  • I always thought the "women hate women" thing was untrue, or at least a dramatic over-exaggeration, until I lost weight. Not so much with people I know, but with strangers and passerbys.
  • It sounds like it would be a similar inconvenience to the hand sensors. It probably only takes 20 seconds or so of not moving to take a good HR reading (it just feels like forever in the middle of a workout!). At least you would be able to be outside?
  • I have a $20 Xiaomi Mi band 2. It works great for movement and sleep tracking. It also has HR, but you have to stop what you're doing and hold your arm steady to take readings; and by then, my HR has gone down. As far as I know, this is true for all wrist HR devices. When I'm moving too much, its often off by ~2-fold, so…
  • My dad had this done 2 months ago on one of his knees. All I know is it wasn't covered by his insurance and now he's drinking some $100-a-bottle collagen concoction from the doctor. I hope it works. Last time I saw him, he was still healing and moving slow.
  • After the pushup, could you walk your feet in to your hands instead of jumping? And then come out of the bottom in a squat, maintaining neutral spine. It sounds like its curving your lower back (especially quickly) that's problematic. Of course, there's no need to do burpees specifically, but it depends what you want to…
  • I dunno, coming into a thread asking for advice about a food only to call it 'nasty AF' seems pretty passionate. *Shrug*
  • I don't understand the hate either. I don't notice a huge difference from beef tastewise, but I pretty much only ever make chili or unstuffed cabbage roll soup. Occasionally, I'll mix with beef to make meatloaf or meatballs. I actually made turkey chili yesterday. It was delicious.
  • I've never gotten perishables online. I'll have to look into meat. Seems like it'd be more expensive or maybe you'd need an extra freezer? I find that dried bulk foods are usually cheaper online, oatmeal, quinoa. I buy canned foods sometimes. Any obscure or specialty health/fitness food is priced crazy high at the grocery…
  • I suck so much at planks and all its variations, but spiderman pushups are the absolute worst. I used to prescribe to the idea that compound lifts were enough core work, but my sitting posture is piss poor and I'm hoping more core stuff will help. So now I'm doing things I've avoided for so long and I feel it!
  • I have generic 1" adjustable dumbbells. You can buy handles and 1" plates separately, but they're most often sold as a 40lb set, which is likely fine to start with. In my area, they pop up on craigslist quite often. You can always buy more plates when you're ready, or better yet, snatch up another craigslist set!…
  • I've always made mine with garnet yam and black beans. It's been awhile though. I mix them together in the blender to annihilate the bean-y texture.
  • Looks yummy, but what's the difference between: And no sweetener in the base? Is one of those supposed to be sweetener of some kind?
  • When I had this, it was from a combo of running and sitting for long periods of time. It gave me tight hip flexors. Hip flexor stretches, better sitting posture, and making a point of getting up throughout the day helped a lot.
  • Yeah, I just accepted that losing was not in the cards for me at the time. It was not an easy thing to accept, either. So, I started doing the whole reverse dieting thing, just gradually upping calories. I did gain at first (that was rough), but it seems stable now, and I'm eating MUCH more than I was when "maintaining"…
  • Dunno if this helps, but I went through a ~7 month period of amenorrhea at the end of last year that just got more and more symptomatic over time. I've always weight trained 4-5x/week. I was trying (unsuccessfully) to lose weight. I'm also not super lean, likely higher BF than you are. First 4 months, started out with just…
  • I'd like to see the attention you get just going to town on the whole daikon. Do you not dress it with something? I've only had it pickled.
  • I eat moderate amounts of everything, but do not enjoy and do not want super greasy or super sweet things anymore. Fried chicken, fudge, that sort of thing. Kind of sucks because I used to make french macarons, which have tons of sugar by necessity, but they make me a little ill now! Still appreciated by family and friends…
  • I have the same! Bout an inch or two behind my right ear. Just one bump, completely hidden by my hair, but its super painful and feels as big as a ping pong ball when its bad.
  • plus hair loss, poor nails and skin, lack of energy to perform daily functions, higher susceptibility to illness, and poor recovery from injury.
  • I've taken month breaks here and there for those same reasons. I tend to get obsessive and its a nice psychological break. A couple times, I've just logged my main protein sources just to keep tabs on my protein goals since I often fall short.
  • I'm also pear-shaped, so don't really store a lot of fat in my stomach. BMI is 24. I'm ~137lbs and 5'3". Obliques are visible while relaxed and there's something going on in the middle, but I dunno if I'd call them abs. You can see in my pic that the ab crack (had to google that) doesn't go down very far. I have this…
  • I was curious and google led me here: http://www.somastruct.com/stretching-a-form-of-strengthening/ I'm not familiar with the author, but its well-researched. Apparently, static stretches and resistance training are similar in that they produce tension on the muscle, which signals hypertrophy. Resistance training improving…
  • So what does stretching do, particularly deep/"heavy?" stretching? I'm guilty of neglecting stretches after strength workouts. I'll do dynamic stretching beforehand; arm circles, leg swings, that sort of thing, but I thought that was more to get blood flowing. I usually static stretch after cardio cause it feels great. It…
  • I have a basement gym I probably spent <$300 on. Barbell set, squat stands, bench, and flooring. If the ceiling was higher, I'd spring for a power rack. Its dark, cold, cramped, and I love it so much I'm there everyday.
  • +1 for preworkout poop. And caffeine. Actually, its caffeine then poop. They're connected.
  • I'm the same. Work out alone and don't really feel the need to talk about it. But its interesting you feel resentment towards people just for mentioning it. I think I get it. Maybe a big talker appears ego-driven (rather than personally goal-driven), which can be kinda off-putting? Sometimes people are just big sharers…
  • Pomegranate. I would say mangosteen, but that might just be a case of wanting what I can't have. :(
  • Honestly, I like being able to move big weights for low reps, but as for enjoyment during? I get nervous doing DLs and squats cause of a previous injury, I feel like I should be getting stronger faster, plus I get antsy during longer rest periods. I prefer circuit-style workouts. The fatigue is so satisfying! Heavy lifting…
  • barbell set, bench, squat stands, and foam flooring
