. good luck!

couldn't agree more!

I mostly lay on my floor and feel like dying oh...and I consume some carbs and protein at a roughly 4 to 1 ratio :o) all kidding aside, I guess I do a little stretching and not much else. I love stretching and tend to do more on days of less mileage or on cross training days. But, truthfully, after a Sunday long run, I am…

Cross training usually means something cardio. In my program it means something non-weight bearing i.e. cycling, swimming or rowing. Not sure about Higdon's program. He may be referring to strength training as cross training. I have been swimming on Mondays, which is the day after long run for me. If you are looking for…

It's a smaller crew that "knows" each other a little better, so it will probably be a bit more civil, or not...I am filing this one under "if you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all" :o)

The most useful books for me have been: Run Less, Run faster (FIRST running program), New Rules for Marathon Nutrition and Brain Training for Running Honorable mention goes to Running Technique, Running Lore and Tread Lightly My favorite non-instructional books are The Perfect Mile and Duel in the Sun yeah...I am a bit of…

I use the website version, not the app. Sorry for the confusion.
