Thanks for sharing @Beka3695 My reverse transformation has been between 2011 when I weighed 58kgs (127lbs) and had 18% body fat to this year, twice the weight, got to 119.5 kgs (264lbs), 49% body fat. Some wake up moments: * Going to an old style movie cinema, with the red velvet, which have much narrower seats than the…

Steps 2/25 7461 2/26 9266 I'm happy to continue with steps. There are days when it has gotten to 7pm in the evening, and I haven't been outside all day, and I go "I have to go for a walk, get steps!", and you can see my steps have increased week to week with this challenge.

I'm curious: do you know what % of the carbs from the potato become resistant starch from this process, versus what % remain carbs?
-
Depends on the person. Interestingly I saw a BBC doco last night called The Truth About Carbs and they showed a quick test anyone can do to see if they are the type of person who can eat loads of carbs, should minimise them, or eat in moderation: Time this: Chew a plain unsalted unsweetened cracker (don’t swallow). If it…

Is it that you are unable to lose weight at all, or not losing as fast as you'd like? Have you lost inches instead? A couple things to consider I can think of: 1) Research has shown that when people exercise, they feel hungrier, and often eat more than they burn. This means even if you are exercising 6 days a week and…

I think you need to give yourself a bit of a break, don’t compare yourself to others. There are so many things that can affect weight - water, muscle, hormones, sleep, stress, etc. If you know you are eating right and getting exercise, be confident you are doing the right thing for your body! 7.2lbs loss in a month is…

Wow! Awesome work, you’ve really pulled the team along!

If you are losing inches, I wouldn't worry so much about the weight. Weight can relate to your monthly cycle, excess water, muscle (which can also take up water), etc. Sounds like you are on track so keep doing what you are doing. If you don't have a weight drop in another 2-4 weeks, and no signs of losing inches, do the…

Book in to have a health check-up with your doctor; they should run some blood tests to see if you have any medical conditions or nutrient deficiencies that could be affecting your weight. I'm looking to lose over 100lbs too. I found out I am insulin resistant; have been put on medication & recommended a low-carb/keto…

Hope it's okay, I'm joining a little late. Starting weight: 119.5 kg/264lbs ( 27 January 2019) Goal weight: 65kgs /143lbs Current weight: 112kgs / 247 lbs (25 Feb 2019) Total weight lost: 7.5kg /16lbs This week's successes: Exercised every day - even went walking in the rain when I really didn't feel like it. This week's…

If what you have been eating so far has been working for you, why not stick with it? What is it about your current diet that worries you? There are many different diet philosophies, that preach different things, and it's a matter of sorting out what works for you. Traditionally the health sector thought a diet high in…

@Beka3695 I was having a sticky beak at the February spreadsheet, and noticed that the week 1 steps recorded for me are inaccurate (and have gaps). Possibly this is the record from the person who initially put their hand up for that week? I don't know how the rules work, but if you want the accurate steps for Week 1, they…

I think it's different in Australia; we have a culture in the medical profession that often ignores the importance of vitamins, minerals, probiotics, etc so I specifically picked a GP who is a bit more holistic. And I've never met a Naturopath who was a whackjob; those that come recommended by GP's know their stuff and are…

Yes, I think I will have to look into it. The news of insulin resistance took a bit of processing, so I didn't think to ask my GP for this while I was in the appointment. She did suggest I check out a particular keto eating program, and gave me the name of a Naturapath she respects who is a practitioner of the program, but…

That's good to know that it can be done on that ratio (35% :35%: 30%), under 150g carb a day

My BMI is over 40, I have a fairly sedentary life nowdays (am an at-home parent and my daughter is doing distance education for medical reasons, which I have to supervise, so there have been many days when I haven't even left the house). Started the diet four weeks ago and have been working to get some exercise in daily…

I quite like my bioimpedance scale. It may not be as accurate as a DEXA scan, but it helps on those days where your weight flatlines or goes up and you can see the % of water has increased - water retention, rather than true weight gain. Use it for long enough and you'll see the general trendline and not get so worried…

Yep, Australia - from the future in timezone only 😀. Don’t worry, some adjustment needed on my part too (trading kgs for lbs and writing the date with the month before the day 2/23 instead of 23/2 as we do it, etc).

As we near the end of the month, I was wondering how people are going in meeting their goals? My progress so far:* I've exercised 17 days out of 23, and for this final week am doubling down on the "every day" goal. This is a huge improvement on where I was in January. * I've stuck to my diet 22 days of 23. Only went off my…

I would add, if your linked app is something like MapMyRun: When MapMyRun says you've burned say 200 calories for an activity, it's calculation includes all energy you've burned during that time, including the BMR (basal metabolic rate) portion that you would have burned to run your body even if you were lying in bed all…

@boehle My steps for this week (so far): 2/17 399 (Day at home recovering from previous day of kayaking, probably also put my phone down which records my steps) 2/18 10902 2/19 10295 2/20 9338 This week will be my biggest week as I have decided to prioritise walking over other exercise, going for a walk every day, rain or…

VLCD diets (of around 800 calories per day) ensure all nutrients are covered between their products (shakes, bars, soups, etc) and the 2+ cups of low-calorie/non-starchy vegetables that are eaten in addition to the products, & may also include a little oil (to prevent gallstones). Will also tell you to drink 2 litres of…

Oyster sauce - goes with stir fry’s, Chinese dumplings, or sometimes I’ll water it down and pour over steamed vegetables. fresh lemon or lime juice - tastes good on chicken, lamb, raw or steamed vegetables Italian herb mix - my go to when making spaghetti bolognaise, lasagna, soup etc Am currently experimenting with Sumac.…

Hasn’t happened to me, I have a mild keto diet, in 2011 I lost 27kg (about 60lbs) in 29 weeks, I don’t recall any effect on my period. I’d recommend talking to your doctor, it may or may not be connected to your diet or another health concern that is worth checking out.

Did you read the whole conversation thread? There is no evidence that speed of fat loss has an affect on muscle mass; to preserve muscle mass you simply need to ensure you eat enough protein and do enough resistance/strength training for existing muscle.

I think you are also #missing a point, as you make a different point. All three of those photos she looks to be at a healthy weight & body composition. There is no need for all women to aspire to look like photo number 3, with the extra 18lbs muscle. Great that she is happy with her body, and can eat more, but that doesn't…
